Last Spring I was upset because we were going to miss the Rivers of Light that was going to be opening at AKP. Oh well, I figured we would catch it on our next trip.

So, I am in trip planning mode now and I checked on the status of booking a dinner pkg. so we can get the best seating possible for ROL and it still has not opened!

Can't Disney give us an idea of when it will be open? The last update I saw wasin Oct..

TC :cool1:

Disney has not given any updates about when it would be opening past when they closed it.
Well technically never opened other than a teeny preview.
No one can tell you anything other than 100% rumor.
But, hey, sounds like you haven't been on boards for awhile so at least you didn't get excited ...
... every time someone posted an opening time frame or soft opening time frame .....
... only to find out they were not true.

Just keep your eyes/ears open for an official Disney announcement and hope it's good this time.

I don't consider 4 CM previews one of which Bob Iger was at as "teeny".

I'm totally expecting it to be cancelled. I don't think there'll ever be a permanent nighttime show at AK. I'd like it if they proved me wrong but I'm not expecting it at this point. We don't expect to go to AK anytime soon

When I say "wrong," I mean "it didn't open." In Project Management, that's a missed milestone.

They are not going to say boo until they are confident.
I'm fairly certain it was Disney PR not communicating with project management as to why they missed the announced date. You might be surprised (or maybe not) but Disney has communication problems.

I am so not surprised.

I suspect heads rolled. Or will. I consulted on a project recently where we have now seen three project heads be fired in 18 months. All over milestones missed and budgets completely hosed.

@rteetz in your opinion could the cast member previews have also been a way to get feedback on if it was any good or anything that still needs attention?

I vaguely remember hearing someone say it was technologically great but a somewhat boring show compared to world of color for example. I'm just curious how true that was and in your opinion do you think it might have prompted some it's not ready for debut improvements?

I personally would say jingle bam and junglebook were let downs and it's starting to be a pattern on new shows.

Definitely they used the CM previews to get feedback. Many of the reviews did say it was technologically great but lacked in story. From preview 1 to preview 4 they already saw changes and improvements.

Yes, there will be a nighttime show. They built a huge amphitheater. Keeping that permanently empty is not an option.

Disney's Animal Kingdom is a beautiful theme park with unique experiences and top-notch live entertainment. It saddens me to think that anyone would avoid this park simply because Rivers of Light hasn't opened.

Didn't Disney officially say "2017"?

That's what I thought. Wasn't there a release a couple of weeks ago that stated something to the effect that ROL would open in Summer 2017 concurrent with Pandora???

Nah. They aren't even attaching season to the 2017 at this point. They were burned last year.

Like I said, this kind of missed milestone leads to rolling heads in many companies.

Yes, but they only said 2017 and not a time frame. I wouldn't be surprised if some elements may not work in colder weather so they are deciding to wait until feb. I know the bridge by dinoland/dino dig you get wet from the water screens if the wind is blowing that way. This way it's not a "check this out, oh we're closed for weather now"

About the only thing we do at Animal Kingdom is Festival of the Lion King and maybe eat at Flametree. Just our opinion of the park and glad others do enjoy it.

No they just said 2017 so it could open as soon as January or as late as December...
