They are 9 & 10. DH won't be able to join us because he will away on business. I am seriously considering hopping the Metro tomorrow afternoon and taking them down to be a part of the history. What do you think?

I think that is a wonderful thing! I wish I could take my girls up there, too!

One of the managers at work is flying down to DC for it. He is a big fan...even named his dd after him. I think it will be very crowded, but if I had the opportunity I would go.

I would go if I had the chance.

You talked me into it. I think that I will pick the boys up from school by noon & head down. Hope I can find parking at the Metro station.

Dan, come on down. You should have no trouble getting here by noon - it's over 12 hours from now.

Will pack water bottles, sunscreen & an extra dose of patience - for the crowds.

DH will work all day tomorrow, drive to DC (3.5-4 hours), stand in line for who knows how long, walk through to pay his respects, and drive back here just in time for work Thursday morning....all in his dress uniform. Just feels it's something he needs to do since he is able. It won't be easy, but he is able. So yes, I think it's a great idea for you to take them! Hopping the metro will be LOTS easier and a lovely thing to do to show your sons a piece of history and teach them how to pay proper respects to a former president. Hope the crowds aren't too unmanageable when you're there....

I would give anything to be able to go and see the procession. By all means take your children. I remember when Nixon resigned. I wanted to do something else but my parents made me watch the speech and him leave the white House. Now I am so glad that I did. You're children may not realize now what they are seeing but years later they will be so glad they had that oportunity. Go and represent all your friends here on the DIS.

what an moment in History they will experience. Good luck with the crowds.

Yes, if DH and I lived closer we'd go. But we already have a 4 hour drive scheduled this week, and there's no way in heck I'd do 4 hrs up and then home. Especially since i'm sure there no hotel rooms to be had the DC area today.
But yeah, this is an amazing moment in history. If i still lived in Philly i would have been closer and gone to see to see. But along with the water i reccommend taking lots of entertainment for you and the boys.

Good luck and let us know what it was like.

If you are that close..GO and pay your respects

I say if you don't mind the crowds, then do it. It will be a part of history, and a very worthwhile experience. I myself, would love to go, but I don't think my 4 year old will do well. It will be boring for her. Still thinking about it though!

We did go to DC yesterday to witness the procession of Pres. Reagan's casket along Constitution Ave. It was a long hot afternoon but well worth the trip. I am glad we did it. I will write a mini trip report & post it soon.

I look forward to reading it. I would also think tohave the boys write up some of their thoughts about teh event, that way they have something to go back to when they are older. So glad you took them, I would have taken my oldest.
