Seriously - Are you happy where you live?

Nope. Hate our apartment, hate the winter, hate the humidity in the summer. But, my SO & I have good jobs, so we make the best of it. He hates the heat, I hate the cold. I have a theory that he hates the heat because he has never experienced a dry heat. I grew up in So.Cal., he grew up in the South.

I think it will be better once we move out of this crap-hole of an apartment and into our own place. I'm looking forward to the peace and quiet of the suburbs.

I had always planned on moving out of town. I want to have some space around me, I hate living so close to neighbors. But now that I'm alone, I really like the convenience of being close to family and the stores, and everything else. I don't like my house, never have, but it looks like I'll not be moving any time soon.
It's past time to make this house into something I like.

We have just moved from the North shore of Boston to the South Shore, I live in a small community on Cape Cod. In the winter, it is blissfully quiet, but in the summer, it is a wild and crazy place. I do like it here, I also love being so close to Boston. Actually I would love it more if the "Big Dig" was over, but it just keeps going on and on.

Yes and no. I like the size of Baton Rouge...not too big, not too small. It's close to my family (ALL of our family lives about an hour away in a small town south of here...we're the weird ones for moving to "the city" ;)). But it is far enough away that our parents can't visit everyday and bug us...especially important now that we have DS. ;) LOVE LSU and going to the games! Love the south in general...I could NEVER make it up north with those winters!!

The downside is that La is pretty much at the bottom of all the good lists and at the top of the bad lists. The school system here is just awful..we would have no choice but to send DS to private school. DH is a soon-to-be music teacher and the pay is awful, not to mention the music department gets little, if any, respect. :( Once DH graduates, we'll probably move.

Notice I say I live right outside D.C. because I hate the fact that I live in Maryland. What was I thinking when I fell in love with my husband and said I would move across the Potomac. To outsiders the metro area is just one big place but NO. Northrn Virginia is a much better, friendly, kinder place to live. I love the metro area but I would be so much happier to be back in the promised land. ;)

very much so....we live in a town of 3,000. It's a town made up of 2 villages, and then the outlying area...we live in 1 of the villages, 1 stop light...though it's really not 'small' as we have 2 elementary schools.

I work for the town, and I grew up here so its perfect for me. DH grew up in CT, moved up here at age 16 to get away from the rising crime in New Haven, and his family is all here as well. My mom is 1 of 9, and 3 of the 9 are not here...family is all within 1/2 hour of us. except those 3.

I'm still the best of girlfriends with my 'clique' from highschool, our kids are now best buddies.

We are moving sometime in the near future, as I do not want my DD's at this middle school which is 'black listed' and has refused NCLB act funding because it cant get back 'online' quick enough...we will be moving about 1/2 hour away- to NH, where Dh's store is, and to a city that was named one of the top 5 to raise a family last 5 years or so.

I have no desire to move farther away that 1/2 hour 45 minutes..we're too close to all of our family and friends to do that.

and winters do not bother me, as we're skiers, and have snowmobiles.

Great question, Beauty.

I love our neighborhood. Good neighbors. Love the schools. I have 2 teenagers that are SO enjoying their high school experiences!

We are in suburban Philly but so close that we can see Center City from certain points. Love the proximity to the arts, culture and professional sports for DH and DS.

The downside like so many others have said....I am beginning to hate Winter. Cold and Wind = NO GOOD. It's gonna SNOW tonight. I'm tired of it.

We live in NJ in the suburbs of NYC and love it, LOVE it! The housing prices are insane, but we have the city(which we never go to, but I like knowing it's there if we wnated too), the shore and the mountains at the most a couple of hours away. There is nowhere else we'd ever want to live.

Wow...everyone hates the cold. we did too.
Thanks to my parents moving here...we did too. Phoenix is wonderful :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

I love living here. The heat just isn't that bad. It is beautiful here. The desert has mountains, sagauro cactus, lakes, and 4 hours north is the Grand Canyon and ski resorts. Arizona is really a pretty state.
there is so much to do here. Great shopping, restaurants, concerts, outdoor activities, etc. and its always nice. This was one of the colder winters I have been here. low 60's daytime and 40's at night. yeah yeah I know...poor us.

anyway...yes I love where I live !!!

I love where I live.

South Carolina - Smiling Faces, Beautiful Places

and

Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina
In the mooooorrrrrn-***
Nothing could be sweeter than my sweetie when I meet her in the mooorrn-***
Where the morning glories twine around the door
Whispering pretty stories
I'd like to hear once more
da da dum.......

I could go on, but I won't - that's a song that they play everyday on the radio here. Our little Southern town is so small-townish that we have had the same radio show going for at least 40 plus years and they play that song everyday. Our town is so small-townish that if you die they read your obituary on the air at 11:55 a.m. while playing a somber hymn in the background. At 6:15 a.m., 12:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. you can call the radio station and go live on the air if you have an item to sell, a lost dog, etc. Every Friday night in the fall, thousands turn out for the high school football game. We never lock our doors. If someone accidentally locks the door we say "oh my gosh - who locked the house??" "Why'd you lock the house?" Our newspaper only comes out on Monday-Wednesday-Friday. Then a rival newspaper started a Tuesday - Thursday newspaper!!! So now we are a two newspaper town!! Our town has really grown, but many old traditions remain. If a funeral procession passes, all traffic ceases to move to honor the dead. I don't think they do that everywhere because a lot of out-of-towners have commented on it like we're a bunch of hicks. But there's no place I'd rather be - South Carolina.

If you are why?

I sincerely live in Idiotville U.S.A. My entire town is run and inhabited by idiots, people killing each other, shooting through houses, arsonists, gangmembers, idiots! I hate it here!!

We are moving in a little over a year when my mother (who DH and I would never leave her alone or we would have been gone!) retires and I'm just curious as to how many people are actually happy with where they live. If you are what state do you live in??

We are seriously considering Orlando (of course) but we have also looking into Virginia or New York State. We have even considered Oregon.

Hello from one of your candidates, Oregon.

I grew up in San Jose, CA. Very nice community. Turned into a very EXPENSIVE and CROWDED community. So, I moved to Portland, OR in 1995. And you know what? I LOVE IT! I will give you my pro & con list about Oregon.
Con: 1. A tad too rainy. Once or twice a year I get very sick of the rain and gray. But we have such lush, green hillsides year round that it's worth it.
2. A bit too liberal, but we live in one of the more conservative counties, so it's not too bad. Perfect city for you if you are a liberal but with libertarian leanings.

That's it for my cons.

Pro's: Affordable housing, esp compared to San Jose LOL!
No sales tax! Even better- move to Vancouver, WA (right across the river from Portland) and there is no state income tax in WA; drive across the river to do your shopping and you have the best of both worlds!
Friendly people!
Beautiful summers!
Just enough winter so you feel like you had some snowy magic, but then it usually melts away the next day so you don't have the drudgery of dealing with snow.
Lots of great recreation- skiing, boating, hiking, biking, fishing etc. The beach is about 80 minutes away, closer if you live more in the west suburbs of Portland. Mount Hood is about 60-80 minutes away.

I just really like it here. More down to earth than where I grew up, yet I don't feel like I moved somewhere completely different.

While Alaska is beautiful it sucks being landlocked. :( To fly to Seattle for one person we're looking @ $400+ with 2 weeks notice. Forget anywhere else like CA.

We want to move. CO is our first choice. I would LOVE to live in Maine or CT.... :D We're doing a 4 week road trip to scout out where we want to move, but frankly if someone offered D a job we'd be out of here tomorrow. :/

I like the weather of it being nice and sunny here all year long, but there are times that I would like to move. Living here does get pricey, I would like to go to a place where there are more things to do-especially during the late evenings, and where I can go on road trips.
That's why we have to leave here from time to time and adventure to other countries or to the mainland.

I live in Las Vegas and nope, I'm not satisfied with where I live either! Right now the weather is fabulous! 80 degrees, ,not humid. Unfortunately, spring only lasts about 3 weeks here and then it is hot for the next 6 months. I hate the heat! I would be able to deal with that if it were at least PRETTY here, but it's not. There are good things about Vegas, but we would move in a heartbeat if DH were offered a job somewhere else that paid as much as here. We would love to live in Virginia or Pennsylvania. I envy those who are happy with where they live. I think if I chose a place I liked and then moved there, I would be happy too!

I love Chicago. I love the museums, the theater, the nightlife and the skyline. I can't help but look up from my book every morning on the train to catch a glimpse of the Sears Tower. :) Plus Midwesterners are such nice people.
I lived in San Diego for 5 years and I loved living by the ocean but in all the time I lived in the same condo, I only talked to two of my neighbors and one was from Wisconsin and the other Indiana. People seem to keep to themselves there.

I've always been drawn to the ocean though and maybe later in life I will move to South Carolina or something to be on the coast.

It's ok... I live in a suburb of Baltimore, MD. Since we are near a major city and close to DC, it's very expensive to live here. You don't get much (house wise) for your money.

I do like the fact that I'm just a few hours from the beach in one direction and the mountains in the other direction.

However, the older I get the more I long to live in a warmer climate year round. I think SC might be nice.
We are similarly situated - only a bit further west. We are an hour from either Baltimore or Washington - and are surrounded by Civil War history.

DH & I would love to go somewhere warmer. We will stay put until the boys graduate high school - they are only in 3rd & 4th grade now.

Panama City Beach Florida here, since the summer of 2002.
Nope. I don't like it here at all. I love my home, but when I leave the driveway... well, it all goes downhill from there. Tacky, trashy, rude, etc., etc....

Well, yes and no. I love our house, our neighborhood is nice and DD's eventual elementary school is good. I am not thrilled about the middle school but we can deal with that when the time comes. We have some family around and that is good and bad! :p My aunt and uncle are wonderful as are DH's brothers and sister. DD loves having her cousins around, too. Don't ask me about DDad's wife tho  and she makes life difficult for everyone. My DSis is in Denver, much too far away, and I miss her a lot (DD and I are going to visit next week :teeth: )

But - and it is a big but - (hmm, I am not sure that came out right!) I hate, hate, hate the weather! Grey, cold and rainy/snowy for six months of the year. I am so sick of it I could scream! Summer can be very nice but it is way too short. Were it entirely up to me, we would move to Hawaii (been there many times and LOVE it) or So Cal. However, I can't uproot everyone so here we stay, at least until we will the lottery! :p

We're content in our very small IL town (legally a "village") of around 500. While we live "in town", many of the residents are farmers. There are always disadvantages to where you live (one of ours is driving at least 20 miles to a grocery store, 50 miles to a mall), but for us the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages :)

I don't like where I live. We live in a suburb of Pittsburgh. Its a depressed area since the closing of the steel mills in the 80's. The city of Pittsburgh is in major financial distress. The winters are long, cold and grey. The summers are either too hot or not at all, like last summer. My DH and my family is here. I don't have much family left and would move in a heartbeat. But DH has alot of family left and his parents do not travel so he won't move. I've tried believe me. I'd love to move to the Charlotte NC area. I have a cousin who has lived there for years. Its a great place. Or Arizona. My DH's company has a branch in Scottsdale. I bug him at least once a week to go but he won't budge. I guess I'm stuck here until the kids are grown.
