Many believe Wayne Williams was not the Atlanta Child killer.
My Ex mother in law wroked with the mother of one of the murdered boys. He was killed after several others had been killed. The day he dissapeared he was walking home (from school I think) and noticed a white man following him. He stopped and used a payphone to call 911 ? (not certain, might have been the operator he spoke to, this might have been before Atlanta had 911). Anyway he described the man and his car. The person who took his call thought it was a joke.
Wayne willians was not conviceted of his murder, but the case was closed when Williams was charged with the murder he was convicted of. While Williams might have killed the one boy, I have no doubt that he was not a serial killer and that the killer probably picked up and moved on and is killing somewhere else.

The snipers are not mass murderers in the regular sense of the word. They appear to be muslim terrorists. Muslim terrorists could be any race. The ones who did 9/11 were arab, the ones who bomb in Philippines and Bali are asian, the ones who are holding 700 hostages in a russian theater are white, and the D.C. snipers are black. They are not motivated by race, but by the commandments in the Koran and the other muslim sacred texts which condone the killing of non-muslims.

I understood what Jason meant, and Dana said it very well. . . while there are exceptions, the usual profile for a serial killer is white male..

And from what I have read, it looked to me that while Wayne Williams was more then likely responsible for some of the Atlanta Child Murders, he was probably not responsible for all of them. . the police force was under ernormous preasure to solve the cases, and as I recall, although his arrest and conviction did end the publicity surrounding the case, there were more similar muders afterwards. .

you don't know that these guys were involved with that. just because one converted to Islam several years ago doesn't make this an Al Qaeda plot.

they asked for $10 million to be sent to a bank account in Jamaica.

if they meant the funds for Al Qaeda, that's terrorism.

if they meant to use the funds to hang out on the beach for the rest of their lives, it's "just" a crime spree.

not that it matters to the poeple who got shot, of course.

No, it's just speculation at this point, but I think the attacks were terrorism. After a few shootings these guys thought they could get away with it, so they tried to get some money out of the deal.

Most serial killers kill within their own race.

The sniper isn't really a serial killer according to how profilers label them. The sniper is more of a spree killer.

just a point, i don't think it is that most serial killers go by their first middle and last names, i think when the cops put out an apb or arrest warrant they use people's full names, and so that is the name we hear.

Just a thought, but, maybe most serial killers are white males because white males are the majority in the U.S.? Or are we talking serial killers all over the world? Either way, I'm just glad they seem to finally have the nut-cases!

Leahann - fair question. White males comprise less than 40% of all Americans but over 90% of all serial killers and, until the Maryland Sniper, almost 100% of all spree killers. Something goes in in the sociology and psychology of white males specifically that makes them more likely to pursue this particular criminal course when afflicted with the same mental and situational conditions.

Even more interesting: serial and spree killers occur in far fewer numbers worldwide than they do in the US. Is it cultural? That has been the subject of many anthropology dissertations, I'm sure.

I did read about an FBI profiler who worked the Williams case, from Quantico I think, and it's been so long that I'll never remember his name and most of the facts. (Like what color they were looking for.) But they were able to nail his personality traits, and also how to handle him during questioning and such so that he'd crack. Interesting stuff.
