:wizard: We just booked flights for DLP in late March. We are too excited! Help us choose a hotel.

This is what I have figured out so far:

Sequoia - looks pretty on the outside - kind of reminds me of the Grand Californian. Nice looking indoor pool. Read some complaints in Trip Advisor about the hotel rooms being grubby/dirty and the place needing a rehab.

Cheyenne - looks ok on the outside. No pool. Rooms look nice and clean, and my 2 DSs like the bunk beds.

The cost difference isnt much of a factor.

So - any experiences to help me decide? Will we really use a pool in March?

FYI My DS are 6 and 8, and are VERY energetic.
Thanks

If you have energetic children, then yes you will probably need the pool. The chances are that the Park will shut early in March - maybe as early as 7 o'clock. An hour in the pool may be what's needed.

I haven't stayed at Cheyenne but have stayed 4 times at SL and really love it there.

Hildasmuriel - Thanks for the speedy reply. Since you have stayed at SL a few times, any ideas as to why some people on TripAdvisor have complained about the cleanliness?

Thanks again

The only thing I can say is what some wise person (think it was Ware Bears!) told me. People are far more likely to complain about disappointing things and don't always bother to comment when things are as good as they should be.
I never noticed anything at SL that struck me as grubby. They were painting the outside when we went in April.
The first time we went we stayed in a lodge, which was nice enough, but I would say the Montana rooms are worth the extra, just so that you are in the main building.

I've stayed at both and although the Sequoia Lodge does have a fab pool, in the 5 days that we were there we only used it the once, we were just too tired after being in the parks all day long.
We much preferred the theming of the Cheyenne it's fab, between the two we would choose to stay here everytime.

I stayed at SL twice last year and was totally unimpressed on both occasions. The woodwork in the room is very dark and if it's chipped it's very noticeable and makes it look tatty and both times the bathroom could have done with a bit of TLC, regrouting etc., but I wouldn't say it was dirty at all although I did have a problem with the level of housekeeping or rather lack of it.
First stay, no toiletries at all in the room on the first day, 1 soap and 1 bath gel on day 2 and nothing again on day 3. I also got a very severe eye infection, which I'd never had before or since which made me wonder whether the towel hadn't been changed and that's where I'd picked it up :confused3
Second stay, 1 soap and 1 bath gel on the first night and that was it.
I wouldn't let these things put me off staying there though because it has some very good points.
On the plus side it has a very nice pool, although we have never managed to make it to a pool, even when we stayed for a week at the NPB in March 06, we didn't get time to get to the pool.
If you book a Montana room you're in the main hotel building, so don't have to get dressed up in your outside gear to go down to breakfast, if you're in one of the lodges then you do have to walk back to the main building to the dining room, hotel reception and shops. At the Cheyenne all rooms are away from these areas.
The breakfast is of a slightly higher standard at SL than Cheyenne, and you get proper cutlery not plastic ones, also we found it less busy although we were going down to the 7.00 am slot, I don't know whether things have changed at Cheyenne but when we were there in 2004 you found your own table at SL you're shown to a table. Bare in mind I'm comparing with our stay in 2004.
It's a lovely walk from the parks back to SL through the village at the end of the day, although I've been checking out Google Earth and I don't think that Cheyenne looks that much further in walking distance.
Your boys will probably love the theming of both hotels, but as a mother of 2 boys 14 and 9 now, bunkbeds are the preferred option, the bickering when they share is :headache:
I actually don't think a pool is essential and you'll be surprised at how tired you'll all be by 7.00pm, we normally stay at the park from opening until close, then eat in the Village, do a bit of shopping, grab a night cap and by 10.30 we're all asleep, I have promised the boys severeal times that we will visit the Games Arcade and the Cinema but again there just never seem to be enough hours in the day.
Next year will be our 4th March trip and after weighing up all the pros and cons we've decided to go back to Cheyenne.
I would take how long you're staying into account when deciding on your hotel too, 2 or 3 days and you'll find yourself rushing around, longer than that, you can take it a bit easier and you may find time for the pool. :)

Re: Trip Advisor reviews I'd say take them with a pinch of salt, I was dreading our stay at the NPB after the reviews on there, I came back wondering if I'd stayed at the same hotel as those people. ;)

Yes you still have to find your own table at the Cheyenne, but we booked breakfast slots for 7am and it was practically empty.
You do however get proper cutlery.Oh and they do now have toasters:thumbsup2 I was lead to believe that you could not have toast so was very very pleased to see toasters there when we went a few weeks ago.

I have just returned from staying at SL. I was dreading it after reading trip advisor, but was reassured here!
We stayed in a Montana room, definetly worth the extra money. Our room was spotless, towels changed etc... Only problem we encountered was our hot water not working, they came within 5 minutes and fixed it. The breakfast was better than what we had expected and something for all the family and everyone was really friendly. We didn't have time for a swim, or much else, because by the time we had eaten in the evening we were ready for bed!
All in all the hotel had a really warm and friendly atmosphere and I will defo be going back.

We have just come back from a 4 days stay at the Sequoia Lodge and even i have been pretty happy with this hotel i can tell i have not been much impressed either.
I mean: we had always stopped at the Cheyenne and the only difference i have found between the two is that the rooms are a little smaller at the Cheyenne and you are not sat by a waiter for breakfast and have to find your place to sit down there.
The room at SL was pretty big and the bathroom a good one, divided in two single rooms: a part to wash your face and teeth and do the make up, the other to have a bath and use the toilet, still we found it less *themed* and my sons have not liked at all they had to share the bed when at the Cheyenne they had bunk beds.
The view from our room was depressing, we could just see the back car park......
On the there side, the Cheyenne can be a lot more noisy, we found SL a lovely place to sleep - but for my son but this is another story LOL
