Sequoia Lodge

Hi Everyone,
Firstly, if any of this has already been discussed, which it probably has & I just can't seem to locate, apologies!

I'm looking some help from you knowledgable folk about Sequoia Lodge.

Firstly with the rooms, is it worth the extra cost to get a Golden Forest room? This visit is only a splash & dash type, we'll only be staying one night. I was reading elsewhere that the Montana rooms have been refurbished & sound just as good or would a standard room in one of the lodges do the trick for a short stay?
Does staying in the main building make getting to breakfast any easier? Also, but I could be mistaken, if staying in a Golden Forest room, is their breakfast separate?

With regards to the breakfast, how is it? I stayed in the Cheyenne Lodge last November & the breakfast was very respectable in terms of offerings... Any comparisons versus it? I presume being a higher rated hotel, the Sequoia Lodge should in theory offer a better breakfast?

I probably wouldn't pay the extra for one night, but that would depend what the price difference was before I could make a decision.
I have only stayed in the main building so can't say what the lodges are like. I would imagine they are just as nice rooms but a bit further away from reception. Golden forest breakfast is separate to the main breakfast.
I think I heard that there's some hot options as standard in the main breakfast now, but i'm not sure. It was quite nice back in September 2012 when i was there. You were led to a table and there was plenty of choice. Not sure of the differences between that and the Cheyenne though.

The whole hotel had a complete refurb a couple of years ago. The rooms in the lodges are no different to the main building except you have to go outside to go to breakfast.

For one night I wouldn't pay the extra for GF unless it was only like £20 or something. Breakfast at SL you get fresh fruit (apparently tinned in Cheyenne) and choice of yoghurts along with the cereals, cheeses, meats and pastries along with drinks and bread for toast.

As mention by PP you are shown to your table at the SL which is a bonus

We had hot items in our standard breakfast in January but I'm not sure if that's continuing.
We stayed in a lodge (Yellowstone) and despite the recent refurb, I felt it was a bit tired. Scuff marks, not particularly clean, quite basic to be honest. Location was absolutely fine though.

We stayed in GF last Oct/Nov over Halloween. It's the first time we've stayed in the hotel as we've always done the DLH before that. We were on a tighter budget this time and I'd always fancied the SQL (even over HNY), so gave it a go. It wasn't the DLH but it was fine.

I wasn't overly impressed with GF and definitely wouldn't bother for one night, especially if going at a quiet time. The main perks are the smaller more intimate breakfast - I believe there can be a queue in the normal standard breakfast, the one FP a day and less of a queue at checking in (but this can be variable). But, like I say, at a quiet time, for one night, I wouldn't bother, unless as others said and there was little cost difference. I probably would stay in a main hotel room though - wouldn't fancy being out in a lodge but that's just me.

I would definitely stay at the hotel again - it is really nice inside and the bar area is particularly nice. One thing I did find better than the DLH was the temp of the rooms - I've never been just right in the bedrooms at the DLH (and I've stayed a many different times of year), but at SQL we had a really comfortable night's sleep without needing aircon or heating or anything!

One of the main differences I found was that Sequoia has proper crockery and the Cheyanne plastic I love the Sequoia. Hope it's as good as I remember. Main hotel over the lodge I would go for with a lake view. Xxxxx

Yeah there's a good difference in price for a Montana room vs. Golden Forest, around €120 when I was checking. Going by the feedback, it'll be something to skip & money saved, for this trip at least! ;-)
A main building room with a lake view sounds like a good alternative.
With the breakfast, is it assigned seating for everybody or is that just a Golden Forest perk?

Hi when you check in you are given a breakfast slot. You choose. We have never been turned away if we miss the time. There is usually a queue but this soon goes down and you are shown to your table. Hope you love it. B I'm back in October. Always return to Sequoia. Love the big lounge and bar area of an evening. Best one xxxx

Heading for DLP in a couple of days, hopefully we get through alright & don't get caught up in the ATC strikes planned for this week.
Quick question before I go which my girlfriend just asked... Does the Sequoia Lodge have hair-dryers in the rooms?

Just came back from SL (Montana Room) and yes, there were hair dryers. If you're only there for one night, I don't know that it's worth paying extra for a lake view. I would assume that you'd go straight to the parks once you've check in, be there until dark for Disney Dreams, and then out the next day. You really wouldn't have much time to enjoy the view. We had a room on the first floor looking out into the garden, and it was quite lovely for the short time we were there (2 nights).

Sequoia Lodge was brilliant, such an easy walk to everything. Room was spot on, only complaint was the A/C only went as low as 18C, not sure if that was a fault or standard but we left the window open during the night & that made things a lot more pleasant.
Breakfast was a far nicer experience compared to my previous stays at the Santa Fe & Cheyenne... Not having to scramble for a table is bliss! Lol
One thing we were unsure of over the couple of days was tipping at table service restaurants... Is it expected to tip? The bill breakdown was confusing & didn't help. The service was ok, nothing special or outstanding & personally I didn't think warranted a tip but while paying the bill with cash we were then left for 10 minutes & unsure if our server was coming with change or he'd taken it for a tip. It also left for an awkward exchange when he did return & hesitantly set down our change! Other than that it was a brilliant, albeit short trip.
We'll definitely be staying at the Sequoia Lodge again.

Tipping is not expected as service is included in the bill and they are paid properly unlike the US counterparts. Glad you enjoyed your trip I really like the SL and usually stay there unless I can get a really good deal at the HNY

The 2 double beds doesn't really suit us as the two boys travelling with us will be 12 and 9 and we will also have a 10 month old with us who will need their own cot (which I'm hoping is provided by the hotel). Does the Sequoia Lodge offer bunks in the room?

Any help on this would be great !

Ive just replied on your other thread but as far as Im aware Cheyenne is the only onsite hotel which will guarantee bunk beds as all rooms have them

Thanks so much for your reply! I might have to keep investigating so. The Cheyenne certainly doesn't appeal to me that much.

I wouldn't be put off by the cheyenne, I actually think it is the best themed hotel on sight, so if your travelling with kids they will love it. Also I really enjoyed the chuck wagon cafe...it's not as formal as some of the sit down restaurants but the food is good and again the kids usually enjoy it as they have more freedom to get up and play or move around. It's also really good value for money.

The Disneyland Hotel and Newport Bay do family rooms for 5 with an extra day bed. Could suit you.
