Sequioa Lodge questions!!!

We are going to DLP for the very first time on 8th June 2008 and are staying at Seqoia Lodge. I need some reassuarances as I've read some not so good reviews!!! We are in a standard room, what are our chances of being up graded to a Montana room at this time of year?
What time should we book for breakfast as I've heard it's a bit of a bun fight!!!? What is on offer for breakfast?
How long does it take to walk to the parks and Disney Village? Is it all easy to find?
What are the restaurants like?

Hmmmm- well let's see which ones I can help with.
I found the ordinary rooms were fine, but chose to pay for a Montana room on our second stay. This was well worth the extra money, because it was Christmas and cold and we didn't want to have to dress up warm to go to breakfast. This won't matter so much in June, but I would still recommend paying a bit extra (it's not much) to get a Montana room - don't rely on an upgrade as they seem to be rarer these days.

We have only ever had a 7.00am breakfast so I can't comment on later times. It was quiet then and there was no queuing necessary. There was a choice of cereals, different breads for toasting, cheeses, meats, olives and garlic, crispy rolls and croissants and pain au chocolat. To spread were jams, marmalades and cheese spreads. There were yoghurts and a fruit salad, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and choice of fruit juices.

We haven't tried the Sequoia Lodge restaurants in the evenings yet.

It takes about 10 minutes to walk from SL through the Village to the Parks - that's without any toddlers though - they would slow you down. It is all easy to find.

Stayed here last year loved the hotel would defo go back had a montanta room would recommend pre booking it.. the breakfast we had was for 7.45 but you could turn up a bit earlier if you are you and i did not see one bun fight.. you could also order a cooked breakfast for about 7 or 8 euro's never got this as there was lots of choice anyway, had our evening meal there on the last night and wished we had tried it sooner it was delicious... if you have kiddies that can not swim make sure you take their arm bands as the pool has no shallow end though this did not spoil are enjoyment of the pool..
if you book this hotel you will not be disappointed..

At 7.00 - 7.30 am on both visits the restaurant was empty and we were shown straight to a table, (our breakfast reservations were for later on both visits but the CM's don't bat an eyelid if you turn up early). When leaving the restaurants around 8.00 - 8.15 people were queuing to get in.

Only eaten there in the evening once, and had a very ncie meal at a reasonable cost too.

How deep is the pool as although my kids can swim, I can't!

We really like the Sequoia Lodge. However, if you are going at a busy time and want a Montana room then I would book it beforehand. We've always found plenty to eat at breakfast but think it is better to eat early as it seems to get very busy later on. The pool is very nice and the hot tub relaxing but when we were there the staff were enforcing the "no children" rule - I think it is children under 12 who are not allowed in.

Oh dear that doesn't sound good. I'm usually fine taking the kids swimming as long as it's not too far past my waist.

I just assumed the pool would have a shallow end for non-swimmers/kids.

Hi - we stayed there last May and we loved it. As we'd only stayed at Davy Crockett before it was so nice to be able to walk to the Village and the Parks. It only takes about 15 minutes to walk and as it rained every day(well apart from our last day ) it was easy to go back and change and to have a rest.

We chose to have an early breakfast - 7am, it was nice and quite but started to get busy as we left at 8am.

it takes about 3-4 mins to get to the village it is just the other side of the lake and when you have walked through the village it takes another 3-4 mins then, you are in the park tops 10 -15mins that is with bag check as well

Hi this a picture of the Village from our Montana Lakeside room, shows you the proximity to the village about a 3-4 min walk!!! We love the Seqouia Lodge never stayed anywhere else actually and if I suggest otherwise the family grumble
bottom left of the pic where the two figures are is the path to the hotel from Lake Disney.
The huuuge ballon (panoramagique) is located in front of cafe mickey at the gateway to the village
The Neon blue thing in the very left of the pic is the Tower of Terror in the studios
And the very white thing just above the level of the trees ( just to the right of and in line with the balloon) is The Castle!!!

Hi,

Im going to be a pain and say that I didn't have a very good experience at the SL. We were upgraded to a Montana room, but the room was adjoines onto another one and a 3 year old in the room next door kept me and my wife awake for most of the night. We did ask to be moved and that request was met with quite alot of trepidation, but they did it eventually.

The restaurants were not the best. The service was awful and the food arrived cold and about an hour after we had ordered it.

I do believe however that the experience that I had there was just a one off and from what I can make out, most people seem to love it there.

Im sure that you will have a good time. Like I said, I think that my experience was a one off and I just went at a bad time.

Well i came back Friday night and i have to say that i did not have the best experience either.

Despite booking a Montana room back in July 2007 i was told when i checked in that there was a problem with their computer system and they had no Montana rooms lakeside or otherwise left in the whole building.
My only option was to take a room in one of the lodges outside. Even speaking to the manager did not help and i had no choice but to take a room in the Big Sur Lodge.
Ok, so they refunded me my money (36 Euro's) but that really is not the point, if i had of wanted to stay in one of the lodges i would have booked that.

Did you end up getting your stay booked on DVC points?

I tried to get end of May but the whole resort was sold out and now I have been phoning every day to see if they are going to release end of July dates.

We too are hoping to stay at SL.

We stayed there a couple of years ago and loved it. It's my mum's favourite hotel (mine is New York, but I don't mind staying at SL) It's very close to Village and the parks! When we ate at one of the hotel restaurant we got the same menu as they serve at the Buffalo Bill show... Which was quite nice!

Yes I did book with points.................originally I tried for Disneyland Paris Hotel and then New York and when they were both sold out I plumped for Sequioa!!! They said that they only had availability for Sequioa and Newport Bay and this was for the second week in June. Good luck in trying for later in the year, I had no idea it would sell out so quickly and will be more aware next time!!
