September...what's it like

We will be there Aug 31 - Sept 7. Southern schools should have already been back in session for a week or two and most Northern schools are just starting back that week. It will be our first trip during Labor Day week and I hope the experience others have had regarding crowd levels will prove true.

Its been 4 years since our last trip to the World but it feels like 10. So excited to go back! We were able to take advantage of Free Dining so even better. We've been to Disney during just about every month of the year at some point in the past and I know what to expect weather-wise living in the South. We are going with family and some have never done the water parks or DisneyQuest so there will be plenty of opportunities to cool off.

I find myself spending more and more time on the Disboards as we get closer to our dates. I'm already up to 20 hours a day and its starting to take its toll :)

I'm glad to see someone ask this question. We're thinking about going the third week of September next year and it will be my first time going during that month. I usually go in November but we have another family going and that's the only time they can go. I know it's still hot and humid but I could handle it if the crowds are low. So far it looks like they still offer free dining during that month so that would be a plus. Last year we got fd at POR in November but it was the regular dining plan which I wasn't a big fan of. Too many adrs kept us away from the parks and I'm not much of a big eater though the restaurants we picked were great. Thinking about staying at POP this time so we can make it more affordable for the family coming this us. This will be my sil and bil first time ever.

I just got my flight reservations so I WILL be in Disney Sep 11-16!!! I'm very excited- it's my college graduation present, so this will be the first time in the parks during a non-peak season. As a student, my only options for visiting Disney have been the summer, spring break, and the holidays. So I'm so excited to finally go during a slower time of the year.

I will be there the same exact dates as you! 11-16! Woohoo :goodvibes

Schools in the Atlanta area go back the first week in August.

Shhh!! Stop telling everyone how great September is! Then they'll ALL want to go then.

I've been going in September for the last several years. I noticed in sept 2013 the crowds were a lot heavier than on prior trips during the same weeks. We go the middle two weeks of sept. This past year was also the most rainy days we've ever had. It is really hot still.

October is my favorite time to go, we started going in September because the free dining fit into my work schedule best during that month.

September is awful! It's hot and crowded and literally the worst! Avoid at all costs!!

;):p

We won't be getting free dining since we rented DVC points for AKL. Our savings on the resort, however, is greater than the savings we'd have if we got free dining.

Rack rate for our villa during that time is $315 a night, or $3,150, plus tax, for our stay. By renting points we got the same room for $1,287, or a nearly 60 percent savings.

We're paying out-of-pocket for dining, which we estimate will come to about $1,000 for the entire stay. This includes a TS every night, alcohol, snacks and gorging ourselves stupid at the Food & Wine Festival.

BUT, we might head back to WDW in September or October of next year; and if that happens, we'll aim for free dining.

As long as you are saving money, doesnt it make the trip more wonderful? Glad you got the discounts! We were thinking about doing the rental for a villa but were afraid we wouldnt get our money back if we had to cancel and we knew we couldnt book as far out as we did (we booked last year for this year). It definitely makes sense though to do it like you did. We did the math on free dining and it saves us a few hundred but I think thats only because there are six of us going and staying in a 2-bedroom villa. I hope you have a great time gorging! I love me some Disney! ::yes::

This will be our first September trip, 9/24-9/28. We did go once Oct 6th, so I'm expecting the weather to be about the same -- which is to say, HOT! We will bring some chilly towels and stay hydrated, but I have to say, I'm not that upset about it. We go a lot in the late fall and winter months and it's never hot enough to swim. I am sorta excited for a nice HOT Florida vacation! :beach: Especially after that atrocious winter we had!! ;)

It was very hot in early September last year but once that early evening thunderstorm rolled through, it was very refreshing and gave us a little extra boost each day because the temperature would drop several degrees for a little while during and after the storm passed by.

It was a joke. lol Trying to dissuade people from going in September to keep crowds low. :thumbsup2

Ha! It's been a long week and I am a bit slow. My kids make fun of me for not catching sarcasm all the time! I was thinking maybe she knows something I don't! TGIF! :rotfl2:
