Non-Disney Online Games Do you really need to connect to the internet to play the Nintendo Switch game Hogwarts Legacy?

I had such high hopes for Hogwarts Legacy for Nintendo Switch but I noticed that if you want to continue the game to go to the next level it states that you must connect to the internet to continue the game and I want to ask if it is true? I just got the game for Christmas and was looking forward to continuing the game but it says you must connect to the internet to go to the next level of Hogwarts Legacy. Do they make a non-internet version of Hogwarts Legacy for Nintendo Switch? I want to exchange the game for a better Nintendo Switch game but my mom says I cannot

The game itself can be played offline but you MUST download the patches/updates to play.

The game probably requires some updates. I'm surprised that it let you play at all, but maybe some patches were not crucial. You just need to connect to the WiFi once and do it. The game has been out a while, so it shouldn't need more recent patches. It's a good game - I hope you can make it work.

I decided to trade it for Assassin's Creed but I don't know why Hogwarts Legacy needs you to connect to the internet. I mean it's a Nintendo Switch not a smartphone or a computer or even a tablet. But they should've made a non-internet version of Hogwarts Legacy for the Nintendo Switch. Is there any other Harry Potter games for the Nintendo Switch?
Thanks for the reply Brian

Actually the Switch is a mini tablet of sorts. Not only can you play games, but you can watch Netflix, Hulu, Prime and YouTube on it. You can stream music from Apple Music and Spotify. With the eShop you can buy and download games instantly. Plus many more features.

Hogwarts IS an offline game but you did NEED to connect to get updates. I'm sorry your parents are strict about you being online (is that why you sneak on here late at night?) but you will need to eventually connect to get not only system updates but updates for any games you play.

To dive a bit more into as well, it's where a lot of modern games are at nowadays when it comes to storage and playability.

Hogwarts Legacy is a fairly large game, even for the scaled down Switch version. Developers can choose between different sizes of Switch Cartridge storage (from 1GB to 32GB), but the prices get really steep on the higher end, which is why most developers opt for smaller sizes and just have the rest be downloaded over internet. I believe some developers revealed that the cost of the 32GB cartridge was exponentially higher than the cost of a 100GB Blu-Ray/Xbox disc, so the developers for Hogwarts Legacy decided to use the 8GB cartridge which is stated to be around the same prices maybe a bit more expensive than the Blue-Ray standard.
