I am so excited to be taking my family to DL! This will be the first time for my DH:hug:, 2 princessesprincess: princess: , and 1 pirate(in training)pirate: . The last time I was there was 18 years ago!

Here is the question: I am a huge Nightmare Before Christmas fan:cheer2: :cheer2: and would love to see HM with the Christmas decorations. However, I really want my families first trip to be like the regular DL. I have booked rooms at HOJO (thanks to the info from this board!) for early September. How much difference would it make in lines/decorations etc from changing from September 8-12 to Sept 22-26? (HM opens again Sept 21)

If HMH opens 9/21, then I would suspect they would have a majority of the Haloweentime decorations in place for that opening. Last year, by the last week of September, they were in full Halloweentime mode.

My guess is that the crowds will be slightly larger because of HMH's "opening", but overall the park will not be crowded at all. However looking at your dates, I think you should reconsider them. You plan on all weekdays, however the main night entertainment is only shown on weekends during low seasons (including September). That means if you want to see the fireworks or Fantasmic or both, you should schedule at least one (I'd suggest 2) weekend days. Yes there will be crowds on those days, but the very lightly crowded weekdays will make up for it.

We are planning on staying through Friday and driving home Saturday morning. Are there events on Saturday that won't be on Friday? If so I will look at changing dates to include Saturday.

Yes at that time of year you'll want to include a Saturday night stay or you'll miss things.

Our trip last year was the 17th through the 21st, and we saw a significant different in the crowd level on the 21st from the days before.

If you're that big a NBC fan, it behooves you to not miss it. I personally am not a big fan of the HM with the overlay, but I know my hubby, who adores the movie, really liked it.

Oh I just read this..."I really want my families first trip to be like the regular DL". Hmm. By the time we got there on the 17th there was quite a lot of Halloweentime decorations up, but I don't know about the 8th through 12th. Hard question!

The 21st is a Sunday this year. I think the HMH will probably open up on the 19th Friday. The last few years it has opened on a Friday. I was there last year 19-22st The 21st the official Halloweentime kickoff, was Friday. Yes the crowds were heaver but we went to DCA that day and came back and forth a lot. It was fun.

Out of couriosity, where did you see HMH opening on the 21st? Is it on the website?

thanks

Thank you for that link. I had been planning our DL trip for Sept 20, 2009 but seeing the pictures of HMH has me thinking that I should rethink our dates. It will be my DS's first DL trip and DD's first that she will be old enough to remember and I want them to see the regular HM, not HMH. I have never seen the Halloween decor so I wanted to see it, but maybe that will have to wait for another trip. :sad1:

Guys, didn't you see my post?

The dates on that wdwinfo page state '07, not '08. They also mention the DL calendar for when the ride goes into refurb...I doubt that that's up on the calendar yet since it only goes to June on the DL site...

DisneyNic, to see the Halloween stuff you are always (until they come to their senses, LOL, I despite HMH and love love love HM) going to see the HMH. Same for November and December. Since that movie encompasses two holidays, they keep it up for over 3 months, bleah.

Yea, I've found that out. I'm so disappointed. I was so looking forward to getting to see all the awesome fall/halloween decorations. We have usually gone the week after Labor Day so we have always just missed it. I would still like to go see the Halloween decorations someday, not just for my kids' first DL trip. I want them to experience HM the way it should be. I am not a fan of NBC so I wasn't happy about seeing how HM was SOOOOO taken over by it. Oh well, we will just have to go back in late Sept some other year and avoid HMH all together.;) Thanks for the info.
