September- please convince me it's a good idea!

We live in NY too (Long Island now)... And are also going September 17th. We love September bc of low crowds... The heat wasn't too bad when we went in '12 in September... My then 5 yo thought he would die in 85 degrees, but it wasn't bad and only rained the first night! Praying for same weather!! 108 days! Lol

I love September trips! We'd be going again in September this year, except I'm already taking my daughter out of school to go in December, so don't think it would be looked on too favorably to take her out twice in the same semester.

I'm NOT a heat person at all, but I'll always go for lower crowds vs temp.

We were going in October even though I knew our week was blacked out of free dining - but when push came to shove and I saw the offer in black and white, I caved and changed our dates. Late September it is. I am mildly worried about the heat, but we went a few years back at the beginning of October, so I'm sure it's not much different. We have been multiple times now during cool-ish weather and I think I'm ready for a "Cant wait to get in the pool!" type of trip. We have been several times the week before Thanksgiving, and boy is that LOW crowds. Like walk-on-to-Splash-Mountain-at-2pm/who-needs-a-FP? type of crowds. I sure hope that's what we are in for in Sept!!! :beach: With swimming this time, instead of scarves and jackets in the morning!

Ok, now I feel MUCH better about our trip.

Thank you all....:cool1::cool1::cool1:

I am feeling much better about our upcoming trip. Now to get motivated and get planning more things for our stay!!!

OP, I agree...September is the time to go!! We went last October, it was crazy busy!!! Even the DVC calls September their "treasured" season. :) I mean, it's Florida. We have two temperatures here: Very hot & less hot. ;)

Will it be hot? Most likely yes. But honestly, our September trip still goes down as my one of my all-time favorites. The low crowds totally made up for the temps. As long as you pace yourselves you'll be totally fine. Just start out early, take a nice break at the pool with a yummy drink in hand during the afternoon, and head back to the parks after to enjoy the perfect temps and even lower crowds. You'll have an awesome time. :goodvibes

As others have said, it will be crazy hot. Take it slow and take breaks. I think you will be there during food and wine, so that will be fun to check out.

Well, we went last September and had an awesome time and awesome weather!! It was the last week in Sept and the weather was not what would be the norm, but you never know. We went in Oct one year expecting to have decent temps and it was in the 90's everyday that trip!

<<<<< countless end of September trips under our belt. We are from the north and the heat is a hard thing to do but we get through it. Our strategy:

Get to the parks early, stay until around 1 or 2pm.
Head back to our resort for a refreshing pool dip or nap (I usually do the nap because I am exhausted from the heat).

Had back to whatever park has late EMH for the evening when it cools off.

We take breaks during the day by enjoying the a/c whether is be a ride or ADR.

My biggest problem: sweating from the alcohol that I consume:rotfl::rotfl:

We're usually late Jan to mid-February visitors and I am concerned about the heat for our late-Sept early Oct trip. I don't do well in the heat at all!

We had one really hot, blazing sun day on our last trip and the Frog Toggs chilly pad saved the day. It worked beautifully to cool me down. My only wish is that I bought the neutral color instead of the bright yellow! I see that they carry many products like bandannas, head and wrist bands. I'm going to try some of the products out before we go to see how I like them.

I second your idea of carrying a pair of socks. I've done that on trips not because of sweating, but for comfort. It feels good to have on a fresh pair of socks.

We typically go in Sept. Hot and humid for sure. We've had rain every single trip and on one day it rained all day with a thunderstorm that delayed the MSEP and Wishes for over an hour. Also closed a bunch of rides for a few hours. That kind of rain is not the norm though. Most of the rain comes through in the afternoon and just for an hour or two. Enough to cool things off so the evening isn't so bad.

Crowds are low and that makes the heat tolerable. I will say though that we have noticed crowds increasing in September. I really do worry we are about to lose Sept as a truly low-crowd time :( We really love going in Sept.

Totally agree with this bolded part. I think a lot of people that are going this Sept. expecting walk on rides and clear paths are going to be really disappointed. This will be our 6th Sept. in a row and every year it has gotten noticeably busier. With the way reservations are looking this year, I expect it to easily be 4-5 crowd levels. Last year one evening at F&W in Sept. it was so packed we couldn't even move around. Granted level 4s are nothing like Christmas but it won't be (especially late Sept.) the 1 & 2s of years past IMO. I personally would be prepared for moderate crowds at times in late September.

Focus on the crowds being low. The heat is something you just have to deal with when it happens and it will and the rain will come.

But crowds will be low, just keeping saying that over and over. :thumbsup2

Let me ask you guys this... Everyone seems to be complaining about the heat in September, but is it really any worse than July or August? I've gone in July the last couple times and I thought the heat was fairly tolerable as far as Florida goes. September can't be WORSE can it?

OP, I'm doing my first September trip this year and I'm super pumped! Low crowds all the way, baby!!

If you are used to July/August then you will find September the same or better. We thought our Sept. trip was much more bearable weather wise than our June trip last year. They were both hot but for some reason, Sept. seemed better but that could be because of the lower crowds. I think you will enjoy September!

This thread has been reassuring to me as well. We are going 9/23-9/28. We live in TX so we are used to the heat, but not the Florida humidity. Thank you OP for posing the question and thanks to everyone else for helpful information.

I'm a Florida resident. September still is hot (our cooler temperatures normally can hit anywhere from late October-January), but I don't think any months here can be hotter than July and August. And WDW is Central FL-they don't get the nice tropical breezes we get on the Gulf Coast.

Hey, I'm with all of you "Pro September" vacationers!! I'm staying optimistic with the "less heat, less crowds" chant!
