September/October 2013 check in

What are you all ordering? I. Hadn't even thought to do that...but I have scheduled a few shopping days in our trip.
.

I put an order in at The Disney Store when they had a good sale and free shipping. I figure it will cut down on some of the pestering from the kids when we are over there. Besides, we won't have much time to spend browsing in shops with DS3 in tow....

I hit the 30s tomorrow!

Well we've hit the one month to go mark. In exactly one month time our plane should be starting it's run down the runway. but :cool1::yay:at the same time. And I still haven't written any lists. I really need to start.

I am wanting to buy some luggage (Backpack, duffle bag, suitcase). Would like to buy some perfume as well but I am worried about the bottle being broken in transit? Also some sandals/shoes and t-shirts for the kids, and whatever else takes my fancy:)

And yay for your 1 month to go!! You must be so excited.

I was looking at ordering some stuff, especially when the Disney store had their sale, but I emailed BWPPI and they said they could only hold packages from 5 days before. So will mostly have to wait till we get there :(

Yeah I wanted to buy from the Disney when they had their recent sale but DHL wouldn't take it so far out. Fingers crossed they have a sale when I'm over there!!

all my parcels have been signed for and waiting at BWV...the ebay ones I've asked the sellers to wait till end of august to post them

so far there will be approx 4 large boxes from disney, and now I have ordered 5 watches, some deodorant, a lego bag and bits of stuff from amazon so I'll see how long that takes to arrive.

i think with DVC locations they are used to people sending dry goods/groceries from home to use in the villas so no biggy......

:offtopic: 41 days to go. just saying:hyper:

Oops I didn't know this I have already sent parcels to GCV they arrived today I hope they don't send it back!

I was sending them there nearly 2 months in advance...just be sure to tell them what courier sent them ie fedex, US postal, etc..as they have 3 separate storage rooms for each delivery company i found out later, saves a lot of time standing around while they look ......:thumbsup2

Morning all...31 days here :)

Was just wondering if any of you took. Aussie themed goodies with you (ie Tim Tams etc) for mouse keepers? I was thinking of doing this for Disney as well as our host for our NYC accommodation (we're not staying with him but in his apartment and he's been wonderful!).

I didn't do this last time so not sure if I would need to declare these upon entering the US?

No, we don't take gifts for mouse-keepers, but we're doing FE on our cruise this year and will be taking stuff. As for the food issue, I can definitely help you with that, as we regularly took food from the UK with us on holiday (American tea bags suck!)

The simple answer is: YES, declare. Absolutely, no question about it; it's the same as when you enter Australia - always declare.

If you have food, ANY food, then you should declare it. There are plenty of foods that are acceptable to take into the country. This is normally how it goes for us:

* Fill out the quarantine form and select 'Yes' for food
* Immigration look at your cards and ask 'what food exactly'
* Tell immigration your list of food
* Sometimes they make a note on the card, some times they don't
* Proceed to quarantine and show your card again
* They read and again ask you what food you have
* Tell quarantine what you have
* They will either say: no problem or ask you to put your suitcase through the additional x-ray scanner (where they specifically look for food items)
* Collect your bags from x-ray (if necessary)
* Leave the airport

It's all pretty simple and they will prefer your honesty. If you hide the fact you have food, and then they find it, even if it's allowed it, they will instantly be thinking 'what else is this person hiding' and you don't want to get on their wrong side!

I've taken Tim Tams, Karamello Koalas, Columbines, vegemite etc into the US for friends. Just declare them on your form and I've not had any issues taking sweets/chocolates/biscuits through.

I personally wouldn't give them to mousekeepers but it is a personal choice thing.

PIO, do you say it's vegemite or just say you're taking in a whole bunch of chocolate? The reason I ask is that I've been told that sometimes they confiscate the vegemite? And do you put food in checked baggage or carry on (I am thinking checked baggage, with snacks for ourselves for the flight in carry on). I want to take Tim Tams for the staff at Hojos but am thinking it might be pointless as 1. It might melt (we are going to San Fran and Vegas before we go to Anaheim) and 2. DS will want to eat it all for himself (he adores Tim Tams!)

I can't remember if there is space on the form to declare the items. But yes, I do declare vegemite when asked by immigration/customs. They always ask and I always mention it.

I know that there was a policy in 2007 or so where they did take vegemite off you; but I also believe the rescinded the policy shortly after. I did check up vegemite and bringing it in the US about a month or so back and it seems to be okay to bring it in.

We plan to bring vegemite with us so that we can have it on toast when we're travelling in Sep/Oct.

I pack my Tim Tams, chocs/lollies and vegemite in checked baggage. I haven't looked in the supermarket lately, but they used to sell vegemite in tubes rather than the jars. I found that the tubes were a lot easier to manage than bringing a jar. Not sure if they still sell them packaged that way anymore.

Rented dvc also down to 45 days sooooo excited just bought new mickey shirts from old navy starting to loo at what I have to pàck and what I will stil need to get .....my daughter also starts 1st grade before we go so have that to look forward to this is an adults only trip for 10 years married

I was trying to decide today what has a better ring to it:

- 7 weeks
- 49 days
- just over 1 1/2 months.

I'm already looking forward to Thursday when we can officially say we're going next month :)

Yes, can't wait :)
DS's passport arrived today. So will do our ESTAs at the weekend. Getting down to the business end now. Suitcases have been pulled out and I've started throwing things in randomly ( I will then pull out, make a list and pack properly over the next month or so)

seems so many of us are heading off soon!

For the first time I'm starting to get really excited about our October trip! Before it just felt 'too far away'.

COME SOONER

Haha - I've been looking forward to saying that too.

We are leaving in 48 days. I think?

Feeling excited but also daunted as its our first trip to the US and first time I'm travelling with the kids by myself.
