Maybe we are crazy, but how do you plan your days so exact?

We are on vacation! The idea for us it to have fun, to see something you want to do or stop for and just enjoy. We have a few dinners planned booked. But for the most part of our vacation, we just want to have fun and not be on a time table. Are we crazy not to book every morning, afternoon, lunch, dinner and evening activity?

Since my sweetie decided to come along, what was supposed to be a leisurely solo trip has become a wonderful adventure. I am sure a lot of this will change when we get there!

Sept. 8 - arrive in Orlando at 9:45 am, ME to POR, hopefully in MK by 11 am. Ressies for CRT lunch at 2pm and then perhaps head over to EPCOT for some fun and dinner at San Angel Inn.

Sept. 9 - EPCOT day! Ressies for Coral Reef at 2 pm and Le Cellier at 7:40pm (this last one was a very last minute thing. They still had a few seating left, which was surprising!)

Sept. 10 - Animal Kingdom. We plan on using morning EMH and have ressies at Boma for 6:30pm. Either make it an early night or hit DD.

Sept. 11 - Some park in the morning and my auntie's house for a BBQ in the evening. Not sure yet which park, either revisit one or go to MGM.

Sept. 12 - Either MGM if not done the day before or rest in the morning and revisit MK or EPCOT. Monorail over to CG for dinner at 7:30 pm.

Sept. 13 - Not thinking that this is my going home day. :guilty: But it is my sister's 18th birthday, so at least we have a fun party to look forward to when we get back!!! :cheer2:

Have a great time everybody!!!

Kat

My DD17 & I are taking our very first trip together ever!

9/2:
Leave the house at 3:30am! Take train to Airport. Catch our flight from Portland at 7:00am, arrive in Orlando at 6:00pm DME to POP. Relax at Hotel

9/3:

9/4:
MGM all day Dinner at Mama Melrose

9/5:

9/6:

9/7:
Magic Kingdom All Day Breakfast at Crystal Palace

9/8:
Blizzard Beach most of the day Epcot at night Dinner at Coral Reef

These are based on our PS ressies. Everything else is played by ear....

But for the most part of our vacation, we just want to have fun and not be on a time table. Are we crazy not to book every morning, afternoon, lunch, dinner and evening activity?

For me, planning is half (ok, maybe not half) the fun. Also - I've tried going without a plan and I just get too stressed. We make a plan and then if we don't want to follow it, we're fine with that. Having a sketch of what you want to do in a day doesn't take the fun away - really. ;) Many of us also plan around parade schedules, extra hour days, special occasions, etc. That way, you don't really have to think so much while you're there. (As in - you wake up and want to be spontaneous, so you get on the bus for AK, only to realize that it was EMH morning and the park is already mobbed when you arrive at the normal opening....OR...you spend one evening in MK and think maybe the next night you'll be able to see Fantasmic and then, you realize you'll miss the only night of Spectromagic during your trip if you go to see Fantasmic, but you don't want to miss that either.... can you see the stress building?? ) I hope you realize that's sort of tongue in cheek - but planning just takes the pressure off for me once I'm there. :cool1:

I plan so that we definitely hit the major things we want to see. This trip it's Illuminations since we never went to Epcot last time. Other than the night shows & dining plan, we're pretty open. The kids won't ride the big headliner rides so the only thing I want to plan early for is the Safari ride at AK. I do agree that planning is 1/2 the fun & takes the stress off when you get there. I have back up plans in case it rains & the night show is cancelled for some reason. Or if it's not a good water park day. My hubby is a last minute planner & it drives me nuts to waste 1/2 a morning because he's just now figuring out where to meet up w/friends. Sorry, my issue!

Anyway, here's our schedule- me, DH, DD11, DD5, DS3

9/23 - get kids out of school at 1, go to BWI, get in 6:10, take ME to POR, swim or walk around, CS if hungry

9/24 - MK day, lunch at CP, dinner CS, stay for Spectro(must see!) & maybe Wishes if kids are cooperating

9/25 - AK day, CS lunch, to over to Epcot for San Angel Inn, walk around & Illuminations

9/26 - water park - which one for kids?, dinner at WCC 6:50 either stay at park all day or go to DTD at some point

9/27 - MK til late afternoon, head to Concourse for dinner then MGM for show

9/28 - free morning, either head to parks or make ADR for Chef Mickey's & go to DTD, take ME to airport at 1pm

Wow, typing it out I realize how short the trip will be. :( At least we know from last time that our kids do fine going all day and we take lots of breaks in the parks. Please feel free to let me know if anyone sees anything that won't work well. Toying w/trying to get some meal at GF, would love to eat there & still bummed over no times at Le Cellier.

I usually plan some PS's and maybe a tour or two, but that's it. The last time I went to WDW (November 2004), I was on this structured itinerary. I actually came back more stressed than when I left! :rolleyes1

I had so many things planned that I was more concerned being at certain places at certain times, that I felt like I was on a schedule most of the time. Not the best for me. My loving suggestion is to plan a few things, but then play, play, play. :Pinkbounc

I also found that using the Unofficial Guide to see what I wanted without too many lines was very helpful, as well as getting to the parks when they opened.

Go, relax, and enjoy! :flower:

Thank you for your answers. I was beginning to think I was making a big mistake. We have a few things planned. And yes, I too enjoy the planning part of the vacation. Half the fun for me is learning what all is available and new atractions while we are there. :earsgirl: Here are our plans as of now.

9-23 - We are flying a red-eye out at midnight.

9-24 - Flight should get in about 7 AM. We will pick-up our bags, and get our rental car. Plan a stop for bottled water, fresh fruit and breakfast items. Have breakfast somewhere on the way to the Polynesian. Figure we will arrive around 10 AM. Room will probably not be ready. We will play this by ear. Maybe head to DDD and shop.

7:30 - dinner ressies for Narcoosee's

9-25 - 8:00 AM - Crystal Palace - Charater breakfast
Hope to get pictures of us infront of castle without tons of people. Head on over to Fantastie Land and ride the rides the fill up fast. If the park gets crowded we will head back to the resort and rest and swim, explore.

Dinner - Ohana's

9-26- no plans for day. Dinner at Cinderella's Royal Table, then watch Spectomagic and Wishes

9-27 - no plans

9-28 - No plans for the day. Have a DIS Illuminations dessert party at 8 PM :cheer2: :Pinkbounc :cheer2:

9-29- no plans

9-30 - Move over to AKL - CL - Start of Food and Wine Festival, will hang out at Epcot

10-1 - No plans

10-2 - Our wedding anniversary - Sunrise Safari
DH is planning the rest of the day

10-3 & 10-4 - no plans

10-5- In the evening we will be going on the Wanyama Safarai

10-6- No plans

10-7 - The day is free- we fly home late evening.

We want to have dinner at the Coral Reef some evening, and I need to plan a trip to Wilderness lodge to explore and have dinner at Artist Point.

If any one have has any suggestions, please let me know. I hope you all have a wonderful time.

It's fun to read other people's plans :)

As for ours:
Monday, Sept 12 - Drive down to KC for flight, check into Clarion for park-n-fly

Tuesday, Sept 13 - Catch the early flight to Orlando, arriving around 11am. Take the Magical Express Shuttle to Coronado Springs to hopefully check in early!
If we can check in -- take a nap!!! Then head to DTD for shopping and food
If we can't check in yet -- leave the carry-ons, then head to DTD.

Wednesday, Sept 14 - MK Day! Dinner 5:30pm at Liberty Tree Tavern

Thursday, Sept 15 - Epcot Day! Lunch 12noon at Teppanyaki, Dinner 7:00 at Chefs de France

Friday, Sept 16 - MGM Day! Dinner at 50's Prime Time Cafe

Saturday, Sept 17 - Fly back mid-morning, drive back to Omaha that night.

I've been trying to strike a balance between planning and 'letting it go'. It's my first trip to WDW, so part of me wants to cram everything in! I also don't want to be exhausted after the trip, as I head back out on business after only one day at home to catch up on sleep :p
