September 3, 2005 --- Who is going?

I plan to wear a black dress; something already in my closet. I just checked out dresses in the the sale/clearance sections of coldwatercreek.com, fashionbug.com and jcpenney.com. Lots of good buys.

Off to work tomorrow to support my DCL addiction.....

Jan

Capt Crash -- I vote for the Promenade Lounge pre-drill. I checked an old Navigator and the fire drill was listed at 4pm.

Mom2Boyz - Macy's had a really good one day sale yesterday and I got a cute pair of black capris with little butterflies..I'll pair that will a pink tank and a sweater for the Palo brunch. I was stunned at some of the prices. The capris were $48 (normally), but on clearance for $13. I find it physically painful to pay full price. They also had some really nice dresses, but I'm all set there. We don't do the super-formal thing (no tux), but hubby will wear a suit and I've got a couple of really nice dresses. I may only take one, since we're doing Palo on one of the formal nights. Unless our tablemates are also doing Palo the same night, nobody will know that I'm wearing the same dress twice. It's my basic black dress that can be dressed up. Then basic skirt/blouse type stuff for the other nights. I'm guessing that I can skip the whole pantyhose torture drill for every night, except the formal/semi-formal nights. For the Pirate night I've got a gauze-like skirt/blouse set that is super comfy and packs well.

SHOES -- no body has mentioned shoes. I'm taking swim shoes, one pair of dress shoes, a dressy pair of flip flops and I'll wear my "athletic thong shoes" (speedo flip flops) or tennis shoes. I've read posts from folks who take a whole shoe suitcase. :) I want a shoe suitcase, but Andy just laughs when I mention it. I learned an important lesson last year....do NOT take a new pair of dress shoes and believe you will be okay. It's a very, very bad thing. Although luckily I had extra band-aids with me.

MickeyManiac, I didn't realize you had a son around my oldest DS age. Tyler is 8, how old is Alex? Hopefully, Mom2boyz2000's Josh, my DS Tyler and Alex can be great friends and want to stay in the lab for hours. Anyone else have kids around this age?

Robyn & Mom2boyz2000:
My son Luke has been emailing MickeyManiac's and DisneyNutMary's sons (and having a great time doing it!!) He is 10. He would love to exchange emails with your sons too! More friends the merrier!! :grouphug:

PM me if Tyler or Josh would be interested in exchanging emails with Luke.

I would love for there to be a big group of friends for all of them to hang out with!

Robyn, my son Tommy is 7, but I am planning to bump him up to the 8-9's, he very mature for his age (his normal playmates are all older) and he was bored in the 5-7's last year.

He would be thrilled to share e-mails with Tyler, if Tyler is interested. My older DS, Bobby, will help him with the e-mails.

Just PM me if Tyler is interested.

Clone and Mary....I think Josh would like to email your boys. I would be good if they had a little group. Mary...when is your son's birthday. Do they let yu bump them up at your discretion or is it up to the staff? PM me and well exchange email addresses. Thanks

Suzanne

Mom2boyz - The button on my light khaki polo shorts is loose. I forget who would do this, but could you please have the housekeeper or nanny sew it on? :love2:

Love Ya!

Still waiting for those documents. I keep looking out the window for any type of mail truck, UPS or Fed Ex truck to pass by. It really is like waiting for water to boil.

I think nametags are a good idea when we first see each other since we have no idea what anyone looks like. 4 weeks from today we will sailing in clear blue water while our children hopefully are playing nicely in the club and lab. I hope to be reading a nice book or sleeping in a recliner in the sun (well, maybe the shade).

Robyn

DisneyDad...These staff problems lead me to believe that maybe you don 't pay very well. :confused3 I'll see what I can do!!

Robyn...I sure hope so!!! :sunny:

Suzanne

The only thing worse than watching out the window for the mail is being stuck at work and not being home for it if it does come!

I know you and Andy have done the Eastern before. In St Maarten is Front St close enough to the pier to walk to? I want to go to the Guavaberry Emporium for "unique" gifts. Thanks for any help you can give. :goodvibes

OK... I think the votes are in .....

We have .... (drum roll please)..... 2 neutral votes ..... (not counting the DIS folks who choose not to express an opinion - or those who were not lurking this weekend)...... and we have 3 votes for the SECRET DECK 7 "rock star veranda" (ala GDL).... and I think we have 8 votes for Prominade. I did not double check whether anyone voted twice OR if anyone created new screen identities to influence the final tally .... except I noticed purly by accident that ONE DISer (idnetity kept secret to avoid public outcry) did change their vote once. :rolleyes1

:cheer2: At any rate.... by popular FREE vote the teaming masses of DIS leadership have spoken and we shall set our gathering for 3PM in the promenade. (cut drum roll please... and now trumpet blaring hoots begin!!!) ... and following the expected 4PM life boat drill we will continue our little shin-dig on the deck 7 secret veranda. :cheer2:

I was BLOCKED from posting the URL link to sites that posted photos and descriptions of the secret veranda and the leading to it. In an earlier posting I tried to get around the block and sort of described the site name... So try googling it or if anyone wants the actual link can try a private DIS message to me OR you are invited to email us at MAGIC4XTC@hotmail.com. Ya like my address? Bet ya can't guess how I came up with that one, eh? :wizard:

Of course - we will post some sort of sign on the door leading to the secret deck 7 veranda. It will probably say something appropriate like "Private DIS party in progress - entry permitted only if you bring your own keg(s), water balloons and pyrotechnics". OK... maybe we'll just use something simpler and less descript. Say we tape a huge red "X" across the door to "mark the entry spot"? OK... maybe we should put someone ELSE in charge of marking the door. My methods are likely to get the whole lot of us ejected from the ship. Especially if they catch us setting up our pyrotechnics BEFORE we slip away! :hyper2:

Now ... everyone knows I'm just kidding about the togas... kegs.... fireworks and such... right? But if anyone wants a vote on the toga party notion let's see if we get a "2nd" to the notion. LOL! :rotfl:

BTW... there is also a deck 8 secret over look veranda... but it is probably much too small for even half our number! So if you walk to the aft of deck 8 you might be able to "spy" on us who are on deck 7. OR... maybe we could launch our pyrotechnics off the deck 8 secret veranda?!

We can finalize the group break-outs for internet at the Promenade gathering. I think we'll have 2 groups of 3 or 4 families. If anyone missed the DIS meet then just look one of us up when you get aboard and we'll just add your name into an account and route the additional funds to the correct cabins to make things fair and square.

Now... I have to confess - I had a couple of questions? What are the water balloons for? Now who wrote about that??? And with Mom2Boyz and DDJax... what's with the tailoring? You folks must be local friends, eh? Cuz if not... then I have some light tailoring I need help with and I might want to get a quote or something like that?!! LOL! :rolleyes1

Gotta get back to stalking our poor mail and FedEX people - no docs yet.... and no pirate stuff either - my spouse didn't care for the "tastless" pirate garb listed on Ebay.... you know... the stuff that looks like it would arrive in a plain brown package? SO now... I'm back to hunting for "conventional" pirate garb. Plus we have yet to come up with a packing list that some folks have admitted to... which - BTW - is a really good idea. We usually wing the packing thing a few days before departure and we alyways miss a thing or two.

BTW... did anyone have some sticky name tags they could contribute? If not I might be able to dig some up.

:hourglass OK.... counting the days down.... and I think everything major is planned and provided for ... except maybe our DOCS.

Lisa - yes...it's not too bad, of course we're the crazy people that walked back from the shopping area in St Thomas to the pier. :teeth:

If you are a Jimmy Buffet fan, or buying a gift for any Parrothead, there is a cool store Last Mango in Paradise that is near the Guavaberry store.

Ginny

Ginny - Last Mango in Paradise -- is that in St. Martin? If so, we were there in 2001. The owner of the shop told us he is a friend of Jimmy's, he and Jimmy hung out a lot, he is a godfather to Jimmy's oldest child, and the wives were friends back in the states.

Thanks everyone for voting for the air conditioned Promenade Lounge for our initial DIS meet. If you are assigned to deck 4 in the hot sun for the approximnately 10 minute 4pm life boat drill, it gets extremely hot out there with your life jacket on and the numbers of people. We've only been inside for one drill out of six cruises. Of course, I'm assuming that my DH and I have a stateroom assigned to deck 4.

In a race to see who's documents arrive first....the winner is...

DME tags arrived yesterday and still no sign of DCL docs.

I hope that DME does as good a job at getting us (and out bags) to the hotel quickly. Just 23 days until we leave for WDW!

Jan: Good news!! You will be inside this time at AP!!! Deck 7 aft goes there!

Still no docks! :confused3

Captain, I don't think you can afford her. She can be kind of high maintenance! I thought you knew that Mom2boyz was my DW! :love2: We have a joke in our house about the domestic help. She's the nanny, the housekeeper, the chauffer, the tutor, and the weekday cook. I'm the yard boy, the maintenance man, the financial planner, the weekend chef, and most important, the travel agent.

I might be able to help with the name tags. I have a box in a filing cabinet here at work. I have a mail merge already set up. I don’t mind doing it if someone has a list of DISers already put together. I can even put a DCL watermark on them so we look really official!

pirate: Both boys now have pirate costumes! I looked on Oriental Trading Company for some miscellaneous pirate stuff, found some cheap eye patches and tattoos. I'll be happy to pass out the extras to fellow DISers. Besides, what am I going to do with 44 extra eye patches and 70+ tattoos? We also bought some glow stuff at the dollar store for the kids and their new friends on board.

Are any "grown-ups" (I use the term loosely) wearing pirate costumes? I found some pretty cool stuff at Party City. I might need a little help from Captain Morgan to get in it! :rotfl2:

OK. I now have my morning fix… :cool1:

Counting the days... :bounce:

DisneyDadJax,

I don't know about thre rest of my party, but I'm planning on wearing my pirate costume...I'm not sure if I really qualify as a "grown-up" though...not sure that I'm ready for that yet. :o

Jan,
Yes, it's in St Martin. I love browsing around in there. I didn't know about the Buffett connection, but that's really cool.

Ginny

frank, i'm growing older, but not up, so i'll be doing pirate gear again this trip. except i might look a little more like the pirates that inhabited gorda cay 30 - 40 years before castaway cay era. i do need to find a new parrot for my shoulder, last year's party city model shed all his feathers (too much suitcase time, i suspect).

if we are deck 7 midships where is our drill? and to which side do we pass the wonder on saturday night? seems like it was starboard, but i can't remember.

just a quick excursion question, has anyone done rental cars in st thomas or st john, does it make sense to take the passenger ferry over to st john then rent the car or rent on st thomas and take the car ferry over. i noticed that the rental prices are cheaper at cruz bay and paying for the ferry seemed cheaper, but do we have to get to red hook either way, if so then we might want to rent the car on st thomas.

still waiting on docs here. i may call dvc ms tomorrow and see if they have gone out and if i can get a tracking number. dw is beginning to ask where they are.

don't know how many of us will come to the meet, depends on how fast ds can get in the mickey pool, or maybe i should say how long we can put him off, but i'll be there and i think dw will be there, she wants to hook up with the lab girls.
