I haven't had much time to spend online since returning from our September To Remember trip to Disney. Now that I can sit still I thought I would share our experiences.
We had a great time. The whole trip was as magical as ever. I did regret doing it in September because it rained a lot. I think it was every single afternoon for awhile. It was nice because it forced us to take a break and relax but I really did miss the Christmas decorations. We usually go in December but this year my husband was not going to be able to get vacation in December.
On the morning of Sept 11th we were to check out. We showered and were on our way to check our bags while the terror attacks were starting. We checked our bags, had breakfast, and jumped on the bus to the MK. As we were riding we overheard someone talking about a plane crash in New York. I was scared because I hated flying anyway and we were due at the airport that evening. We walked around the park and did notice that the cast members were acting strange. Even now we can't pinpoint it but there was something there. We were in line for Winnie The Pooh and heard the entire scoop from the people behind us. We went on the ride and then went right to a payphone to call home and get the details. My husbands uncle said, "You guys aren't coming home tonight."
WE booked it from Tomorrow Land to the buses and got on, never moved so fast in all my life. As we boarded the bus they made the announcement to close the parks and weren't letting anyone OFF the buses. Our bus went right to the hotel and we got in line at guest services. The woman we dealt with was amazing. She gave us the same room back and was so helpful. She also told us that all long distance calls were free from the resort. We went back to our rooms and called everyone while watching the horror on tv.
Although the parks were closed Disney still amazed us. They brought in tons of food from the parks (filet mignon at the All Stars? Yep!) clowns, characheters, magicians, a dj, and all sorts of things. I was so amazed by the way they made sure people were still happy. They even upgraded rooms for people and sent them to Wilderness and Contemporary....
The next couple of days were confusing... but eventually we decided to rent a car and drive home to MA. We were supposed to fly into Logan and that just wasn't going to happen any time soon. We checked out and the CM told us that there had been no charge for the room. We had stayed two nights and there was no charge? She just smiled and said, "Walt Disney was a true patriot. It wouldn't be patriotic for us to charge you." WOW!
We rented the car from the National on property and were on the road. I was only too glad to be getting home but now I wish I could be back! It tooks us two days to get home and we were exsausted. But we were safe... and our friends and family were too. I hope you all were as lucky.
Trying to scheme my way into my next trip...
