September 29,2013 - DVC Member Cruise

My husband and I have been on a few different cruises and cruise lines, (NCL, Carnival, Princess and some that no longer exisist!) As for DCL, we have done 2-7 night, a 5-night, and a 2-night weekend getaway this past summer on the Magic, now that was short!!:lmao: We are looking forward to this, and we know it is going to fly by, but since we are not taking the children with us, we will be able to relax a little quicker then if they were there!!:rotfl2:
I am going to find a lounge chair at Quiet Cove pool on Sunday and stay there until we dock again Thursday!! :beach:

FYI QUIET COVE IS A LOT BUSIER ON A MEMBER CRUISE THAN A REGULAR CRUISE. ON MEMBER CRUISE THERE ARE USUALLY ONLY ABOUT 200 KIDS. REGULAR BETWEEN 1000 to 1500. SO, SUNDAY MAY BE THE LAST REALLY QUIET DAY AT QUIET COVE. UNLESS YOU GO THERE ON THE DAYS WE ARE AT CC. HERE IS 2 PHOTOS IVE TAKEN OF QUIET COVE ON BOTH REGULAR CRUISE AND MEMBER CRUISE.
BUT WE DO HAVE A LOT OF FUN AT THE QUIET COVE POOL WITH A BEACHBALL.

I am sorry if I gave the impression that I was looking for "quiet" at the Quiet Cove pool, I was just looking to relax with NO CHILDREN at the the pool!!! Our kids never really took to the kids clubs, and to my husband and I, we were on a family vacation, so whatever the kids wanted to do,go to the pool, the shows, etc. we did, so we spent very little time in any of the 'Adult Only' areas.

THE ADULTS ONLY AREA ON THE DISNEY SHIPS IS FOR BIG KIDS AT HEART IN ADULT BODIES:rotfl2::cool1:

Are you saying that most members get off the ship on Castaway Cay days and the adult pool is quiet? I was wondering about that. How about the family pools, are they less crowded than a typical cruise?

JohnnyQuest - So fill us in on all the tasty tidbits you've been indulging in while on your "solo" excursions.... Poor PI, stuck in those boring seminars all day :sad1:

Just got home from the World, so I'm catching up on the thread.

Each morning (because I care) I got up and escorted my wife over to the convention center to keep her company during the complimentary continental breakfast, after which I took my solo excursions to various parks, making sure to return at 11:45am so she wouldn't get lonely during the free lunch.

Tuesday I walked to Epcot, purchased our Premium Annual Passes(DVC discount) and rode Test Track which was the very same ride with new themeing and lighting. :confused3

Wednesday was the Studios where I rode R&R (front row/no wait), toured the park a little, then sat in the hot tub at Yacht Club for a while. Christine joined me later.

Thursday was a little rainy so I walked over to the BWV and relaxed. When Poison was done, we went to the Magic Kingdom where I had a huge cinnamon roll at the Main Street Bakery.

I think I've had more sugar this week than I nomally have in a month. We had lunch today at the new Be Our Guest restaurant and loved it. The food was very good.

All in all, I don't enjoy doing Disney solo very much at all. Much more fun with Poison Ivy.

the beach at serenity bay is busier. The family beach is less crowded. But when we were there 2 weeks ago laura and i went snorkling on family beach and found there was a good crowd but not crowded. The only day its really busy at the pools would be sea day.this past members cruise we only had 2500 total on the cruise, so 1 whole dining rotation was shut down.

Note to self: avoid quiet cove pool on At Sea Day!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

wow! dvc deernut that's quite the pool scene! When was that picture taken?
I'm really glad you have been on so many member cruises.

I'd love some adult pool time but truthfully can't imagine us in there fighting for a spot! So I guess we'll have to plan accordingly. I wonder how many will disembark on the 1st CC day compared to the 2nd?

whoa!!! sounds like somebody's a little knee deep in pixie dust over here!!

So what are you doing with the kids while you're on the cruise? We always used to cave and take them with us no matter what the trip.

Now I really feel unappreciated...I wore my best "accountant" outfits and risked getting caught by the convention police...for what? My only true goal on this trip was to go to Splitsville(new bowling alley at pleasure island) and when we finally got there it wasn't open yet!

I don't care how crowded the Castaway beaches get... I'm getting a Cabana for one of the beach days and on the other one we might just get lunch then go back to the ship, unless they serve the same lunch on both days, then we'll probably eat on the ship too.

My sister is going to stay with my kids. We will not cave and bring them since it is the beginning of the school year, they are not happy. We have another cruise booked and they are in on that one.

Hello everyone!

New to this thread, but not to DISboards. I'm usually on the DL side of DISboards.

Anywho...booked a DVC Member cruise on the 9th. Yes folks I was up at 4:30am to be sure I was wide awake and coherent when I made the call to MS. I dialed straight at 5 am (cell phone time) and had to keep calling until I was put on hold at 5:30 am. Finally was able to talk to someone at 6 am.

Booked cat 5A room 10000 for Hubby and me only. Planing on staying at WDW for three days before we board. Haven't picked out the resort yet.

Maryrn11168, we are leaving the kids at home, too. But for a very good reason.

This is our first Disney cruise. Therefore, our first DVC Member Cruise, Why a DVC Member Cruise for our first Disney cruise experience? Well...our 20th Wedding Anniversary is next year, and I wanted to do something big to celebrate such an important milestone. When I got the post card announcement in the mail, I was about to throw it away, when I looked at the dates of the cruise. Our wedding anniversary day falls on one of the cruise days. Got me thinking. To be on a Disney cruise on our actual anniversary could be very special. And it is a DVC Member cruise (something on my bucket list BTW). Hubby does not like to fly, but he might for this occasion. When I asked him what he thought about going on this cruise for our anniversary, pointing out we would have to fly to get to Florida, he didn't hesitate, "I'll fly for for our 20th" was his response. I married a gem.

The kids are teenagers and in high school. They can manage on their own. In fact, they didn't mind at all when we told them our plans and they were not going. Can't figure out kids these days. Preferring to stay home without the parents for 8 days and skipping out on vacationing with the parental units. Geez what goes on in their heads I'll never know. :rotfl2:

So the planning has started. Hubby even said he is looking forward to going. Already learn somethings on this thread thanks to dvc deernut.

First thing is to work on a vacation ticker. "How more days until we go?" she wonders.

So glad to be on this cruise! This will be my 3rd (and DD's 2nd) but our first DVC Member Cruise.

We are in 9052

Margot and Samantha. :wave2:

Now to update the trackers....

Henlady: It was a wonderful relief to finally get the new we are back onboard. We will not be leaving our kids home but bringing the whole family. This is our yearly family adventure (and thanks to Dreamer for inviting us along) and it was very disappointing when we thought it had been cancelled. My baby boy just turned 17 this past Friday so they aren't really "kids".
However I am hoping there will be some young teenagers on board since all 3 of his sisters will be over 21.

JQ: I am beginning to think if there is food involved you'll be there. But we wives appreciate you being able to take time out of your busy lounging time to join us for free food. You have a lot in common with Ken. I always wanted to stay in the treehouse. We almost did 2 yrs ago when the Crazy8 stayed at SarSprings. We had a 2 bdrm villa booked and silly me asked when we got there if we could be upgraded to a treehouse. They said "well you have all ready be upgraded to a Grand Villa, are you sure you'd want to do that?" Heck no! It was perfect. The kids (or should I say young adults) where so excited. They will always be little children at heart when it comes to Disney. Such a magical moment. 6 kids jumping up and down in the lobby.

mrtobias: we have four cabins at the front of deck 9 and one in the middle. I am sure we will be bumping into each other. We tend to travel in a pack.

Let the excitement start to built...

Crazy8ma: That's a great story. Never been upgraded to a GV but we have booked a few at BWV on points.

But let me just say, from one Ft Wilderness alum to another, you would love the treehouse!!! We stayed there only once back in 2011 (on Iron Man's cm discount) and have wanted to get back there ever since. It's nothing like the GV.
First, you're in the woods! Second, you're up in the trees! Third, you have your own little house with your own little charcoal grill! Every morning, we sat on our balcony surrounded by little modular huts! All the paths are illuminated at night. So beautiful.

RE: The Treehouses

And let me just add, we were there during Easter and I made a fantastic Easter breakfast with all the fixins right down to homemade buttermilk pancakes. :thumbsup2
We also used the grill to make a tremendous grilled steak dinner. We ate like kings.

When you stay there you don't feel like you're in Disney... It's quiet and serene. Then you hear a Friendship boat chugging up the canal arriving to take you to Downtown. Crap, wish I was there now!

Crazy8Ma: When I'm there, I turn into a kid in a candy store...I really enjoy Disney food. ::yes::

HERES A FUNNY STORY ABOUT THE 2011 MEMBER CRUISE.

THEY HAD A DRY ERASE BOARD ON THEIR DOOR. ALONG WITH MANY ON DECK 6. ONE OF THE SPECIAL GUESTS THAT YEAR WAS THE REAL KERMIT THE FROG. WE WERE TALKING TO STEVEs(kermit) SISTER IN LAW ON SERENITY BAY BEACH. SHE TOLD US STEVE WAS GOING TO GO AROUND DECK 6 AND SIGN ALL THE DRY ERASE BOARDS (kermit the frog was here). SO AT DINNER THAT NIGHT I ASKED MICHELLE IF KERMIT HAD SIGNED THEIR BOARD. SHE SAID YES AND SAID TO ME IN A CERTAIN WAY, WAS THAT YOU!! THEN TOLD ME SHE ERASED IT. I STARTED TO SNICKER AND TOLD HER NO, IT REALLY WAS STEVE(kermit) SHE SCREAMED:rotfl2: AND MADE ME GO GET THE BOOK THEY GAVE US(its not easy being green) HE PERSONALLY SIGNED FOR LAURA AND I. WE TOOK A PHOTO OF THAT:rotfl2: SHE LOVES KERMIT.
MARK AND MICHELLE ALONG WITH DAVE AND LAUREN(our tablemates) WILL BE ON THE SEPT MEMBER CRUISE AGAIN WITH US.

BY THE WAY IM THE ONE WHO STUCK THE eh! SIGNS ON THEIR DOOR:cool1::rotfl2:
