September 29, 2012 - Ropin' Some Magic in the Western Caribbean

It is done. If you are participating in more than one group, only enter your information ONE time!!

If something needs changing, let me know.

I'm not intimidated by all of you organized people who already have your FE gifts completed or started 70 days out. :worship:

No, I'm not intimidated, but just a wee bit jealous. ::yes:: Gratefully, my DIL has offered to sew the FE's for our cabins and my other DIL will also help with the gifts. With so many locals on the thread, we'll have to see how many similar items we end up with. I'm using my 21 DS to help me figure out the gifts for the preteens and teenagers. Now if I could just take vacation from work so that I can work on my vacation preparations, I'd be better prepared.

I have our Grand Cayman excursion covered (planning ahead some :) ). We are going on the same private charter for stingrays and snorkeling that we used in 2009. I'm still working out the beach plans for Costa Maya and Cozumel. The thrill seeker children (adults) are looking for jet skis and parasailing. I'm a bit worried about parasailing, but I spent time looking online to research :surfweb: the risks involved with the private operators. Our "kids" are adults, so I don't really get to vote, but I'll know how to pray while I'm waiting on the beach with the grandkids ;)

We've already planned (I guess I do plan afterall :scratchin) our shirts for embarkation and a family photo op, so we won't be wearing the iron on transfer the day we leave Galveston, but I really like what Piper sent. What a great mascot for this cruise!

I do have questions about how the FE gifts work:

  • My understanding is that we can give a gift to each person in the cabin or give a cabin gift. Is there an expectation of one or the other?
  • Do we decide on our own which day we are going to deliver our gifts?
  • Is there an agreement to be sure to deliver before the last night?

Looking forward to getting to know you all better as we get closer to September. :goodvibes

Looking at the spreadsheet I noticed that poluwaifam is down to 2 people in their group. When I first looked at it they had 3...Just checking on the numbers.

I'm so excited! I've almost finished my FE and I just found some really cool FE gifts! :cool1:

I have discovered a problem with using Red Shirts. Most ink-jet printers will not print white, thus Mickey's eyes, hat, and face will be tinted the color of the shirt, ie red.

For this reason, if we are going to use the Cowboy Mickey, we may have to use white shirts. :(

EDIT: They do make "Dark T-shirt Transfers that provide a white background to print on. This would work.

I was also a little concerned about the size of the GREAT design that Piper came up with, so I modified it a bit for myself. I made the image larger (still fits on an 8.5" x 11" iron on transfer) and added Western Caribbean. Since it is now an image, the ROPE font will remain, even if you don't have that font installed on your computer. Everyone is welcome to use it.

Piper, I really hope you don't mind. :) Here it is for preview:

That is correct, In post #426, Piper posted that someone dropped out of group 3!!

That looks great - except the date! Shouldn't it be Sept 29? :)

Thank YOU, I kept looking, I knew something was off!!! :confused3

My wife caught it immediately as well! I guess it is for the best that I left work early tonight, as I REALLY shouldn't be making critical decisions right now. Obviously!!! :lmao:

Glad I could provide comedic relief for everyone. :rotfl2:

I am just trying to make it come faster!

There are now 13 cabins on the first 3 FE groups. I just added group numbers above the groups and closed the third group. If you want to be added to group 4 please PM me or post here.

Piper you are amazingly organized - thank you so much for keeping the group organized as well!

I'm just about done with the FE gifts for adults. They are hand made and practical :) I'm hoping to get started on the kids gifts some time next week. I have something special planned for the teen girls and still deciding on what to give the teen boy in my group??

I think I'm more excited than my little girl... We're finally down to 10 weeks before we begin our vacation!

I also, just purchased my fabric to begin our Fish Extender... so much to do!

10 weeks!!! pixiedust:Need some fast hands!

Oh dear, will have to look - Poluwaifam is certainly 3 - DD would love to bring along cat, but, alas, I don't think Disney Cruise Line would be too appreciative! Thanks for mentioning it, will check and correct as necessary.:surfweb:

Looks like there is some serious fun going on in the group!

For the FE's, up to you to do one cabin gift, gift the kids only or ??

Yes, decide whichever day is best for you.

Way better to deliver prior to the last night in my personal opinion :)

Just to let you know that I suggested using the transfers for dark fabric. I have found that they are much better quality. I made the size so that 2 transfers would fit on an 8 1/2 X 11 sheet of the transfer paper. This way those adults who won't wear a really large transfer (my sister) and children should be able to fit it on their shirts. A large transfer doesn't work well on small shirts. I also put a border around it to make it look more finished.

With that being said--I have no problems with anyone changing the design. The only reason I made one in the first place was because no one else did and we had mentioned matching shirts.

Feel free to customize it to your own tastes!

I also second delivering before the last night as everything must be packed up by then and additional suitcases put out in the hall for customs. Remember to save whatever you packed the gifts you are bringing in so that you will have something to use to take them home!!

I agree the FE gifts should be delivered before the last night. Having never done this before, I wasn't sure if people tend to distribute the gifts in the first couple of days, or if the giving tends to spread out throughout the week.

I thought my four year old grandson, maybe even the two year old, might have so much fun finding FE gifts that this Nana should consider taking a few "spare" FE gifts to fill in if need be :)

Great! I kind of figured you weren't going to leave your daughter home! I guess a line probably just got accidentally deleted or something.

Funny about your daughter and the cat...my daughter said the same thing. She wants to take our cat. :)
