September 29, 2007 - Magic

Groovy, you probably already know this, but just in case... MNSSHP is in the evening at MK. If you go to MK or one of the other WDW parks during the day, you have to buy separate, special tickets just for MNSHHP. I didn't realize that at first and thought I could use a Park Hopper in the day and then stay at MK in the evening for the party. Luckily, I read the DIS boards before I bought the park hopper. :disrocks: We opted for doing just MNSSHP and spending the day in our hotel pool and Downtown Disney.

Thanks for the tip Tink's Mama! So there is a separate entrance fee to the MNSSHP.. do u know how much? Do they sell out or can we just get them when we're there?

I think I will have to bring an over the door hanger then.

Lanacane - I found this great sunburn/pain reliever when we were in hawaii.. we tried aloe too but aloe u have to apply with your fingertips to the sunburn, this one u just spray.

JD: I thought about getting just a mat for autographs too, but with the 50% off sale at michaels the 16x20 w/ an 8x11 photo was just $14.99 and the smaller version was only $7.99.

When you drop off the autograph mats, do you include a tip?? and do they ever get them dirty or smudged?

I told my DD that we have 25 more days to go before we go to WDW and on our cruise.. and she shrieked!!! with happiness of course! Now.. if we can only get through my baby's first day of preschool.......:sad1:

Looks like my list.. except for the detergent part, I don't PLAN to do laundry  ... maybe dryer sheets to keep the dresser drawer smelling nice.
Here's my list: lysol, advil, dramamine (non drowsy & children's), nausea patch (I still have to go to my Dr.), ginger tea, benadryl, immonium ad, cold medicine, small emergency kit, antibacterial gel/wipes, personal toiletries, HAIR STRAIGHTENER, hair dryer, curling iron, sunscreen, favorite perfume, and I won't ever ever forget to bring lanicane (sp?) for sunburn!!! (lanicane is the one that u spray on so u won't have to touch your raw.. eeeewww sunburned skin).

Groovy...we didn't PLAN on doing laundry either on our last cruise. That is until DD threw up all over DH on formal night!!!! Laundry became a priority because I wasn't willing to throw his dress shirt and pants away.

Also, stupid question...but what is with the ginger on everyone's list? Sorry...I have my dumb hat on...what do tell, what is the purpose? I certainly don't want to be without it if it has some great benefit that I'm not aware of!!!

Laundry: That's exactly what my DH told me.. so I dont PLAN on doing it, but I may have to... I think also those who do laundry are the ones who spend a week or so at WDW before the cruise.

Ginger: they say that it's a good remedy for motion sickness, so I'm bringing every possible remedy that I could think of.. don't want to ruin my "cruise" experience especially it's my first one ;)

We will be at MNSSHP on the 28th also!! Can't wait it will be our first one!

I do plan on doing laundry because we have two pre and two post day at WDW and i don't have a suitcase big enough for all the clothes I would need. Was just in our local Target and picked up travel sized Tide liqid detergent for $0.99, it says it does four loads.

SueRS, my sister(Pooh667) and I have glow sticks with lanyards (so they can be worn as a necklace) and a pirate skull gummy for the goodie bags. Thanks for keeping the list!

I'm allergic to Tide. :sad1: I saw that bottle too!! That's a great deal, $.99 and it does 4 loads. I wish I wasn't allergic to Tide:mad: , it would make things easier for me right now!!

hey jd, I just buy any kind of powder and measure it in a baggie, then i throw in some softener sheets, I've done this for years since we have timeshare with washers and dryers, it is a whole lot cheaper, then leave the rest at home.

I thought of that but we use liquid soap and I think even if I were to double bag the soap, it would still leak out. DH is going to a laundromat next week to buy soap from them. I found a place on line to buy All detergent but they wanted to charge me $10 shipping for my $1.65 purchase. :confused3

Here is my door sign so far.... I still have to "tweak" my DD's birthday door sign.

I don't know why it's not very clear.. must be my scanner..

Thanks JD!!! I'm not that artistic, so I just do what I can... I'm working on my DD's birthday door sign.. so far I have 3 the (1) lime green mickey head that GG made for me (TY), (2) and (3) DD's birthday sign.

Would anyone else post theirs????? That way, I can get "ideas" :thumbsup2

A couple of laundry tips that I have found to be very handy are:

I take the spring type pop up hamper and put it under the sink in the bathroom or in the bottom of the closet. It folds to next to nothing for travel.

And for detergent, I use liquid also but I save the empty small dishwashing liquid bottles and mark on the bottle lines for each measure of detergent. These bottles as well as clear shampoo bottles have worked great for me over the years. I always, of course, put them in a ziploc bag just to be sure.

I also take our own floats for CC and these are the folding spring type as well. They are lightweight and very easy to get upon while in the water. They do rent lounging floats on CC though. These are a little hard to get on.

I do have the pop up laundry hamper and it's on my list of things to bring. The tip about dishwashing soap bottles and laundry soap is genius!

I just re-read your post and you are a genius!!!! I finally caught the part about shampoo bottles. DH travels for work and brings home all the little toiletries bottles. I can empty those and refill them with our laundry soap!! You are a genius!!! I just told DH we can not go on any vacations that I can't find a board to help me plan!!!! If you were here right now, I'd hug you!!

I do have a float like the one you mentioned but I think DH will blow a gasket if I pack it. :furious: He's already giving me a lot of grief about the stuff I've said we have to pack. And I don't want to be "that" family at the airport scrambling to distribute weight because they packed too much!! :sad2: I've spent a lot of time at our airport and have watched many a frantic family do this and it looks very stressful. It's probably good we're not within driving distance of the cruise terminal or DH may be in danger of needing to rent a UHAUL to get us there!!!

Let me know when you all are ready to compare "don't forget to pack lists".

Budget has dropped their rates on rentals from MCO to Cape Canaveral. Previously my best rate for an on-airport (with Cape Canaveral location) rental was Avis for ~$34 (plus taxes and fees). I checked today and the rate had dropped to ~$33 so I made a new reservation and cancelled my old one. Budget had previously been in the ~$60 range if I remember right.

For kicks and giggles I checked the rates at Budget using the Costco discount code of W852802 and was pleasantly surprised when a $23.90 rate (plus taxes and fees) came up for both a standard or fullsize vehicle. Costco also has a coupon (you just print out the page) that also gives you a free one-class upgrade up to a maximum premium (Mercury Grand Marquis or similar) car class. You will probably have to show your Costco membership card at time of rental. This was for pickup on 9/28 at 10:00 PM and dropoff at Cape Canaveral at 12:00 PM on 9/29. Prior to reserving I also signed up for their Fastbreak service which allows you to use a special line (usually no one or just a few people in line) and you only have to show your driver's license. Last time we went on a DCL cruise we waited in the Budget line for ~45 minutes. Fastbreak service will hopefully speed that time up.

Avis was still cheaper for the rental on Oct 6 from Cape Canaveral to MCO (~$44).

If you have a Costco membership, check it out.

JD: We were that family just last month!:headache: .. luckily I only had to reach for my toiletry bag and transferred it to the other luggage.. but YES it's a hassle! My solution is to take a smaller luggage (is it 28"?? what's the bigger one?) that way, I don't overpack.

Phred: Thanks for the reminder about getting to and from the port.. I'll have to book our transportation soon. We're going with a towncar pick up, it's cheaper for us and less hassle.

Ok.. checking my "dress" list.. I'm bringing 3 dresses, (1) formal night (2) Palo dinner (3) semi-formal is this right???

24 more days until we get on that plane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yay:

JL: Thank you sooooo much for that advice on the KTTW card. I don't think I will let DD3 have one.. I didn't even think about her using mine and it would be ok for her to sign it?? She's been able to write her name for a few months now and she's so proud (I'm even more so) of it.

I'm DONE with 1 of my door signs!! I'll post it as soon as I buy a color cartridge for my printer..:cool1:

Gr00vyChc :hippie:

When she wants to sign for her own purchases, ask the CM if that is OK or if an adult must sign ALSO. Either way she will feel very grown up and it does make sense that sometimes in life, we need a grown-up to be a partner!

Glad you are having fun with the door signs!

I am waking up to such good tips and advice. We bring our own masks and snorkels. May I ask how those of you who bring your own floats inflate them ? That's a lot of blowing up to do and I get a headache when I do that. Do you bring a pump ?
I use the powder detergent in a ziplock bag, but the liquid detergent idea is a good one !

phred....thanks so much on the head's up with Budget ! Going to check now ! For that Costco code, do u need to be a customer ? Show ID ? I'm not a member, but have one right down the street I may be checking out today !

They may or may not ask for your Costco membership card at the time of rental.

I can't believe you have one just down the street and you're not a member!!! Ours is 30 minutes away and I gladly make the trip just to browse around. Plus, you can return anything (other than computers and TVs which have a 90 day return--but they extend the manufacturers warranty for an extra year) if you are ever not satisfied. And their gas prices are typically about $.12 to $.15 cheaper per gallon than where we live.

TheDawnPatrol says :Late entry here, but count four more in for the Sept 29 cruise. My wife (38), me (36), and our two boys (7&6). Our littlest one (1 yr daughter) is skipping this one and is spending time with Grandmom and Granddad.

We are all excited about the cruise. This is our first cruise in a bit (2005 4 day DCL), and the first 7 day trip with our boys.

See you all onboard!
