September 22, 2007 -- WESTERN

thanks Karen
Oh Pal has his own swim trunks, surf board, beach towel, and on the Sept cruise Minnie will be joining him. She too will have her own surf set LOL.

I appreciate the hugs and pixie dust. I may have mobility difficulties but as stubborn as I am, i tend to find ways to do whatever I want LOL. My doctors call me a stubborn b....... as I try to keep going as best as possible.

I actually manage very well considering this disease just hit me in 2004. I believe I am where I am to be, take each day as it comes, and believe at looking at the positives (of course sometimes that's not easy).

Since I was able to get in the water at CC, oh and I got in the adult pool on ship, i will find a way to snorkel if I still am wanting to do this by time we cruise.

Just remember when you see a middle aged woman in a power chair with a Pal Mickey and a plush Minnie dressed up in my lap, the chair decorated with disney stuff, that I really don't belong in the "nut" house, I just am enjoying life. I figured enjoy what I have now, enjoy what I can do, have fun even if looks silly to others, who cares, at least I am having fun, laughing, smiling, and sometimes can help others laugh or smile too. I get a kick out of helping others laugh, smile and have fun being silly too. <G>

Brady.... Snorkeling is one of the things that our family really looks forward to on any trip that brings us close enough to warm water.... That being said we've done it at both the snorkel lagoon on CC and from the adult beach on CC. We always bring our own equiptment...for a varitey of reasons. 1. It ends up being cheeper for us since we snorkel in multiple ports (so with only doing it at CC depending on where you get your gear could be about the same or a little less. They have some nicer sets at Costco right now for adults for about $40) 2. Germs...I'm a little germaphobic...so I don't care for the idea of having a mouth peice in my mouth that's been in a strangers mouth.... Somethign to do with the thought of all that sliva from there mouth now being in my mouth really gags me. They do clean them. With what....I have no idea....but they do get cleaned after each use. Now for you you'll want to consider the extra distance it takes to get the snorkel gear. I know walking a long ways in sand isn't easy for anyone so I can imagine with your condition you'd want to shortest path possiable. You have to go over to the rental shack (I forget the name of it)...but anyways...it is a good length walk through the sand away from the snorkel area. Knowing Disney you may very well be able to arrange for your snorkel set to be delived to you somewhere. (something worth checking into if you opt not to get your own). Now the con for brining your own set...is just that having to bring your own set. There awkardly shaped and take up a good amount of space in the luggage. If it wasn't for the germ issue or the fact that it saves us a great deal of $ not renting at each port we'd opt to not pack them. Another idea if the the germ thing freaks anyone else out...is just bringing the snorkel...then renting the fins and mask. BUT...keep in mind that most masks fit diffrently so while one may give you a great seal the next one might leak. And having a leaky mask is a real bummer. By getting your own you can test it at home to make sure it seals well..(just an idea).

I think if you make it out to snorkel you'll love it. The weightlessness of your body in the salt water...and the ablity to move fairly freely. I hope your able to give it a try. :wizard:

Marsha, my wife says that the only thing she can wear from Victoria's Secret is the lotion.:lmao: :lmao: :rotfl2: Mike

WOW great info again thanks. I have a close friend that had done several DCL cruises and she brings her own snorkel gear. I need to call her as I know she can offer me info as well esp since she knows my limits, what can or cant do etc.... Plus talk with DCL.

the germaphobia little creepy to me too. i am sure they bleach and steralize but still ewwwwwww. I would never go bowling cause I wouldn't wear their shoes and didn't want to put my fingers in the bowling balls. LOL.

I am going to think, consider, ask more, etc.... about this possibility for me at CC.

you guys are great at offering info, input etc... its greatly appreciated.

Thanks

ok i know someone said something about Victoria Secret in a post somewhere, but wasn't me :goodvibes

I doubt they even carry anything in my size :rotfl2:

Now is your wife saying she only wears lotion??????:rotfl:

My DH has just flown to Orlando for a few days and I'm very jealous! He's staying in the Ritz-Carlton which looks a lovely hotel and did I mention that I am v-e-r-y jealous!!??

So I'm stuck here with my Old English Sheepdog and deaf Dalmatian - plus DS21 (how could I forget him?!) who's home until tomorrow. He's taking me to a concert tonight - Keane, a British band that I like v much so that should be fun! All in all, it's another day closer to the cruise... :thumbsup2

Bareacuda, that was hilarious! :lmao: :rotfl2:

Sorry, had to edit. I thought Brady posted the lotion question.

am i getting myself in trouble yet? <G>

bummer karen you couldn't have traveled with him. we could have gone to parks to play while he worked. then he would be jealous <G>

Sometimes I think I need to quite down... on more then one occation I've done the "foot in the mouth" trick!:lmao:

After 34 years of marriage I wish that was the only thing we could wear. Gravity and father time have not been kind to us.:rotfl2: Mike

oh how well i understand the gravity in time on one's body. doesn't seem fair does it? :rolleyes1

Ok, maybe I'll change the subject and get everyone off the hook.

There is a thread on the main board about luggage limits on DCL. I thought maybe I would ask everyone here: What type of packer are you? Do you bring everything but the kitchen sink or do you barely bring enough to make it through the week and end up doing laundry once or twice during the week?

Well, I'll answer first. I tend to be in the middle, probably leaning towards the kitchen sink person. I know I over pack, but can't seem to help it. I keep thinking that I may change my mind and want to wear something different. I usually pack nearly enough that I don't have to do laundry for two weeks, but I still do laundry a couple times the week we are at WDW. The major problem is that I don't wear at least 30% of the clothes I bring because I have may favorties that I end up wearing a couple times. If someone saw my packing list, they would be amazed that I fit it all in one bag. Mind you, one very big bag!

I am bring whatever i think i may need. In Jan I took two checked bags, and one duffle bag carry on. It ended up that I had taken the clothes that I needed, not over or not under. For me personally I seem to take what I needed, again not over or under.

My problem in Jan was I took TOO much for Pal Mickey. I had little extra stuff for him like a "parasail" kite, other little things for photo ops, or just other things that weren't like clothes, toiletries, meds, extra little things that I thought may need, or would be fun to have, fun for photo ops etc...

For Sept, most likely I can do the same for me personally as I don't plan on taking other than what I took in Jan. Now back to Pal Mickey, I won't be taking a lot of those little extra things I thought would be fun for photo ops with him. Will probably be about the same clothing for him. BUT in Sept I am taking plush Minnie with her own wardrobe. I believe though a lot of those things I took in Jan that I won't take in Sept will give me room for Minnie's stuff.

But I know me, I will overpack with some little odd things, cause I also get that thought "what if" i need this or that. It's not like if I forget or don't take something I can go to Capt and say please find the nearest walmart, target, or kmart because I need this or that LOL.

I will have the two check bags. size not sure yet.

Plus will use my DCL excursion bag I bought on Jan cruise as my carryon.

I know that I will change what I carry on this time. Of course carry on will have my meds and toiletries, and campshirt/top for dinner. But I carried a lot of things in carry on last time that I realize can go into checked two cases.

I really do hope this time to carry less in a carry on and rely more on checked bags. I imagine Pal Mickey and Minnie will have more space in no matter what bags I use/take then I get for me LOL.

Oh one thing that worked for me in Jan and works when I travel for work. Mix and match. So like in Jan, I wore capri's daily. During the day wore a polo top with the capri's. Then for dinner could wear same capri's just put on a campshirt and tank top to match for casual dinner. this way I didn't have to take 7 - 9 pair of pants/shorts. Everything I took in capri's and campshirts would mix and match. I also only took the tennis shoes I wear with braces, and a pair of disney crocs. No other shoes. Ok I wore disney crocs with my formal and semi formal outfit. But hey both were black pants and I was in a chair, so I didn't get into finding fancy shoes. Couldn't walk in them anyway <G> Oh wait i did take a pair of reef/beach shoes. Wore them only when on CC and actually threw them away after i left the beach. Didn't want to deal with sand/wet/etc... reef/beach shoes to pack or bring home.

No matter what it will appear I am bringing the kitchen sink even if I don't <G>

But then again I just may have that sink in one of the several bags or hide it in backpack that i carry on back of power chair. <G>

Eva we fall into the over packing category. I swear that this year I am only going to bring 7 sets of underwear, three sets of shorts and long pants for dinner along with 3 shirts with collars and my suit coat. Swim trunks and etc.

In one bag we bring our portable fans to run in the cabin. Love the white noise and the air stirring. Like to have the cabin cold enough to hang meat in:rotfl: If you can't see your breath then it is too hot.:rotfl2: Mike

oh something else, i love using those space bags. ya know the bags you put things into and roll the air out? those are great for like undies/socks/etc...

Also was great using that for Pal Mickey's clothes.

I didn't use them for my tops/pants as would have been more wrinkled. So tops i rolled, pants I put so could fold tops in, (hanging pants over side of suitcase, roll tops and pack, then fold ends of pants back over tops) so they wrinkled less.

i just took so many little things i know i don't need, and hopefully won't talk myself in to taking them again <G>

Mike have you seen the clip on battery (I pretty sure was battery not electric, could be wrong though) fans in shape of Mickey icon?

They are so cute, not sure how much air they flow or white noise. Haven't seen one turned on. Just think would be great to have as it clips on whatever (even a desk, arm on chair).

I travel for work and taking a small electric fan as i too like the white noise and at times want air blowing directly on my face while sleeping.

Ummm maybe should check out the mickey clip on fans. :goodvibes
