September 2011 - We are going to Disney World {THIS MONTH}! (Third Thread)

I just need to share some excitement. We only have 3 days to go!!! I surprised myself last night when I was packing. I packed everything 4 people are going to need for 10 days (with doing laundry mid-way through) in 1 large checked suitcase and 2 small carry-on suitcases! That will save us $ because AirTran charges $20 per checked bag each way. AHHHH!!! I will be in Disney World in 3 days!!!!!

Ditto this. We only have one child and we have a honda odyssey (I always have to look up how to spell that and it still doesn't look right lol) mini van and for the three of us I pack that thing to the gills lol. My husband (God bless him lol) always says "You know... they have stores where we are going. so if you forget something it's OOOOOKKKKKK"

but at least you can say I'm prepared... for a zombie apocalypse

Only 21 days here

I need to make hubby (or commission someone to make) a camoflauge hat with mickey ears for our trip. anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking of just getting some black foam paper and then just gluing it on top of the hat but I don't know if that would hold properly.

Yes, I'm pretty sure we'll have room because we won't have all the diapers, swim diapers, wipes, travel toiletries, and other disposable things coming home.

I just need to vent

I REALLY hope our next trip to Disney is just the three of us. Don't get me wrong... I love my inlaws and I'm so very thankful that we can spend this time with them and that they insist on paying. but that's a double edged sword. they INSIST on paying and that makes hubby and I feel an obligation now.

The worst part is MIL keeps calling with ideas for changing the plans that she wanted me to take charge of and make. I can't say no because I'm not paying for the trip. they are.

Now she wants to cancel going to seaworld on the friday. Ok... fine. I mean it's a bummer, DD would really enjoy it but again we aren't paying for it and they won't let us pay for it (what I mean is they insist on paying but it's going to be expensive for seaworld...we are more than willing to pay for our tickets but if we SAY that then she'll insist that we all go and they pay even though she doesn't really want to... it's needlessly complicated)

The thing is they still want to stay until Saturday and want us to stay too. But we check out of BLT on Friday (then we were going to get a room at a generic motel and do seaworld and leave saturday morning) so NOW she wants to just check into generic motel and spend the day around the room and at the pool. Well I don't know about you but that doesn't sound like much fun to me and I just don't get the point of shelling out for another room for another night just to sit around and do nothing when we could be starting the long drive home.

I know I'm being ungrateful. it's just frustrating. We have NEVER been able to go to Disney on our own just the three of us... actually it seems we never get to go anywhere just the three of us because we are always travelling to visit family (hubby's fam is in florida and mine is in canada). I'd love a trip just the three of us but then I know that's really going to upset MIL if he suggests we go on our own.

ugh I don't know. I'll get over it lol This trip is going to be great no matter what we do... or don't do.

ETA: she just emailed me about making a plan for seaworld OY VEY. I know she's only doing that because she thinks I'm bummed about not going... and I am BUT that doesn't mean I want her to do it out of obligation either. it's just a whole lot of feelings of obligation going around and it's frustrating.

Thanks for all the kind words.... I do feel my drawings have improved greatly from when I first started them. My first ones were just doodles and the numbers 119 and 116... then really started drawing at day 101 (drew a dalmation), missed a couple of days around the 90 day mark, but have not missed a single day since 87!!! I put them all in a notebook for safe keeping!!!

Starting to feel a little better... we went to Church this morning and before it was over I felt much better than before it started!! (Could hardly talk this morning).. We went to lunch and I think I overdid it, cause throat started hurting more again and started feeling puny... gonna rest this afternoon, and work tonight... (no more days off till we leave) but I know I'll have kicked it by friday when we leave.....

Just got to thinking.... a week from today we will arrive at POR!!!!

You have come to the right place. Vent to your heart's content, then go and have an awesome vaycay. Enjoy everything to the fullest! However, I insist you have a heart to heart with your DH and in the not so distant future make a trip that is just for the 3 of you. Just don't tell the families, you're adults, you can do that. Make memories that don't leave you feeling beholden to anyone.

So we watched the youtube link you guys posted the other day. Oh my gosh I was crying and smiling and laughing. I want to record our trip, send him the file and have him give it some pixie dust

Made DH watch it and he got all choked up too and said we need to make videos this time And then he said the end of the video is what kills him, going home is so hard. I said we can work on planning our 2013 trip and he said hopefully we like the condo so we can swing going in 2012 again instead. (We had talked about AoA resort but MAN! 300+ a night?!?! I am getting this condo for 425/week! ) I would really love to do Nov/Dec 2012.. so now my head is back in the clouds, dreaming of the next trip, before this one even starts

yeah Hubby is in the same boat as I am. he wants to do a trip just us too. We could definitely swing it. Heck with the payment plan disney offers we could probably pay for the majority of the trip if not all of it with the money I make on etsy... which is basically just "extra" money for us that doesn't get figured into bills or anything so if I could pay with that then we could pay for the trip without even touching our regular monthly income.

I think my biggest issue is I know it's going to cause hurt feelings with MIL. especially if we go and don't tell her and then she finds out later (and she will because I can't keep my excitement to myself lol) she's going to be hurt and if we tell her we want to go alone she's going to be hurt. Hubby is willing to jump on that grenade lol but still I hate that it has to cause hurt feelings at all.

but I think I've gone through this before every disney trip we've made with my inlaws and then we go and have a great time and I get over it but yes I think we are definitely going to plan a trip for just the three of us. We need time as a small family unit too.

It's so sweet you don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. I totally understand how difficult it would be to exclude them, but then again, you need to make those "just the 3 of you" memories. Could you go on the trip they want to fund and then also go on a separate vacation in addition with just the three of you? Hope you can work it out. Feel free to vent all you need...we'll be here for you.

I was thinking about that idea. doing a trip with them and then also doing one ourselves as long as hubby is down for two trips I think that will probably be our best bet. then maybe no one will feel left out and we'll also get our small family trip.

Our Odyssey will be as packed as possible too! Last time we borrowed our neighbors canvas bag that goes on the roof rack but it rained all the way down and we had a lot of wet things when we arrived

Why not alternate years? One with one without? I am sure she would understand that you would like to go as your small family sometime. To offset the hurt maybe if you go to wdw alone, you two can spring for a small weekend trip with your MIL that year , to show your appreciation and that you value the time together?

I am sure you will have a wonderful time. I keep reading about ILs that foot the bill. Still waiting for my fairy godmother-in-law
