September 2011 - The Planning Continues! (2nd Thread)

The magic for me? Well i was never able to go to WDW as a child, finally in 07 DH and I (DBF then) talked his family into a trip (he had been as a child but like 3years old) DH's family made us stay off-site and DH and I were misserible (we were early 20's) but we loved WDW, my favorite picture was from MK leaving at night we asked a security guard to take a family pic, and the castle is behind us lit up!
So we decided to go back to cover all that we missed on our first trip for our Honeymoon in 08! We finally stayed onsite, ASMU and Poly and we fell IN LOVE! The service, the kindness, the magic we just loved, it was like being transported to another universe, everyone was happy and friendly! So after the magic at the parks and the magic at the resort we were hooked!:)

Oh Basketkat! I love your polka dot dress! That is sooo cute!

Happy Easter to all, hope everyone had a wonderful day with their families. Just sitting down to watch a movie with mine, and it makes me wonder when exactly did you know Disney was that special place for you? Or if its your first trip you're planning, what exactly is it about Disney that has you so enamored with it?
(when I have more time I'll post mine!)

Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust! :goodvibes

We went when I was a child - my aunt took her daughter, my mom, my sister & I (I was 8 I believe) and we had an amazing time but the time that makes it the most special for us was Christmas 2004 - our daughter is adopted and we went through a lot over the year prior to her coming home to us... our family is big on Christmas and where this was the first one with our daughter (also the first grandchild for my mom), my mom wanted to make it magical - so she surprised us with a family trip to Disney World. Disney is so amazing at Christmas with all the lights, music, and decorations! No presents (well other than a Santa one for Kelly), no hubbub, no rushing - just a relaxed first Christmas focusing on our new family. Best memory was watching the parade in MK and Ariel noticed our daughter's red hair, pointed to her own red hair and waved at Kelly... amazing!!! :wizard: oh and Kelly got to dance with Minnie Mouse too - have a pic of the two of them twirling around together :)

I'm just loving everyone's stories! What a great question that was, I hope more people will post their memories.

I have a question of my own: What medicines can't you leave home without?
My list already has Tylenol/Ibuprofen for kids/adults, Benadryl, Immodium, Migraine Rx for DH, sudafed. What am I forgetting?

I never brought any medicines with us. We have our car with us so I always figure we can pick up something if we need it. Now I feel like I am jinxing myself and I need to make sure I bring something. Read a lot about moleskin here on the dis and thinking of picking that up just in case. And maybe some bandaids.

As I child I went to Disneyland at least six times. Most of these trips were made before admission to DL was a set fee, instead you purchased ticket books which contained limited tickets for the rides. Needless to say, my older siblings always used the best tickets (the E tickets) and left me and my younger siblings riding the submarine and the skyway. My parents didn't take the family to WDW until I after I moved out.
When I got married (1986) and we had children, we started taking them to DL. We didn't make it to WDW as a family until 2005. This trip included my parents, my siblings and their childrenparty:. There were 18 of us total. For me the Disney Magicpixiedust: occured on my youngest son's birthday. We made reservations on my son's birthday for the entire family to do the illuminations cruise. It took two boats to fit the entire family. The best part was that while I paid for cake and to have only one of the boats decorated for my son's birthday, Disney decorated both boats. My son is 16 and still talks about that birthday.

I have gotten used to packing for when I am on DCL so I over pack since I am stuck on the water. However maybe some of this will be good fits for the rest of you.
Ibuprofen-my kids take swollow pills so no need for kids motrin cause if you match active ingrediants and mg's...most kids can take adults either half pill or 1 full one.

Benadryl
sore throat losengers
bandaids
neosporain
hand sanitizer(I know that's not a med)
Nyquil
alcohol wipes
reg baby wipes
my meds and prenantal pills--(no not prego--anemic:))
kids allergy pills
inhaler
usually I take an antibiotic for cruises(DD(7) gets sinus infections A LOT that I have become good at diagnosing. Luckily I have never had to use the meds but better to have when stuck in the ocean for 7 nts.

too late to thinkof anymore

We changed our dates!

24-2 ~ AlternateEgo (Port Orleans -Riverside) - DD's 6th & DD's 5th Birthdays!
is now 10-18 :)

Good list! I get sinus infections a lot too....have one right now as a matter of fact. :sad2: I try not to take antibiotics unless I REALLY need them because I used to take them all the time....but....I always bring a Z-pack just in case I (or anyone else) needs it on our cruise. On our last cruise, it was Mikella's first time cruising, so I had one of the E.R. docs I work with prescribe some meds for bad abdominal viruses (the kind you get overseas or in Mexico, ick!!) We are always very careful with not drinking anything except bottled water and careful of the foods we buy at ports, but she was only 3, so you never know what she might've touched and then put her hands in her mouth. I didn't want a bad stomach virus to ruin a 7 night cruise!

I also pack steri-strips for any laceration that needs to be cleaned out well and held together nicely. You just never know who's gonna cut themselves on what. I'd bring sutures and lidocaine too, if I didn't think passing the needles through customs would be a problem. :rotfl: I'm a paramedic....what can I say....I like to plan ahead. LOL! And ForTheLoveOfDCL is right....nothing worse than being stuck on a ship and can't get the things you need.....and a pack of bandaids onboard would cost you a fortune.

I also pack:

ice packs (the kind you break and shake to activate)
ace bandage wrap
ear drops (either Rx kind or the OTC kind for swimmer's ear...sometimes DD gets water in her ear and it hurts)

Oh hoe fun!!! I want to hear all about your gifts too!!! My husband and I are going to do a DCL cruise in August of 2012 for our 10th anniversary. I think the FE gifts sound SOOOO fun!!!!! :yay:

That's too bad. I was looking forward to meeting you :sad2: September isn't that far off and will be here before we know it :woohoo: On a happy note (not trying to rub it in) we leave for the beach in 2 days :yay: and after such a long winter here in central NY, I am ready for some sunshine  and relaxing by the ocean.. we like to try to go to Myrtle every year..so maybe we can meet there next year after we meet at Disney :cheer2:

lol, No rubbing it in, I understand! It's been hot and humid here for a couple of weeks, but man, the memory of loooonnngggggg winters still haunts me from my Midwest days!:rotfl: Myrtle Beach is my favorite for the hotel scene, we head straight for Pawley's if we want to rough it. The DDs would rather not rough it, so that's normally where we end up. Generally, I don't get vacays cancelled out from under me, this was definitely an unusual set of circumstances. I calmed down pretty quick when I found out what I was covering for. Beach days can always be rescheduled. The rest of the fam took it better than expected. I think we're going to find ourselves at Six Flags Over Georgia this weekend, so that makes tht girls happy. We will definitely have to meet at Disney, I'm determined! Soak up some beach air for me next week, though, pretty please?

OMG, Amy, these are absolutley adorable! We haven't cruised yet, not with the kiddos, we're pretty sure that's what next for us; depends on whether or not the DH gets bitten by the Disney bug that's got the rest of us all worked up in September!:woohoo:
