September 2, 2012 - Magic - NYC to Canada

I just made a good economic decision and cancelled our pre-cruise stay at
Ink48. We are going to take a New Jersey Transit train from Central NJ to Penn Station on Sunday morning. I just couldn't justify the $350 per night expense. We have a 11:00-11:30AM port arrival time and will probably get to
Penn Station at 10:30AM and take a cab to the port.
My back up plan is to drive, but we will take the North Jersey Coastline route, and if there is trouble there, we would take the Trenton line route.

That's great to save money that you can save for your next Disney trip or use on this one!

The list I've picked up from the DISboards is:
Toy Story 3
Tangled
Cars 2
Avengers
Real Steel
People Like Us
Odd Life Of Timothy Green
Chimpanzee
Brave
:goodvibes
Time is flying...
Christa, are we still on for brunch at Palo?:cool1:

1) I would love to see Tangled (again ;) ), Avengers (again ;) ), the Odd Life and Brave. :3dglasses

2)Yes, I hope we get brunch for us at Rockin Bar. I'm aiming to arrive at 11:30-Noon for my check in, eat and go straight to Rockin. Want to meat there at 1pm? :woohoo:

Christa, OK I'll make the res at Palo for the four of us. My friends who were linked with me had to cancel due to family issues so it's just Patty and I and we will be happy to share Brunch with you both. This is my first platinum cruise and I intend to take advantage of that by being there ice and early. Thanks for asking me to friend you. I will also try to PM you so we can communicate by e-mail.:goodvibes Karen

I can't wait to be on the ship again! I, too, will be doing the dash for Palo reservations to try to snag a brunch.

I'm such a procrastinator that I *just* booked my train ticket for Saturday. Is anyone else planning on catching a show on Saturday? I'll be staying right in Times Square (W) that night so I want to take advantage of the location.

Now I just have to remember that our meet & greet is at 2:30pm, not 3.

Oh yeah, and I have to start packing!!

I just found this board and am trying to read through these 45+ pgs of posts about our cruise this Sunday... Quickly, though: Is there a planned Disboards get-together? If so, when and where?

I figure DH will spend $300 on pins and bingo.

The DISmeet is at 2:30.:goodvibes I think in the Promenade Lounge. It seems that most of the action for this cruise is on Facebook not the DISboards. From what I have gathered people want to be available to be at the Vista Spa at 3pm so they are working around that. Hope to meet everyone at the meet but I sometimes am so excited to be on the ship that I completely forget to go to the meet.

That's interesting, what will you be spending money on while he is pin-trading and playing bingo? I hope we get to meet. I'd like to show your DH my imagineering pin I got while cruising the WBTA in 2010. Love those long cruises. Also seem addicted to pins but not trading just buying.
they do get heavy around the neck though.

I live in South Jersey, near Cherry Hill. I considered taking the train but just couldn't handle the hassle of luggage, even if the cruise is only for 5 nights. I'm driving up with my traveling partner for this trip Patty.

We live in South Amboy and will be taking the train on Sunday morning.
DH doesn't trade anymore, he just buys cruiseline pins. I trade with Cast Members and Ships officers. I watch him in the stores. He would buy every cruise line pin if I wasn't looking. We would love to see your imagineering pin.
I have to remind him that Gold Castaway Cay members get 10% discounts in the gift shops and pin trading cart.
Hope to meet you on the ship, maybe at the 2:30PM meet & greet.

I did this same cruise in June and the CMs were really good about automatically giving the 10%. Your KTTW card tells them that you are gold. I bought a NYC pin and a Canada pin but didn't think to get Saint John and Halifax pins so I might be looking for them. Do you wear your pins? I find them uncomfortable and heavy. I need to rearrange them by subject (retired librarian here I could also do them alphabetically) like ships I've been on, resorts I've stayed at, places I've been, etc. Even though it has only been 2 months I can't wait to cruise again. I'm so glad they are cruising out of NYC and want to encourage them to do it again.;)

Great, Are you on FB? I tend to use that email more since it is only for FB with no spam. I'm sorry to hear your friends can't make it and pray their family issues resolve themselves. BTW, what does Platinum have to do with Palo? So looking forward to being back on the Magic as I haven't been on her since 2009. And, I just love Palo and brunch. Looking forward to "brunching" with you ;)

Wow, please tell me that is more for Bingo than the pins. Although I do like to buy special pins as well. ;)

No I don't do FB. I spend too much time on-line as it is that I have avoided that. Her brother is on hospice so prayers are appreciated. Platinum means I get to board first except for maybe with concierge so I should get to Rockin before you.:cool1:

Christa, I guess I'm going to have to set my alarm on my iPhone for 2:30. Just hope I'll be able to hear it over all the joy and excitement on board. Looking forward to meeting up with you. And wow! did you do all that artwork yourself? We will definitely have to talk about graphics and magnets. I did pm you with my email so if you want to get in touch before passing under the Veranzano Bridge email me.:wave2::wave2::wave2:

Looking forward to meeting all the Jersey people aboard too. Let's keep the Magic going out of NYC!!!

Gotcha, you're a FB avoider. Still praying. Oh funny, well these cruises are #7, 8, & 9 and then the DVC member cruise in 1/2013 will be my platinum. Do you need my reservation number or just names in my cabin and cabin number? My name is Christa Gill and mom is Cathie Slinger. :thumbsup2

Checking now. sorry this is so late. See you tomorrow. Karen

Well, that was fun... while it lasted. This was our shortest cruise ... and I have to say ... I like the long ones better!!! :rotfl:

We didn't get switched to first seating so when we asked about it when we came aboard they said they'd see what they could do. We got a message on our stateroom phone at 5:30 that we could come to early seating .... well, except that we weren't in the room at the time and didn't get the message until 7. :rotfl2: So we went to our scheduled seating and they told us that every day, we could come in at the early seating and they'd find us an empty table to sit at ... depending on who didn't show up. This meant ... early seating (yay!) but no regular server/asst server (booo!) So, as this is one of the things we love about DCL... building a relationship with your servers, we opted to stay with late seating.

Unlike in the Med cruise last year, late seating didn't take forever. We were finished between 9:30 and 9:45 each evening. A far cry from the Med cruise when we were still dining at 10:15! :rotfl:

First, thank you for adding Magic to our cruise! Well, the first 1/2 was prior to a crew member hitting me in my spine with my mom's 9lb purse around 4:10pm on 9/4 right where I have 13 (thirteen) herniated discs right where I had surgery on 7/13 and 7/20. I was in bed all night 9/4, all day 9/5, and most of 9/6 where by the evening I was limping. In fact I needed a wheelchair to get off the ship and back on the ship on 9/7. Thank God I was given a heating pad and my massage therapist in the Vista Spa was from the Phillipines where MTs have to get licensed as Physical Therapists as well. I had only planned on 1 massage for the 3 B2B2Bs but gratefully she was available all 3 cruises which made them somewhat tolerable. Thankfully, I had my doctors, PT, acupuncture, and massage all scheduled for when I got home starting on the 18th.

More importantly, thank you for all the amazing and magical gifts! Some like Shari's blew me away! Your generosity was breath taking! :littleangel: Also, thank to Erica for making the cruise shirts ;) It was nice meeting those of whom we did get to meet... Especially at the DIS Meet; Wendy for showing me what the 4A looked like; Sil for being the FE list King; our neighbors, Tinked; all the Mothers/Daughters at the Luncheon; Caroline, Carina and Luke from Ireland who were B2B with me on the 9/7 cruise; Bob/Amy who joined us for dinner starting from night 2; Shari who unfortunately met me while I was in tears limping back to my room on 9/6; and all the 9/2 DISers! :goodvibes

Checking now. sorry this is so late. See you tomorrow. Karen

It was so great meeting you both! Thank you for inviting us to Brunch!! I'm just glad it was before the incident on 9/4. I would have hated to miss Brunch at Palo as mom had never done it before this cruise. We had done High Tea but not Brunch. Thanks again :flower3:

A story on how the Magic was the first ship at the Diamond Jubilee terminal in Saint John. There's a photo of Captain Robert.

I tried to open the link but got a 404 error? :confused3

Thanks again 9/2 DISers for bringing Magic to our 1st cruise! :thanks:
