OMG! I'm so sorry tracy, I wasn;t even trying to get it this time, I was just getting over the shock of what Scott posted on the prices....didn;t even realize all those other posts showed up. I feel bad now.. :sad2:

It doesn't sound so bad until you realize that point. I think with DCL & DVC you just have to sit down and do the math. The monetary cost of the cruise and the monetary cost of the points for the cruise and then compare the two.

Cat 4 for a family of 4 2 adults adn 2 kids ages 6-12 qould be 756 points

Cat 11 same group would be 436 points.

hmm, ok well maybe that's not tooo bad, we actually have 5

two adults, 17, 8 & 2

so that was for a cat 4 7 wk?

scott, where is it you are getting this from? can you share a link? I saw the point calculator on the DIS site but it only listed resorts, not DCL from what I could tell.

anyway, thanks again for all the helpful info!

Alright, I too have to call it quits for a few hours. It's almost quitting time. But I think 16 posts in an 8 hour period is a pretty good contribution.

Basically, what DVC is is paying lump sum and then the maintenance fees for your room. If you're use to staying in first rate rooms then you'll be good to go. Steve and I use ours for both resort DVC rooms and cruise suites. A lot of people say it's not a good idea to cruise on points as it costs more if you figure $10 per point value. But, I love calling member services, paying my $75 booking fee and forgetting about it. Now this is after the initial investment.

We are very happy with the DVC. You will not find a hard pressure sales pitch. If you want DVC, you have to go to them.

Believe it or not, I've never been to Napa. Been to Monterey and Temecula. Monterey was fun, but so far between all the wineries.

You've never been to Napa???? With a name like "winotracy" - that just doesn't make much sense. It's kinda like someone asking me why I don't drink wine. When you're born and raised here, it's no big deal. The only wine I drink is "Page." It's amazing!

P.S. Tracy, great job on the news letter this month. Only one more!!!

.....$10 per point, I thought it was appx $100 / pt?

in either case it does sound like a good value (I was just getting over the shock of thinking it was 250-400 for the cat 4 room and not per person) , i guess i'm just missing one other piece of the puzzle and that is the yearly maint fee?

do you know what the maint fee would be if you had say 250 pts?

Each point usually rents for about $10.00

Ok now take those 750 points over to the Dvc rent trade board, list them there for $10.00 each to rent !

giving you $7500.00 to spend on a cruise . :teeth:

Then go over to the DCL website and price out a cat 4 cruise for the FAM.

7-NIGHT WESTERN CARIBBEAN CRUISE
March 24-31, 2007
(Ship: Disney Magic)
Stateroom: 2 Adults and 2 Children (Ages 4 and 10)
Total Price: $$ 8,445.20
no insurance no transfers.

School vacation week ? :goodvibes

See the difference ! less to use the points in this case. :teeth:

The way we feel is, they are your points use them as you wish..

just wish we had more . :teeth:

The $10 per point is the approximate yearly value of a point. i.e. a 50 point reservation would have a cash value of $500.

Maint fees vary depending on your home resort a ball park number would be about $5 per point per year.

Add about a 107 points to the figure I gave you for your family of 5, that is the appox 2007 point numbers for a western cruise.

Point numbers are from a DVC members only site.

Hi Tracy

We've only been twice. But I think we will be going back more often. We did nothing but sparkling wines this trip. Korbel and Iron Horse on Friday after the drive up. Mumms, Chandon, Gloria Ferrer and Domaine Carneros on Sat.

After all that, we were almost ready to go back to Mumms before the drive home on Sunday, and then decided not to.

Great fun, but it can get expensive.

I agree 100% and it sounds like DVC is taking note of people that rent their points out an a regular basis. I never plan on renting out our points, we use them.

Yes you do,

hey you other DVC Members, if I get something wrong please correct me, Thanks, I don't want to missguide anyone.

Peter working later tonight???

Bob, my Tiki bar opened early tonight, it was a rather long day.

The other thing with using points, is you are not paying resort taxes and fees when you go.

Nothing like checking out and your room bill is absolutely ZERO dollars!

Also, when we added our points (250) and got the free Hong Kong trip, they were not $100 per point. Prices just went up I think around July 1st this year.

Plus, you can usually have them back date points and they will give you last year, this year and next, so when you buy say 250 points, you could actually use 750 immediately by banking, using, and borrowing.

I can tell you that we have more than paid for our DVC ownership in cruises and vacations thus far. If you are a Disney fan and keep going back over and over, I can't imagine paying over and over for cruises and rooms.

Nothing I like better than booking a cruise and paying $75.00 for the booking fee! YIPEE!

Linda

14 day med repo $75.00

the cash price alone made it worth it using DVC points and I get to use them over and over and over again!

(Sorry, I love DVC and am so glad we bought in in 1994). Only wish we were like Scott and bought in 1991.

Also, I know many people who are kicking themselves who didn't buy back in the 90's and are now just buying in.

Okay headed home to work on the mini-navigator!

We absolutely love our DVC too! Go over on the DVC boards and post that you cruise on points! Man they really flame :furious: you there but it's okay, I can take it!

We bought mainly so that we could cruise more often and it's allowing us to do just that.

Our first DCL trip we were not members and it costs us $8,000 for 4 adults. That would have been a nice downpayment on a DVC membership! :sad2:

We were thinking about doing the DC members only cruise next year but our DS will be getting married so I think we'll give them our points and let them cruise for their honeymoon.
