Passenger Files Suit Against Cruise Line for Sexual Assault


SACRAMENTO, Calif., Aug. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- A thirty-five year old woman
from California has filed a lawsuit against a Miami based cruise line.
Ms. Laurie Dishman, of Sacramento, California, went on a cruise to the
Mexican Riviera aboard Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas on February 19,
2006. During the cruise, a security guard employed by the cruise line
entered her cabin and sexually assaulted and battered her, according to Ms.
Dishman.
According to Ms. Dishman, she left the cruise ship on February 22, 2006
and reported the crime to the FBI in Long Beach, California, where the
cruise ship is based. Ms. Dishman was informed by the FBI that the
Department of Justice ("DOJ") declined the case for prosecution on February
26, 2006. This was the same day that the cruise ship returned to port, and
before a serious investigation could be started.
To date, the cruise line will not provide her with the name, address,
nationality, or current whereabouts of the crew member. The cruise line has
also withheld copies of her shipboard medical records and information about
whether the crew member has HIV/AIDS or other diseases, Ms. Dishman
alleges.
Ms. Dishman is attempting to re-open the criminal investigation and
obtain justice. "I have been supported by my loyal friends and loving
family. My Senator and Congresswoman have also helped me," stated Ms.
Dishman. "I am also thankful to members of the International Cruise Victims
organization ("ICV"), who have assisted me."
The ICV is a grass roots victims advocacy organization created by the
families of crime victims on cruise ships. Currently pending before
Congress is H.R. 5707, the "Cruise Line Accurate Safety Statistics Act"
("CLASS" Act). The "CLASS" Act will help ensure safety for cruise
passengers and justice for crime victims on cruise ships. Information

Disney Cruise Line The parents of a girl have filed suit against Disney Cruise Line after their daughter was allegedly sexually assaulted by a crew member while on the October 2, 2005 cruise from Port Canaveral. The suit "alleges the crew member 'falsely imprisoned, sexually assaulted, exposed himself to, and intentionally inflicted emotional distress.'" See the Orlando Sentinel for more.

Finally got caught up again!! Got back from Indianapolis on Sunday and had a ton of posts to read, was trying to finish reading them last nite and something went wrong with the site, glad to read that it wasn't something that I did. Went to Cheeseburger in Paradise while we were in Indy this weekend, Wow!! Even my son who is REALLY picky loved it. We went to the Indiana state fair on Saturday, my grandson loved petting all the animals, especially the baby pigs, that is until the momma pig decided she didn't like everyone playing with her babies. Tell ya what, that big ol' pig came running over and scared the bejeebers out of both of us!! She didn't look nearly as intimidating laying on the other side of the pen.

Finally caught up, No Lab sessions today so I can not get on as easily, banquet to night and will be home late tomorrow.
