So where do you go in Mexico (I noticed you're a TA)...

... we've been to a few places in Mexico but have not exhausted the concept by any means. A little about us in Mexico... we've done a cruise that hit Alapcuco, Manzania, and ??? ... and we've done one land spiff to the Moon Palace in Cancun. Aside from that we have not seen anything more south of Ensenada. We would consider travel more to Mexico if we knew when the "smart" or "experienced" travelers go - and for what. We are happy to get out and balance a resort with exploring the near by points of interest and we tend to be fairly independent sorts.

Aside from that - we've done Asia and europe a few times. Most via independent travel... and we've done a few guided land tours and maybe 15-17 cruises. Varies with me or my spouse. She's done 2 without me before we met. I lived a sheltered life. Worked in the family retail business which never closed 365 days a year... I used to think THAT was normal.

:confused3

I specialize in Mexico - off the beaten path stuff for the most part. I have contracts with hotels that you can't get through the large tour operators, in places where you can't otherwise purchase a package with air/transfer/insurance/accommodations/tours. Specialized itineraries along with the usual stuff too. 90% of my business is to the Yucatan. I don't think it is appropriate for me to post much in this forum, as a travel agency promotes this website. I don't want to step on toes.

I'm going to post something here that may upset a few people. But I'm not one to bite my tongue for long. This has been bothering me since I signed up here.

Tracy makes a VERY good point. I can't believe how obsessed people are with "milestones." It makes it VERY hard for anyone that is a newbie to this board to try and find "REAL" information.

I jumped in and posted a few around one of the big milestones the other day - making a joke of it - but I don't think anyone even looked at it like a joke...

I have a few questions I'd love to ask, but I'm afraid I'll never find the answers. Some days I just can't check this board, or have to skim through quickly to try and catch up. It is actually very annoying for anyone trying to find real information to use this board. Unfortunately, when it comes to Disney crusing, there isn't much info on Cruise Critic, like you can find for most other cruises.

I know of one board that split into a Q&A, and a "Chatter" board to fix this problem. That would sure have made things easier with this sailing. On a "chatter" board you could post away to your heart's content with rambling nonsense that has nothing to do with cruising.

Isn't the reason they provide an opportunity to use these boards, to assist people with questions about a cruise? And to give opportunity for people on the same cruise to set up group events, etc.? I really don't think it is to use as much bandwidth as possible, with filler posts, just to try to reach some landmark number of postings.

I've seen mention of the "DIS" people on other boards now - not all in "good light." I'm afraid you might scare off people with the "secret society" that seems to go on within threads for a sailing. I haven't seen anything quite like this with any other cruiseline. I'm hoping the stories I've just read about some sailings did not include any of the people here. If so, I'm a little scared to even go on this cruise now.

My hope is that things just started to get a little out of hand here among friends that have been posting together for a year in anticipation. Obviously there will be postings about what is going on in real life - especially between people that have made a connection - that is not at issue. But posting just to obtain numbers...ramblings...dribblings...that is a mess to sort through for someone just looking for info.

Two weeks to go - not sure if I'm as excited as I was or not...at least I know we have some great ports!
Well said Kathryn. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 Don't be scared off by a few and please dont' let it ruin your excitement about this fabulous cruise. Also, if you have questions.. please still feel free to ask. Most of us want to share and help each other and new cruisers. Feel free to ask for answers via PM... that way you won't miss the answers amongst the clutter. ;)

I guess I am one of the guilty ones on this and I apologize. I was just trying to have a little fun now that I actually have time to read the posts. My apologies if I put anyone off. I was a bit scared by the number of posts when I joined this thread but quickly learned to skim over things. This seems to be a great bunch of people. Sorry again if I was one of the people you are referring to. :guilty: (On another note- I can honestly say that I am not one of the people you would have read about on another sailing- this is the 1st time I've really tried to get to know some people before we cruise)

Could someone post a like to CC's shopping that went up either Thursday or Friday? I might do a little online spending in the morning. For now I'm going to bed. Very quite tonight.

Two weeks from tonight I will be sleeping, so I can get up early to get to the port. I will be laying in bed talking to Robb about what a great time we had at Scott's.

.... I can't believe how obsessed people are with "milestones." It makes it VERY hard for anyone that is a newbie to this board to try and find "REAL" information. century milestones come only every hundred postings - this alone is not cluttering the entire thread? Thousand marks only come one in a THOUSAND... that's not excessive clutter is it?

I jumped in and posted a few around one of the big milestones the other day - making a joke of it - but I don't think anyone even looked at it like a joke... That's funny - because I look at every century sprint and see several congratulatory posts who clearly are good natured every time. I do not recall seeing complaints at every century mark?

I have a few questions I'd love to ask, but I'm afraid I'll never find the answers. (post your questions) Some days I just can't check this board, or have to skim through quickly to try and catch up. It is actually very annoying for anyone trying to find real information to use this board. Unfortunately, when it comes to Disney crusing, there isn't much info on Cruise Critic, like you can find for most other cruises.

{I agree completely - I can't catch up some days too -plus cruise critic has NO DCL following of significance - nor does the Carnival cruise meet area. The DCL enthusiasts here crush the scale of cruise meet activity at cruise critic and DCL on average. <MATH ALERT> :teacher: Consider Cruise Critic has 26,373 threads and 1,925,047 posts on it's roll call area <includes CC member cruises>... and the DIS cruise meet area has 2,651 threads and 448,377 posts... that means that the average roll call at CC has only 73 postings while at the DIS the average cruise meet thread has 169... and our sailing has 15,000+ postings with 231,241 viewings... that in itself tells you this is an unusual sailing. Shoot... compared to the average Cruise critic roll call posting total of 73 ... by myself I posted 72 to our thread friday nite! So I say again - the cruise critic roll call area is on average anemic at best - and little community or added value is achieved with only 73 postings on average for the entire thread over there - of course 15,000 is unusual compared to 73 as a total... and we still have 2 weeks + to go!}

I know of one board that split into a Q&A, and a "Chatter" board to fix this problem. <problem?> That would sure have made things easier with this sailing. On a "chatter" board you could post away to your heart's content with rambling nonsense that has nothing to do with cruising.
[I disagree- if you want to make friends or just get to know folks you have to talk a bit - and this rambling chatter is part of it and probably looks like gibberish to some but is music to others - this is no average cruise by ANY leap of the imagination - try to enjoy it as a special voyage.., there is only 1 eleven day southern sailing this year!]

[there are no set rules as to what this forum is for - except for folks on the same sailing to meet and exhange thoughts of all sorts - including whimsy. Bandwidth is not really threatened here - even with my recent gifs - now if I had posted full length movies that would have been a bandwidth threat. And for general cruise info there is the regular DCL DIS forum - this is the cruise meet thread]

I've seen mention of the "DIS" people on other boards now - not all in "good light." <Would it be "envy" then? Passonate activity like this is generally a "success problem" as opposed to an inactivity issue> I'm afraid you might scare off people with the "secret society" that seems to go on within threads for a sailing. I haven't seen anything quite like this with any other cruiseline. I'm hoping the stories I've just read about some sailings did not include any of the people here. <What are the stories? I am curious?>If so, I'm a little scared to even go on this cruise now. [Certainly, this secret society suggestion is mysterious sounding ... and I'd say we have no terrorist societies here except from what I can see - a lot of happy Disney cruise enthuisiasts... you should have no fear of anything on a DISNEY cruise - alarmist talk like this is unjustified]

My hope is that things just started to get a little out of hand here among friends that have been posting together for a year in anticipation. Obviously there will be postings about what is going on in real life - especially between people that have made a connection - that is not at issue. But posting just to obtain numbers...ramblings...dribblings...that is a mess to sort through for someone just looking for info.[Out of hand for some is the just the beginning for others. You're taking this too seriously if you actually are that concerned, there is nothing to fear except fear itself - I on the other hand would agree that accumulating 1/3rd of 15,000 postings in the last 17 days versus the 10,000 that came in the 23+ months preceeding is a little unusual ~ and I was on vacation in Hawaii when other folks were pumping that record along hotly!]

Two weeks to go - not sure if I'm as excited as I was or not...at least I know we have some great ports![the gathered DIS group is exactly what makes this sailing different from any other DCL voyage... I for one look at the established group that was here BEFORE I joined a couple months ago as an amazing gathering of kind souls. Playful and good natured and a rare asset to our community... and not as rif-raff sequestered as a secret society. You should consider youself lucky to have a chance to meet them all. I consider myself quite fortunate to have the chance and the folks here deserve better then to be thought of as a fiendish secret group with an alterior or damaging agenda]

df20000518.jpg

Well...

I have to step forward to apolagize. I am probably one of the most active RECENT posting sorts over the past 48 hours.* However, I was on vacation in Hawaii for most of the 17 days the community took to go from 10,000 to 15,000. And I did post a few in that period - but not much at all compared to my usual lurking and everyone else.

And on the secret society... well, it's not that at all - I think it transcends my existance or contributions - that much is certain... as I am a newbie in many ways. And yet I still feel welcome among the old timers. And beyond that - I am simply impressed by the generosity and neighborly gestures being offerred by so many with the many DIS activities and efforts being made without alterior motive for profit or self edification. (DID I Say that?)

Oh well.... as I was saying... it takes a generous sort to maintain a newsletter for 1-2 years for the benefit of so many.... or to organize a PJ party for the fun of so many who have not sent a paypal or physical hand shake of thanks (yet)... and the repetitive list of contributions goes on and on. If this seems like a "secret society" <? it can't be ?> then so what? I rather it be thought of as simply a lucky group of enthusiasts who have found one another.... and folks of all stripe should be welcome to join in as much or as little as they care to. And the same applies to posting frequency and intensity.

My flight of fancy to post 72 friday was an annomaly... I don't do that daily. And trust me - when the regular community is around they accumulate far more then my solo 72... plus more than half (more or less) of my posts were clearly in reply to others for one thing or another. The others were after midnite flights of fancy - I confess!

flying.gif

So... This is MORE then a technical info exchange ... it is a community of fun seeking vacationers 1st who are seeking one another out - and we're just getting to know one another on varied levels - some possibly misunderstood by others (sorry) as over the top ....Oh well... I must confess small bits of happiness at discovering we have Dr. Who enthusiasts on board... how wonderful! Plus that I have neighbors in state who have nearly adjacent cabins to mine! Pittsburg Steeler fans no less - wow! My spouse grew up in a small one signal light town just outside of Pittsburgh... so she has a Steelers heart! And there's so much more I've found here to simply smile about. Now... how would we have found this out without a little playful whimsy in our posting content?

steelers.gif

Now... going to 72 was a little wacky - and I assure everyone that was a personal record for good reason - and that is it is hard to pull off casually... AND as for the century sprints... it's simply a playful exercise and I enjoy sniping them when I can. It's all a joke ... for any who care to to chuckle over. I'm laughing at the insanity of it. I am playful at heart and I shall continue as such for about 2 weeks further online. Once aboard the Wonder I intend to have a great time finally meeting so many cheerful hearts I've come to know ... some well - some only faintly. And maybe when I sail again I'll post again just like I have here. Life is too short (really) to take ANYTHING too seriously. Just a few minutes ago I learned of a prayer mission our church sent to China that was arrested while conducting a Christian gathering. NOW that is serious stuff to some extent. A 2nd email already noted the team was released after being held longer then the other 50 Christians who were gathered - but the messages conveyed were very very brief and urgent in conveying they were safe but could not talk more.

SO - I think this rejiggerred post is softer then my initial comments believe it or not. I for one hope it does not offend.. please forgive my defensive tone. I do mean the very best to all who lurk or partake of the fun and diversions offerred! Step up and have more fun then you have any right to expect - and why NOT? Life is far too short to let ANYTHING get you down or sour... even if your kids take a crayola to the ceiling of your otherwise nice car... let it go and laugh a little... I had to do exactly that today! Plus - I have recently seen several close to us develope chronic and terminal conditions - sad but true - so lighten up and try to be happy no matter what!

Now... who wants peach sparkling cider at Scotts wine and cheese? Cuz my spouse and I do not drink heavily and I wanna have something the kids will enjoy! If too many say "I want a glass" of that to choke on then I'll have to bring more then a 750 or 2! :lmao:

Have a great evening folks! Sorry if there seems to have been too much fluff here. In the past few weeks it was thicker and NOT all my content (on balance).*
TTFN.... :wave2:

* That's not usually "me"... especially considering my "productive" posts elsewhere on the DIS and in other arenas on the web.

 I signed up for this cruise not even one month ago and when I returned home from my "MAGICal" cruise I found it's very difficult to catch up or even really figure out where to begin. I did start on page 1, post 5.

I'm just curious how many of you cruised together before or did most of you meet on this thread?

I love everything Disney and DCL is my favorite cruise line. I joined the other thread for the 8/19 sailing almost 2 years ago, while many of them sailed 2 years prior. Over the past two years, I formed friendships that I hope will last forever and many of us rebooked for 8/08. To a few, I'll always be the newbie since I wasn't on their original cruise in 8/04.

I can't believe that I'm almost off the Magic for one week and in 2 weeks I'll be cruising again. :woohoo:

Happy Birthday Cathy!! party: :bday:

Dan and I did go to the bluebeery festival in Plymouth today. It got quite warm this afternoon. We left fairly early and stopped by Olive Garden for dinner, all in all it was a good day, it was nice to get away, just the two of us. We stopped by a few stores to look for some capris for me to wear on this cruise, since I have been dieting and lost about 25 lbs nothing fits me anymore!! Found some great bargains at Fashion Bug. Actually found some capris, jeans and shoes for $3.98. Also found a formal for $10.00. Hopefully the dinner at OG won't play to much havoc on my diet. :guilty: (PIT I totally understand the Taco Bell attack, mine was OG!!)
Still need to do my shopping for my Secret Mickey, finish decorating my fish extender, pack, figure out what I am gonna pack, make my door signs, start packing, get a haircut, pack, schedule a manicure and pedicure, did I mention pack???? Oh my, I have a lot to do!! What the heck am I doing on the computer.....I better go start packing!! See ya all in two weeks!

Enjoy your dinner. If you are around the bar at POP the night of the 15th, keep your eye open for Bob and I. Would love to meet you.

Ditto! We'd love to meet you too ... two ... to ... (pick one of the 2's :lmao: ) however, it will probably be closed by the time we get back. We have MNSSHP 'till midnight on the 15th, which means we wouldn't get back to Pop until about 1am.

Of course, if YOU get there early enough, you could try for MNSSHP tix and join us ..... :confused3 :confused3

Well...

I'm back... anyone around? Guess not... then again I was not expecting anyone having seen folks have probably busy enjoying the weekend with going places and such.

OK... I'll check back later maybe... :thumbsup2

Oh yeah...

I went a lookin' for my onw posting of the disney.com discouinted list but it seems to have been edited out? Or I missed it. Either way ... just go to the OUTLET area of the site and look at all the $2.99 stuff! It's under kids' PJs.... and there was aloha wear for 9.99 and a slimming one piece black swimsuit with a mickey print for I think 9.99. My spouse had purchased about half this stuff in a prior order and last nite/morning added another $100 or so of mostly 2.99 stuff. Shipping is free if you buy over $75. Plus I think you can google a discount code... except we did not google it or use one.

Hope this helps. I'm gonna watch this to see if it gets edited or deleated.

Cheers!
Tom :thumbsup2

Good Morning Captain..... :rolleyes1

hmmmm...where have I heard that before :confused3

You're up early. Dogs? That is my story and I'm stickiing to it.

It's amazing how dogs get into a schedule of eating and so forth and they don't want to deviate from it. Thought I could sleep in today, but no. The howling started at 6:30. Had to feed her or she would wake the guests. :lmao:

Bev,

Some of the people on this thread have met before, before they even cruised on dcl. Some have met on DCL. Some have cruised multiple times together, some have met each other only briefly. Some have not met anyone at all except for the chatter on these boards.

A great group here which makes cruising so much more fun, as you already have a few friends when you get on the ship..lol.

Looking forward to meeting you.

OH, we would love to do that, in fact trying to figure a date to take our grandaughter for the first time..lol. This quick trip to POP before the cruise is to meet up with some of our other disney loving friends, lol, so no MNSSHP for us on the 15th.

Enjoy MNSSHP, it is one of our favorite events at disney, besides food and wine fest..lol.

We have one of those appointments too...almost every night.
But she usually gets fed about 6 in the morning. If it gets much past that, she lets me know. :)
