I would tell my hubby (Hillsborough Co. Deputy) to see if there had been a report of a robbery of any kind and let them know that it had been found and go through the wait to keep the guilt off my back (just in case).
I called my DH on this after all, and he advised that in the state of FL 1) It is not illegal per say to keep it, but if you want the money
guilt free then... 2) You can take it in to your nearest Sheriff's office or Police station and they will impound the money for 90 days and if no one claims the money (they would have to prove that the money is theirs) then it would go back to the person who found it - free and clear.
But, by what you described I would say that most likely it is drug money! And, I guarantee they won't be calling the police to report their lost funds!
If that sort of money showed up by my car... and if I beleieved it might be related or connected in any way to a crime I would especially involve the authorities. Now - if I found it OFF my property - on the street just anywhere I
might be musing a different line? But - most likely my particular brand of conscious makes me think that if I had dropped $1400 in cash I would like a kind soul to turn it in - and I would reward them a finders' percentage. Poor consolation to just keepin' it but rich in conscious purity. AND for lesser sums... it would be a fist full of lotto tickets for me, er, rather my kid(s) as they would opt for the 25 year pay out! I'd be costodian of their winnings and then I'd start spendin' some of their inheritance! The part I'm contributin' then a sliver of their "kitty"... assuming a sizable lotto win occurs... Heh-hee-hee.... lkike THAT's ever gonna happen...
Then again stranger things have happened, eh?
Like grown men in grass skirts... who would have figured???
What am I sayin'? ... I'm packin' a grass skirt for this sailin'?!?!

Seriously, coins and solitary bills on the ground I generally keep - "see a penny, pick it up... and all the day you'll have good luck". Now - if it were a 1,000,000 in bills in a large box ... I might have a serious problem...
Hmm.... how much volume would 1,000,000 occupy? Say all $20s ... 5x10=100x 10= 1,000 x 1,000 ... oh shoot... just divide 1,000,000 by 20 = 50,000. And a stack of bills is say 100? So that would be 500 bundles of 100x $20. A 500 quantity would fit into a 20 high x 5 wide x 5 deep pile. A bill is about (what) ... 2-7/8" x 6-9/16" .... som the base dimensions are slightly greater than 14-3/8" wide x 32 -13 /16 x the height of 2,000 bills. I am estimating the height at 1" since I don't work with stacks of cash anymore... this makes the overall dimensions an estimated CUBE of 14~3/8 W x 32~13/16 L x 20" H (est).
Using $100 bills cuts this by 80%... and using a credit card reduces it further... LOL!
Anyone care to calculate the CUBE for Pesos or penny rolls?
I think the CENTER of this $1,000,000 display in Vegas (I've seen it in person!) must be HOLLOW coinsidering it is 17 stacks high on the base and 5 wide and $100 bills! 4 sides plus the top stack mean it must be hollow.
