Well...

... at least I'll bet you at least have a valid PASSPORT or BC w/DL! I've been semi-packed since last weekend but only now discovered my doc issues! LOL! Tomorrow I hope to resolve this.

AND... it's nice to see you made it to MK. We're out here in far away Californina and we went no-where this weekend. No Disneyland, no powershopping even though I know of at least one cruising DIS family that drove past us to get at the local "Premium" outlet mall in Camarillo. We just stayed close to home and sort of vegged out! It's nice to do that every now and then, ya kno!

Hey - our families beach house is very near the Camarillo outlet mall!!

So you wouldn't happen to be related to the family that owns the Patagonia company? We almost rented a beach house on the Rincon from them! Or are you folks on Hollywood Beach, or up in Ventura?

Tomorrow, I plan on mailing a box of fish extender stuff to myself at the ship. I understand that I need to list my cabin number on the address label and the cruise date. Does anyone have the address or other tips for the address label?

Please advise.

Sandy,

Hello

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for wishing us a happy anniversary :wave2:

We can not wait for this vacation. We have not had time to start packing. Our weekends are so insane. We did manage to go to the $100 dollar store, better known as Costco, and pick up a "few" things but of course the second we got home we thought of things we could use for the trip... now we need to go back :sad2:
Tried going shopping for shorts etc... and when you live in the "great white north" stores tend to stop selling summer clothes at the end of July. agh!! Oh well on the bright side I can buy more stuff once we're there right :Pinkbounc

Soon we will all be off on our WONDERful vacation  :cheer2:

Can't wait to meet you all very soon

question on packing...

is anyone using those space bags? if so, how do you seal them back up for the return trip? :confused3

you need to be careful on the ferry idea...one of the agencies, don;t remember if it was hertz or budget said that you could not take the car off the island and would face a fine of $1000 if doing so....that would kinda blow that savings right out of the water now so check into that before you consider the side trip. :drive: :goodvibes

is there really a Costco on St Thomas? ...how far from where we will be?

Avis and Budget have offices across the street form the cruise ship terminal. I just booked Avis at $68.55 inc tax for the intermediate - 2nd smallest size car. I sent an email to Dependable (a loaclly owned svc that will pick up ~ and Lets Go Steelers, I asked for a quote from them for you - they want a CC to guarantee so I am reluctant to do so but am still considering them)... and I am about to check budget. Oh boy... Budget has a convertible for the same price as the Avis compact... but I reserved a full size Taurus for $56.49 including the $2.50 license tax. Saved 8 bucks and got a larger car... or put another way... Budget is $19.19 cheaper then Avis... which makes me suspicious of Budget not actually being across the street from the cruise terminal. The Budget site says they will pick up - so if this is the case then they WOULD be cheaper... and there is the possiblility of losing a little time tansiting to and from their office or expense in hopping a cab to their office if their pick up is not on the bounce. SO - inadvertantly I have a reservation now for BOTH and will wait for the Budget pickup a few minutes and if it does not materialize I'll just walk a little further and get the AVIS or go with the nearly certain touts who will try to snag my business while I am standing around and waiting for the Budget pickup.

The prices of the Avis/budget cars were as follows on St Thomas for Wed the 20th from 8AM to 4PM.

Economy (B= Daewoo Lanos) = 48.85
Compact (B=Mitsu Miarage/A=Toyota Echo) = 49.99 / 58.80
Intermediate (B=Ford Escort/A=Chev Cavalier) = 51.99 / 64.80
Standard (B=Ford Contour) = 52.99
Full Size (B=Ford Taurus/A=Chev Malibu) =53.99 / 73.80
Convertible (B=Sebring) = 64.99
MiniVAN (B=Merc Villager/A=Chev Venture) = 71.85 / 98.00
Wagon (B+Ford Focus Wagon) = $75

CDW were $19.95. My spouse always makes me consider this - and often buy it but I'm a pretty good driver having never hit another car before for a recorded accident. Now I was hit while I was in my car PARKED - and another car hit me. Does that count against me? I was not moving.

I'm gonna start checking the other islands now. ANyone know any good discount codes for these rental car companies.

If anyone wants to semi-tag along with our driving tour then PM me - we are just gonna do Coki, Sapphire and maybe Coral world. Here is a site for ST Thomas... http://www.vinow.com/stthomas/ and here is a site for Coral World http://www.coralworldvi.com with a $3 discount coupon making admission $15. We are mixed on going as it is mostly an aquarium and we have a gorgous aquarium in our area (Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific).... so we might do beaches and fish for outher diversions. We've done Megan's Beach 2-3x in the recent past so - even though it is a known qualtity - we've never been to other beaches and herard Sapphire has gorgous deep blue waters, clear snorkling and iguanas in abundance. I am still researching the other beaches and have nixed some of the others. One near the airport was cited as vanilla in intensity so that's one which was nixed. I expect to see 2-3 beaches, and stop for many photo ops as I am an avid photographer. Coki - we are beginning to wonder about - as someone on another site warned of Coki being very very crowded. As such... we just might motor over to red hook for a ferry to St Johns now because all of those beaches are drop dead gorgous - and represent a new adventure for us. Plus this adds the novelty of the ferry ride. We've taken the ferry from red hook before but did not do beaches then. I think the first ferry over is at 9PM from red hook - so I think it is possible but tight. SO I still have to scope out the alternatives in case we MISS the 9am ferry - and confirm there is in fact a 9AM ferry. I know the Ritz Carlton is near red hook as that is where we stayed some time ago. it would be nice to sort of visit there again for a few minutes to remininesce.

Taxi from port to Coki is $9+1 grty pp each way. SO for a family of 4 a Budget Lanos and the CW $3 coupons versus a CAB would and regular admission wouold save about $41 - offset by fuel and the use of a car all day versus a single round trip to Coki by Cab. Or $38.50 is saved in a Budget full sized Tarus. Versus a triangular trip by cab (+$27) I estimate you'd save maybe $65.50 less fuel and gain all day use of a Full Sized Taurus... or save $70.50 with a DaeWoo Lanos! Enough for a "fair" lunch on the island w/ alcohol... unless you just pick up a Costco pizza and salad - in which case you'd save money AND have $50-55 to shop or NO lunch and the savings easily covers the Coral World admission cost!

OK... hope this helps!

(ABOVE) That's Julianna when she was maybe 1 year old on St John.
The worst flight segment ever was from St Thomas to Miami - she cried terribly and in Miami I overheard someone saying "you would not believe how rough that flight was". Otherwise she's been an easy flying baby/toddler/child. That flight it rained unbelieveably when we boarded and she really disliked :sad2: the run to the air stairs on American Airlines!

Wow.. the boards are quiet tonight.. where is everyone?? Packing?? I'm in panic mode at this point with nothing done. :scared1: I'm still having to wear the stuff I want to take!! :rolleyes2 High today was 97º!!!!!
On the other hand... MK was almost empty today ...walked on almost everything!! :woohoo: nice end to the Holiday weekend! It's back home tomorrow morning. :sad1:Then I have to get into serious packing mode!!

Ref the Bubba Mugs, to explain how it got started, someone posted a message about finding a Bubba Mug, someone else posted a picture, a few others said, that looks really "KEWL", and it just grew from there. On the Panama Canal cruise it was the same way with the blinking flip flops.

It got up to 85 degrees here today (or yesterday, I see that it is after midnight here), it was a beautiful sunny day.

We did most of our packing this weekend, decided to pack instead of going camping. I now do not feel so stressed about the packing. I was really apprehensive about packing the weekend before we were leaving, I was afraid that we would need something that I did not have time to find. As it was, we went to the store at least 3 times this weekend for something that we could not live without.

Lynn

sounds about right.....

someone mentioned them being at WalMart and the fact that they were DISgreen. Mainly they would help cut down on trips to the beverage bar since it was huge!!! then I found out about the photo and thought we should all get together to try and win the Bubba of the Month...there should be an entry on P1P5.

as bob says re: the grass skirt fraternity, 1 mug...., 2 mugs... 3 mugs...., 50+ mugs and its a Bubba Movement!! :thumbsup2 :rotfl: :rotfl:

Bev that is a good question, I can't remember how the Bubba Mug thing got started, I think maybe Leslie had something to do with it, she found them at Walmart, 52 oz, keeps stuff cold, saves trip to get a fresh beverage. Then it just got going, their web site is www.bubbakeg.com , they have a photo section that Ivan found and if ya get one you can join in for teh photo that will be sent to the Bubba Mug people.

Any other thoughts folks, that is the best I can do.

how did the bath room remodel go? did you ever post the pictures....i missed numerous pages so I may have missed them...

congrats!!

Bob and Lee, congrats on the newest addition to your family!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

We're getting closer to the cruise. I need to start thinking about packing and decorating my fish extender at some point. Maybe now that the house is done I might be able to get it done.

Night everyone!!!

pretty soon I think we may have spent more on all the cruise-related items than the cruise itself....hmmmphhhh :sad2: :sad2:  :sad2: :sad2:

Well...

... thatt IS interesting. I'll have to check on that - ferrying to ST John that is. And the Costco as I recall was either a real costco or maybe it was a Price Costco <remember them?> and I remember for some reason I ducked in when my spouse and baby were somewhere near by - and I can't recall the circumstances.

I kno what U mean - but it's all in good fun. We've gotten tons of Disney stuff with a lot of it getting reused... plus I have some goodies for the kids cuz half was already on hand from last years' sailin' and I just got some fresh stuff to make sure I have enough on hand for this HUGE crowd. But in the end - what comes around goes around - plus it's not really all THAT expensive compared to the cruise and air cost, eh?

We use them mainly for our return trips. But they do tend to crease all the clothes. To get them really flat you need a vacuum cleaner, to suck out all the air. But I think you can roll them flat, keeping the value open as you go.

Hope this helps, but my explaination maybe lost in translation.

Good Evening All.
Hope that you had a great weekend.

Here things were good. Up until 4 o'clock. Then they got great.
Found out our grandkids have a new half-sister.
Her name is Alexis and the kids are calling her Lexi already.
Was going to take the kids to Chuck E Cheese.

Quick trip to the hospital to see them. Got to hold the baby.
Kinda neat holding something that small and young. 7 hours old.

Hope everyone has a great and short week.

Congratulations! I can't imagine how small she is. You must be very proud

Thanks Elaine, McCullough has a book on Teddy Roosevelt, that could be good, will look for it at the airport. Thanks. There is also one about Lord Nelson and his time in the Caribbean.

Sad to hear about Steve Irwin, musta been a freak event.

I'm thinking of bringing a new book of mine - The History of the World through Rum or something like that. Goes through a number of drinks explaining history. Should be interesting. Skimmed through chapter one - Barbados

Just a friendly little reminder with the space saver bags. I thought what a cool idea and bought some "travel" space saver bags that do not need a vacuum - you just roll them to get rid of the air. While they do pack more stuff in a smaller space, they also tend to make your suitcases heavier and now with the airlines even more strict with weight restrictions, you may find yourself over the weight before you know it. Coming home from our 14 day DCL Panama Canal Cruise, my airline allowed 2 bags each at 70 lbs each - our bags were 62, 63, 64, and 68 lbs :scared1: The girl at the airport just laughed and stuck lots of "HEAVY" stickers on each suitcase.
