Hmmm......are we getting macrame in our fish extenders then? :rotfl:

All this talk about British grocery stores is making me miss them.....I lived in Edinburgh for three years and do you know what I miss the most?

Fried egg penny sweets.

Seriously.

If no one has described these, would you please ::yes::

THANKS
Jan :earsgirl:

These???

These are candy?

It's a little known fact that the British consider receiving a pumpkin a sign of good hospitality (forget about pineapples).

Most British people feel a certain loss if they can't travel home from a holiday abroad with a pumpkin. The larger and heavier the better.

They may say otherwise, but that is just British politeness.

The British often exchange pumpkins on the Queen's birthday. And, little British children, leave their shoes outside the front door on Christmas Eve, because Father Christmas will leave a pumpkin in the shoes of good little girls and boys.

And the Easter Bunny hides pumpkins in secret places like behind cranes, powershovels and dumptrucks for little children to find as they search the construction site.

:rotfl2:

We're back. I took a few shots to share. We went out to eat at Stroudsmoor Country Inn in the Pocono Mountains where we live. It was very quaint and beautiful.

Me having a cosmopolitan drink....Cheers! Their champagne by the glass was a little too sweet for my taste.....so I switched to cosmos.

My DH John and my stepdad Ray. It was just the three of us for dinner.

250 pages before they close you down...

I think bobbin lace is a bit more authenic for that time period...

& to all a good night!!!!

(sorry woody... couldn't resist...)

I wonder when Tatting started. Hmm--off to do a search.

ETA: apparently tatting dates to the early 19th century.

That's a very cool gift! :thumbsup2 We received personalised lime-green wristbands which were fun...

BTW Jan, I know what you mean about "stuff" - we just seem to accumulate so much! Before we came to this house, we moved every 14 months or so and a regular de-cluttering was a by-product of that. We've been here 10 years next February and every available space is full of (that word again) "stuff"!!! Scary things are happening next year, as the garage (which, yes, you've guessed is full to bursting with "stuff") is being demolished and a new side addition being built!!! I have no idea what's going to happen to the contents of the garage but I really want it to be the start of a bright new stuff-free future... ;)

Since we married 39 years ago we have lived in 7 different homes or apartments. Every time before this the new house was larger than the old one so we did not have to get rid of anything. Of course the new house looked spacious so we bought things we liked and by the time we moved, the house was crowded. Not this time!

What was good about this move was that as I called friends to tell them we were moving, I told them the condo was small so we were getting rid of stuff and listed some of the things. 9 times out of 10 the person I was talking to was interested in some of the stuff. Some we sold and some we gave away. When they came to get it we had a nice visit so it was like a yard sale without the insanity.

A young friend was setting up her first apartment so she got a lot of things--furniture, kitchen utinsels, etc.

When I unpacked boxes here I found things that there was no place to display or use so I put them in boxes on the floor of a closet. I heard of a school having a yard sale to raise money for the 8th graders trip to Washington DC so I donated them there.

I tell people that my stuff is alive and well in Indianapolis and Northwest Indiana. :rotfl:

Jan :thumbsup2

We'll have to get Ian to post his BEST diplomatic portrait... :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

In case no one stated it, the photo is posted already--page 91, post number 1360.

And, with that segue, I invite all to post photos of themselves to be put into the collection!!

Jan :earsgirl:

ETA: I have insomnia so decided to repost the pictures and the list of cruisers below. I have updated them with info up to page 137 which is where I am now. If anyone has info for additions or changes, please post it and I will try to stay caught up.

Welcome aboard. Tortoly.

Tortolly Turtle Dude:cool1:

I'm happy that our thread is still going but I'm sad that so many people are moving on to other threads and other meets because they're moving on and the family of Thieves are leaving the nest.

I seem to be going through a lot of "empty nest syndrome" lately. Oh well, I'll get used to the differences and learn to adapt. Of course as soon as I get used to it and I like it, someone will be asking to move back in with us again. It happened to us before. It will probably happen again.

You wrote this 10-24-08 and now it is 11-28-08 and I know that Tom is planning to come to PA and you are planning to have him stay with you (unless there is a change since I read the other thread.) How nice that you had a sense of an impending change so that when the opportunity arose you were open to it. :thumbsup2

I grew up in Glen Cove in Nassau County

Yes, we will wait until spring or early summer we will be even closer than to our cruise :cool1: :cool1:

Hi! I am trying to catch up to you guys - just wanted to say I lived on Long Island for 5 years! I lived in Westbury, Lindenhurst, Wantagh... where else? I think that's it. I worked a ranch off Valentine Lane and loved riding the horses in the fall... I had a LOT of fun those years... love going upstate to the beatiful mountains. Love walking the beach (Jones) in November when NO one else was there... thanks for the walk down memory lane.

I have pictures of me sleeping on a blanket sucking my thumb when I was very little on Jones beach. I grew up there as a young kid before we moved out East on Long Island when I was about 7 years old.

We lived on Long Island's north shore 1970-1972--Kings Park. Tom worked in Melville and I took the LIRR to Downstate Medical Center for college. We went to Sunken Meadow State Park more than Jones Beach.

Jan :cool1:

Snow is getting to be a rarity around here. Maybe a dusting once a year, but more than that is a fluke.
Cold without snow is just pointless. Put me on a beach somewhere.:cloud9:

You could tag yourself with this!!
::yes:: yes you could!

Jan ;)

I'm booked on this cruise and the western right after it. I know a lot of my PC cruising buddies are on this one and some of them booked a B2B too. Can I get a roll call of everyone currently booked on this and the western B2B? Thanks.

me and John
Kathe (who I know is not cancelling)
Marilyn (who might cancel the second week)
Jackie (did you cancel the 2nd week already)
Monica (already cancelled the 2nd week)
Ian and Sukie (did you ever book the second week)
Jan (don't know)
Woody (don't know)
Cheri (don't know)
Connie (don't know)
Mandy (only booked this week)
Anyone else I forgot

We only ever booked one week.
We booked while on the Panama Canal cruise and are taking our kids and the new grandbaby who is due next month.

So, if the Jan above is me, nope :sad2:
