September 12, 2009 ~ Last Call for Tortola! Thread 3

If we get diverted due to storms, Nassau would actually be a first for us. I've heard I'm not missing anything by never having gone to Nassau though. I would much rather go to St. Thomas and Tortola, but especially St. Thomas since it's my favorite stop for shopping. I also like the Eastern better for the extra sea day, so I don't want to lose that either.

Our first storm interrupted cruise was cut short by only a few hours. We arrived back at PC around 10 pm Friday night instead of Saturday morning and we still had a nice day at CC too. Hurricane Jeanne was the culprit of that one.

Our second interruption was the next year and instead of Eastern we went modified Western, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Costa Maya and CC. If I remember correctly there were actually two storms on the Eastern side that chased us West.

Me neither.

It's my understanding that Butlin's has opened a resort in Nassau. We could get up a group and go as daytrippers, but only if you promise not to embarass me, Marilyn.

But Ian...

I thought you were going to do a Butlins wear retrospective on formal night???

Are you even aware what you're asking? I take it you are not terribly familiar with Butlin's are you?

I'm leaving my red jacket and bermuda shorts at home.

Hi...I know I have been MIA for a long time, but we are soooooo ready for this cruise! I have read a few pages of the thread, but don't have anywhere near the time to catch up...Sorry!

No Docs here!

We are going down on the 10th and staying the first 2 nights at Wilderness lodge villas, and then the last night after the cruise we are staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge...Can't wait it should be a blast!

Our first cruise (western) was in Sept 2005 which turned out to be the most active hurricane season in recorded history. I remember watching the weather channel for days before we were to fly down. Hurricane Ophelia was just forming off the coast of Port Canaveral and it stalled there for days. There was speculation that we'd have to change our flight in case the ship had to move down to Ft. Lauderdale and sail out of there instead. Thankfully, she started to head north the day before we flew down.

We ended up having spectacular weather the whole week and I remembed thinking after the fact how fortunate we were. The passengers that were ready to board the following Saturday for their eastern itinerary, however, were not so lucky. They had to divert to a western to avoid Hurricane Rita which began to form at the end of our week. Rita eventually became a Cat 5 storm and made landfall in Texas.

And Hurricane Wilma (another Cat 5) made landfall over Cozumel five weeks after we were there destroying the piers.

So even though I'm a little nervous about the weather next month, I'm feeling pretty good about our chances of having perfect weather. :goodvibes

That's right WOJ - keep the positive attitude and we'll be FINE! I too have been to Nassau and wouldn't get off the ship - so TORTOLA HERE WE COME!:cool1::rotfl2::worship::thumbsup2:wizard:

Got my Cruise Docs today :dance3::banana::dance3::cheer2:

Just noticed you are in Folly Beach. We were there 2 weeks ago. Have a friend in North Charleston, so we spent a day at the :beach: beach in the surf and playing bocce, had a nice meal and watched the sunset from the fishing pier. Simply wonderful! Must be a great place to live.

No.. No.. No.. I don't want to do another Western cause of storms :guilty:

Just Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee do NOT send us to Nassau :wizard:

I agree neighbor, NO NASSAU!!!!!!! Or no Key West. Absolutely NO Costa Maya either. I would take Grand Cayman or Cozumel though.

Lucky you! Wilderness is one of our favorites. We are DVC and own there, so we try to save points for our Christmas trip. Always have to visit for an evening, as our favorite lounge server is there.

Our future on this cruise is "so bright I gotta wear :cool2: shades".

Ok, as one who has never been to Nassau, please enlighten me. Why do people not like it as a port?:confused3

We were diverted a few years ago and ended up in Puerto Rico and Nassau. I agree that Nassau would be a disappointment. Now, a double dip in CC would be GREAT!

What??? Your Butlin's ears won't fit in the hat box? :rolleyes1

Looks like I'd better check the mailbox tonight, eh?

Does anyone else recall a while back they changed the address for where you ship cruise boxes to??? The IDS one I have is 9001 Marlin Street, Cape Canaveral, FL 32910. I'll go do the research, just wondered if anyone else remembered.

Need to look up the ship's number...gee, that might be on page one!

.

Here's the updated information on sending boxes to the ship:

Boxes Sent the Ship Ahead of Cruise - PLEASE follow these instructions carefully!!!!!! UPDATED AS OF 2/25/2009
• ONE box per stateroom, no exceptions.
• The package must have the guest full name, ship, sailing date, stateroom number or GTY if you have not been assigned a stateroom number.
• The package also must have a packing slip attached to the outside of the box that details the contents of the package. For prescriptions, a copy of the prescription is sufficient. Your list may or may not be read but it must have one. Write packing slip on the outside of the envelope.
• NO FOODS/DRINKS OF ANY KIND, LIQUOR OF ANY KIND, FIREARMS, ETC.. Items that cannot be shipped to the Disney Cruise Line Warehouse and delivered to the ship include: food products (any and all food products including baby food/formula), beverages (liquor, water, etc.), chemicals, and luggage. These items will not be accepted at the warehouse and will be returned. This may cause the dogs to hit on your box and that would be a bad thing.
• The required size of the cartons you are shipping down have to be about the size of a record storage box 12 inches on a side and should not weigh more than 20 lbs. (This has been asked personally by Dave Adams who is the owner)

Address your package(s) to:
Disney Cruise Line Warehouse
Guest Name / Stateroom # (GTY, if you don't know what it is when you send the package)
8633 Transport Drive
Orlando, FL 32832
Phone: 407-566-8196

In the bottom left corner of the top of the package put the following information: ATTN: HOUSEKEEPING

*Packing slip that details contents of the package (for prescriptions, a copy of the prescription is sufficient)

• Packages must arrive by Wednesday by 3:00pm for the 3-Night Cruise on the Disney Wonder (Thursday).

I'll be back with more fun info!

Jackie,
Where did you find this? My DH would love this!!! I don't know how you find everything out?:worship: Are you secretly employed by Disney?:thumbsup2 Vicki

Nah....I've just been over on the WDW trip planning forums since I'm doing a week there before the cruise

IF YOU NEED IT THE NUMBER FOR SOMEONE TO CALL THE SHIP IS:

888-322-8732 it's $7 per minute

I actually make a 1/2 page sign to put INSIDE my suitcase with my name and address and where I can be reached during my trip. If my luggage is lost and the outside tag is missing/destroyed, there is contact information inside.
