DH and I are from the UK originally. Moved out to California over 10 years ago now. Even I don't have a Blue Peter badge. If she has one, I will be so envious (but I am sure you could find them on ebay these days!)

-Kay

OK, I'll fess up. I lived in the UK for some years and Sukie is English.

However, I was something of an Anglophile years before all that. I blame PBS and "Upstairs Downstairs."

I suppose the name also did give me a certain affinity. For years, the only people who could pronounce my name properly were English.

You know, I had forgotten all about Val's knickers.

You know if anyone has a Blue Peter badge, I'll bet Marilyn does.

I think I looked on eBay for one, but they are reproductions. How sad.

I'll never forget seeing a Blue Peter where they showed you how to make a Filofax and a desk organizer. Both used sticky back plastic. The desk organizer required a washing up bottle.

Please, please, please don't tell me you love Benny Hill. That seemed to be what Americans thought was British Comedy. They still play it on PBS :scared1:

It was (and perhaps still is) a children's program in the UK.

Everything you wanted to know about Blue Peter on Wikipedia : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Peter

Famous for making things. An old joke is that everything was made out of washing up liquid bottles, sticky backed plastic and a pair of "Val's old knickers"

-Kay

I never thought of checking Wikipedia.
I at least guessed the genre right.

"filofax" ???

Cute.

I have also seen some where they are just gift bags or small totes (like you can get at Michaels to personalize) just tied together. Fish extenders do not need to be fancy!

Hey, that's what I did on the New Years Eve cruise!
Now, if I could just find it again.

Yes, if you find one, please pick one up for me. I saw that they have some types at Office Depot, 5"x7".

http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/346784/EXPO-Magnetic-Framed-Dry-Erase-Board/

Peg's at Walmart right now, checking them out. If that's a no go, there's an office depot right down from my house.

I picked up a magnetic dry erase board today at TArget in the $1 section. Also at Target in the school supply section, I picked up a better one for $1.99. I wasn't sure if the $1 one had a strong enough magnet. Don't want it falling off the door!

Man, we were just at Target and looked in the office supply section...didn't want to spend $6 for them. I did pick up two of the $1 ones as a surprise for two of my cruise mates (non-Disney, but appropriately themed for them). Shhhhhhh.........

LOL!

While we were just at Target, Peg found a cute bag and said "I could use this for a Fish Extender................oh wait, I'm not doing Fish Extenders". :lmao::lmao::lmao:

FYI FE PEOPLE: Saw some great stuff at Dollar Tree today. I picked up a gag gift for my family for our 'celebration' meal.

Let us know what you find. I have paper ears I have used before but may want to remake them.

DOOR DECORATIONS would be a good topic to discuss! The new cruisers might like ideas since they may not know yet that the doors are steel and all look alike so a decorated door helps you find your stateroom and is a fun thing to have.

I will start.

I have made some paper signs in a collage method, covered them with clear sitcky plastic (contact paper) to "laminate" them and put craft magnets on the back. Some started as colorful folders for filing. I cut the tabs off and then have a 9 x 23 inch stiff paper base for the pictures. I cut pictures from DCL advertising and used photos we had taken. I use them over and over as they do not have any dates on them.

I have also gotten the Mickey shaped paint chips from Home Depot, cut off the white part, put a magnet on the back and write names on them, glue on pictures or put on stickers. Then some curling ribbon attached in the back makes them look like Mickey balloons.

I usually make one magnet of the Cruise logo. This cruise it has Dori, Marlin, Crush and Squirt and the dates for our cruise and thread title. It is on page 1 post 1. I will copy that and print it out to attach to our stateroom door with magnets on the back.

I may make some name signs this year with magnet sheets. That is still in the planning stages.

Who else has ideas to share?

.

I haven't gotten to the end of today's posts yet, but we always printed on magnetic sheets (Staples or Office Depot). Anything you can print on your computer you can print on these. MAGNETS!!!! NOT TAPE!!!! Tape removes paint on the doors.

So Ian, I am curious. How do you know about Blue Peter?

-Kay

Ian is an honorary Englishman!;)

I'm a citizen du monde! Why, are you familiar with Blue Peter?

(I'm surprised Marilyn hasn't waded in, though she's probably asleep right now. It wouldn't shock me to learn that Marilyn has a Blue Peter badge.)

Sorry, no Blue Peter badge, though we were regular Blue Peter watchers. It was the 'suitable' programme for our childen to watch!!!

Please, please, please don't tell me you love Benny Hill. That seemed to be what Americans thought was British Comedy. They still play it on PBS :scared1:

-Kay

Now I'm insulted. :rotfl:

No I Benny Hill was not my cup of tea, and definitely not what I thought/think British comedy is about.

I am a big fan of Victoria Wood (I quite like Acorn Antiques), but lots of other stuff too. I was a HUGE French and Saunders fan.

Ian is an honorary Englishman!;)

I mastered the language, but never quite mastered the accent.

But Blue Peter would have been on too when you were a slip of a girl, wasn't it? I think it first started airing in 1958?

I can't speak about the other events, but I hear tell that Shots Around the Ship, A Stem to Stern Extravaganza is not to be missed.

Phew, you are definitely an honorary Englishman then!

Looking forward to this and many of the other organized activities! :cool1:

Well, we have quite a lot of accents as you know. Which one would you like? I guess the plummy English Gent:snooty::snooty: and not the more common Yorkshire, Brummy, East End or Geordie!!
