This reminded me of something that happened this past Sunday. I almost hit a woman on a bicycle with my car.

It was a narrow one-way street and of all things, she was riding on her bicycle and talking on her cell phone. She had it crooked, between her left shoulder and ear. She really got into her conversation and very suddenly, steered the bicycle in the same direction of the cell phone and out in front of my car. I slammed on the breaks. Luckily no one was behind me. She was impervious to any of this and kept talking on the phone, now in the middle of the street, shooting through a red light and into a 3 street intersection.

Same thing repeated, cars slamming on their brakes. I think everyone nearly had a heart attack. It was a miracle she wasn't hit.

She just kept peddling merrily along. Still talking on her cell phone.

:scared1: The no talking on cell phones while driving law should apply to bicyclist as well. If she had to talk while riding then she should have been using a hands free device. I can't imagine riding around the block while talking on my cell phone, let alone trying to negotiate thru Chicago traffic while on it! I say, that if you want to use the road like a car then you have to follow the same laws as a car should. Glad no one got hurt.

Is the "No Cell Phones while driving" law a law in all states?

--Kay

p.s. I think it should be and yes agree it should extend to all road users too. As well as no texting, no shaving, no applying make up.

Best I saw was someone who was talking on their cell phone whilst driving, with their dog on their lap.

How do people like that survive day to day? To be so blind as to what is going on around you. It's dangerous. :scared1:

Post cruise, we're staying at Boardwalk Villas for 3 days. Our flight leaves at 7 pm on Monday. We'll have almost 3 full days at the parks. We plan on enjoying them (gotta get my $$'s worth out of those annual passes we bought!). Hope to see some of my newly met cruise friends who will be spending time at the house of Mouse as well. Be sure to say "Hi" as we pass.

We decided to not make any ADR's as we will have been well fed on the ship and I for one will need to eat very little if I still want to fit into the same clothes I packed for this trip. I'll be the one powerwalking around the lake in the early mornings at Boardwalk.

No, it's not even a law in Illinois, but it is in the city of Chicago. I agree about the texting, shaving, and applying makeup. How anyone thinks that they can drive when their eyes are not on the road, I have no idea. Either get up earlier to finish your "toilette", do it after you arrive, or go "as is". Pull over if the message is so important that you must answer it now. We live in a "now" world.

I've never seen the law enforced. Even worse than talking, I've seen people texting while driving.

Hey Again

Thank You so very much for the well wishes. YES, that was my MAIN concern that no one was hurt.. My car is replaceable..

I did make sure that the girl's insurance agent knows that I have bruises and that one of my son's friend's hit her head.. It is down on record "just in case"

We spent yesterday in Hollywood Studios and today it rained all day so we went downtown Disney and shopped tonight..

Tomorrow we will attempt Magic Kingdom

Stacy,
I am so sorry for your problems. :sad2: Yes it does pour sometimes when it starts to rain  It will eventually will get better for you. Where in Virginia did the accident happen? Vicki

It was on I 95 in Prince William County
the cop who came out was from Manassas VA

That is a very beautiful area, but a VERY bad area for accidents. I don't know why but I despise I 95 through Va, and Georgia. We are in the Roanoke area, about 30 minutes from Virginia Tech.

I might be out of the norm but I would love to see NO cell phone use either hands free or other. I think it is still the distraction from driving. It isn't holding the cell....it is getting too involved in your conversation and not concentrating on the driving. Of course, I agree with the no shaving, make up etc. Someone here said earlier that it is a NOW world and it truly is.

We have never gotten to book Palo Brunch before boarding, even when we had the REAS package and were up at midnight. :confused3 Hopefully we will get lucky again to snag a ressie once onboard.

Anybody else up for the tequila tastings? That is a huge highlight of the trip for me! :cool1:

Wow! Is it that difficult to book brunch when you board? We plan to get there early--hoping to upgrade to Cat3 at the port for a good rate. So we should board early, what are my chances for booking brunch if I go right there?

Re: tequila tasting...not a fan, but I was looking at the posted Tortola cruise Navigators...I saw Martini tastings...that appeals to me!

I would advise that after boarding, you go queue up to make your Palo reservation. I don't think it's that hard to get a booking or make changes on board. Mind you, you might not get the pick of the litter, but I've never had had a problem.

My DH and I will be there post cruise for 5 days? Yes I believe that's right - I know all you OCD people are going... "what? She doesn't KNOW?" - I know - but I'm pretty sure that's right - and thanks to my sister we have a bunch of ADR's because she was sure we would end up with no where to eat! We rented from a DVR person who I'm not sure wants to be mentioned so in that case I'll just say - I AM SO HAPPY AND GRATEFUL - I think we'll have a lovely time and if you are going to the DIS meet - so I have a chance to "program" your face in my memory and then we run into each other after the cruise - we'll be sure and say HEY! I still have to purchase my park hopper tickets!;)

There she is... queen of the dis - replying on my behalf. HEY sister - see you after work and I'm looking forward to dinner with you and CHERI!!! Where is that NOTSOLITTLEMERMAID anyway? She hasn't posted on this thread in a while...

Never got up to Hetch Hetchy. Yet!

DH and I have hiked Half Dome but not in one day. We were going to hike in the back country for 3 days, but on our first night (camping in the shadow of half dome) a little mouse got into the bear box and ate through our meal supply, TP supply and one of DH's favorite t-shirts. We had to change our plans as we no longer had supplies for the full trip so ended up just completing half dome in the AM and then hiking back down to the valley floor. The view from the top of Half Dome is phenomenal. The climb up the dome itself is not that bad and again, here is a but - we were up and down the dome before the hoards arriving from the valley floor who were doing in in a day (I can imagine a traffic jam up the ropes at that time). BTW DH and I were younger and a lot fitter then!

While we love to hike there will be NO

Yosemite has something for everyone.

There are a dozen trails, and some of them are rated "easy." Some people do more climbing getting into their SUV.
