Hello All. We are 1st time cruisers and I have been lurking here for awhile. Finally decided to join (notice the Earning My Ears) the discussion and let you know that the boards have ears. It will be myself (Linda), DH (Ron), DD (8), and DS (5) on the trip with all you crazy, fun people. We will be participating in the FE and we have main seating. I'm all up for SATS and the Champagne Girls. We are from Ottawa Illinois. Can't wait to meet you all, and from now on I'll be participating actively on this thread.

Don't laugh, I have two friends who dress up in cop uniforms as the fashion police. They have ticket books and they stop people and hand out violations.

They typically do this at Halloween, but have been know to appear at other times of the year too.

I can't remember if white after Labor Day or before Memorial Day is one of the check boxes on their "violation."

DH called earlier to tell me about an upcoming business trip he needs to do at short notice. He suggested, as it's after my last exam, that I go with him and we add a couple of days on at the end!!! SO I've just booked my Upper Class flights with Virgin Atlantic (using his airmiles so it just cost around $370 in fees ) to................DUBAI!!!!!

We leave on May 31st and return the following Sunday... I absolutely cannot believe it as I was only talking with a fellow DISer about Dubai yesterday!!! Weird coincidence or what...? Anyway, I don't know where we'll be staying and I know I won't see that much of him BUT I DON"T CARE - it's going to be fab...
I plan to do a couple of city tours on my own whilst he's working so I get a good feel for the place.

So there it is. Thanks for reading as I just had to share...

I would love to go to Dubai. Oldest ds and I are just starting to learn Arabic, and we're planning on taking him over (a Yemeni acquaintance suggested Egypt) for a longish vacation in a few years.

You know- I still hear myself saying "I can't believe she's wearing white shoes" when I see someone in them after Labor Day. But they make white leather boots for winter, so--

Ok, I don't have a pic of me in the dress (at least not here at work) but I was able to find a pic of the dress I wore on the TA in '07. It's black with gold glitter all over it and a gold band that goes around the neck.

Home safe and sound! Now have four long months of 100 degree heat to survive till the cruise At least I can get in lots of swimming as training for this trip!

Big sister finally booked her air transport, so now we will buy our trip insurance and then make final payment..WOOO HOOOO!

Sister Dianne and I have decided to do the Dolphin Adventure in Tortola...anyone joining us? I think sister, Peg, and brother Paul are doing the 5 hour catamaran/snorkel excursion there.

I think St Thomas will be a ride (NOT GONDOLA) to the top of the mountain for a banana daquiri (or two) and some shopping around St Thomas.

Well....I'm off to pay my visa balance so I can replace it with the cruise..

Just got off the phone (2nd time today) with our Brother who is now PAID IN FULL and linked with us for dining. Can someone tell me who has 6604????

I did get to have dinner with Jackie and her sister Diane. So, now I know 2 of the 3 Rossell Sister jewels. I get to meet the third gem, Peggy on this upcoming trip.

Greetings from Kodiak, Alaska. We are on Day 58 of our cruise. Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Kobe, and Tokyo were fantastic.

We have several ports in Alaska before arriving in Vancouver.

we just joined the cruise - it's number three for us - but our first 7 day - we did the 4 then 5 now 7 - it is DH, DD - 6 and DD 2 turning three on the boat, and me - we're in 8558 - anyneighbors - also does anyone know if pur 2 year old can go in the club after she turns three since it happens on board?

any must do's different than the 4 night or the 5 night special last year?

NEWS UPDATE: Current fuel prices $61 and change. Let's keep that under $70 till after June 18ish, so we can have our fuel surcharge turned into an OBC! Tell everyone you know....no unnecessary driving. (especially if you know anyone in China!)

Yes, I have finally come out of lurkdom. I know that you are all a great bunch of people and I am looking forward to getting to know you all on the boards and on the boat. I have learned alot from you and will post when I have a question and when I just want to chime in.

Ian, yes there is a great amount of state that exists outside of Chicago. Ottawa is a little town at the crossroads of Illinois, o nly 1.5 hrs from Chicago. I get such a kick out of your sarcasticness (is that even a word????). Anyway, you make me laugh. Looking forward to hearing more from you. Hope you don't take offense from someone who lives "south of I-80" (I know I'm from "the sticks": ) Yes Illinois is a great state, even greater now that a certain governor is out of office. I will not be watching that wife of his on "I'm a celebrity, get me out of here". How can she (or he) even be considered a celebrity. Anyway, they will not get my viewership. I too, am a DVC owner (Boardwalk since 1998) and absolutely love everything Disney. We may take a day on either side of the cruise to hit WDW, but that hasn't been decided yet. I need to book my airfare. I may be able to get $83 each way on southwest. Need to find out if it works with my plans.

Jackie, congratulations on sticking to weight watchers. I don't think that is something I could do. I'm trying to lose a few also before the cruise, but I'm doing the counting calories thing. So I'm up for walking around the ship everyday as well. Gotta burn off the calories so that I can have the Konk Kooler that I've been hearing so much about. And still fit into the clothes that I've brought on board.

one of these days I'll figure out how to put in the ticker........

I have sometimes gotten out of the city. I've been to Galena and several times I've driven out to the Kane County Flea Market. I think I was also once in Springfield.

I do venture north, and have been to Milwaukee and Madison several times.

Everything gets a little fuzzy for me south of Roosevelt and West of Mannheim.
