Guys,

Forgive me I have been busy getting ready to go and not reading the thread. When is the first DIS meet?

Steve

Hello Folks.

Now I'll jump in. We're in/on the same boat, Sat. 9/10 Western. I'm closely monitoring TS Ophelia, like everyone else. She's no lady. I work for an NBC News affifilate and have access to the latest information and tracking. I'm waiting for the 5am update. Sounds like we could be in for some rough seas. My family dealt with Jeanne last year. Can you say, here we go again. What a bummer. Everything looked good earlier this week.

Steverog - 515pm on Saturday the 10th in the Promenade Lounge.

I hope it goes away by 7am on friday. That's when are flight leaves. At least we have all day friday to get there. I'm not to worried. As long as I get my starbucks at the airport I will be fine.

What's the latest on this damned storm?

right now, who knows, one news show says it is just stuck out there spinning around, but the weather channel says by Sat, it should be north of the port, up around Jacksonville, weather channel says it may hook to the right and just head out to see or it could come ashore around Jacksonville or in the Carloinas. :confused3
All I hope is it is GONE by Sat!!!!

I'm scared! We've never cruised before AND my husband is afraid to fly (he's flown before just not frequently) AND my 10 yr DD is also afraid to fly. We keep thinking if we can just get to Orlando without rough weather we'll be OK. We're flying in Friday night. But....I'm a little nervous about cruising in rough water. How bad is it for those of you who have cruised before? Could it last the entire cruise or do you think we'll go where the calmer water is even if it means going to different ports? I guess we are just a bunch of scaredy cats! Scared of heights and scared of water! I freaked out in a cave last year on vacation. Thought I was going to die down there. It's pretty hilarious now...

We might be in for some rain on Saturday during the sail away party. But all indications so far lead me to believe that this storm will pass us by.

Here's the most recent news from Reuters.

MIAMI, Sept 7 (Reuters) - Tropical Storm Ophelia strengthened slightly off Florida's Atlantic Coast on Wednesday and seemed likely to turn away from land but its path was too uncertain to rule out a strike on Florida or Georgia, forecasters said.

Tropical storm warnings were in effect for a 120-mile (190 km) stretch of shoreline from Sebastian Inlet to Flagler Beach in Florida, alerting residents to expect the storm within 24 hours.

Ophelia coalesced overnight from a loose swirling mass of thunderstorms and had top winds of 45 mph (72 kph). Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center said it could dump 3 to 8 inches (8 to 20 cm) of rain on parts of central and north Florida and southeastern Georgia.

At 8 a.m. (1200 GMT), Ophelia was centered about 80 miles (130 km) east of Cape Canaveral, Florida, and moving north-northwest.

It was expected to slowly strengthen into a hurricane, with winds of at least 74 mph (118 kph) and loop to the northeast away from the U.S. coast by Monday.

However, the hurricane center said its forecasting models differed greatly on Ophelia's potential path and, "Given the uncertainty in the longer time periods, possible landfall across northern Florida or Georgia during the next five days can not be ruled out at this time."

Here's the deal....from what I've seen, more than likely, the storm won't effect the cruise itself, just maybe some flights. And IF it does effect the cruise, it'd just be the first night as we're heading to Key West. The carribbean is clear right now (knock on wood). When the seas are rough it doesn't ruin things. Yeah, it can be bumpy and you can get a little queasy, but if you take Bonine or something similar (or you could try the patch) you'll be fine. They don't cancel any onboard activities. Shore excursions only get cancelled if the weather is unsafe in that port. BUT remember....we're goign to have the best cruise EVER!!!! Walt is looking down on us!

I just check the weather channel didn't find out anything,
then I checked MSN weather this what they have as a forecast

Sept 8 Wind 20-30 MPH, rainfall may reach 2 inches

Sept 9 cloudy with showers and thunderstorms

and for the big day Sept 10

scattered Thunderstorms possible highs in the mid 80s and lows int he mid 70s, 30 % chance of precipatation

that sounds good to me, looks like I am going to have a rainy drive through GA

Well, from what I can tell, you look ok. Maybe landing in some rain, but probably nothing too bad. We are flying out of Logan tomorrow night.

Hey,

You all see the change in port for the Wonder? The 3 night leaving tomorrow is sailing from Fort Lauderdale. Right now, they haven't changed our Saturday sailing, but you know that is always a possibility. I just want that thing out of the area for Castaway Cay day! My DD says that is her favorite place on earth, and she will be devastated if we miss it!
