Sept/Oct like?

Hi,

We have to change our trip from spring to fall. I was planning end of Oct. through beginning of Nov. and working around all the nighttime Halloween parties and avoiding Veteran's Day.

It just dawned on me - I wonder if end of Sept. through beginning of Oct. would work better?

Any busy days (conferences, whatever) I should know about?

Schools still out or in session?

Attractions still open or down for Halloween overlays?

We went 4 years ago at the beginning of Sept. and it was mid to upper 80's and too humid/hot for us.

What is end of Sept - beginning of Oct. like?

This is so stressful after I completely planned for April/May - had all reservations for multiple cities, etc. and now have to change it all. :( Our house is on the market.

Thank you for your help!

Halloween parties are likely to start on Friday the 28th of September. The Season on the 14th. When the season starts the Halloween Overlays on Space and HM are done and the rides open.

Weather is similar to the front of September, just a little cooler but can get hot. It can also be windy which effects fireworks and F!.

There is nothing huge to worry about until the 3 day weekend which also will be the days of Disneyland Gay Days. Columbus day on Monday the 8th. It's not super busy weekend just a little more than typical weekends.

Thanks for the reply skiingfast.

So if we were at DL the very end of Sept. and the very beginning of Oct. it sounds like the only thing to work our touring schedule around would be the nighttime Halloween parties?

Are the kids all back in school in most states by the end of Sept?

Anyone else been during this time frame? Your thoughts?

Thanks!

Almost all schools will be starting back up between Aurgust 27th and Sept 10th. That should not be a concern.

There is nothing that is going to make crowds worse than normal except the holiday weekend mentioned above.

So overall, would you pick an overlap of the end of Sept. - beginning of Oct. or an overlap of end of Oct. - beginning of Nov? And why?

We'd probably do 5 days in the parks and include a weekend for the regular nighttime shows.

The end of September and beginning of Oct.

Nicer weather.
Less rehabs.

The first weekend in November is possibly not going to have fireworks. Both times have lower than normal crowds.

Thanks. I'm not as great at planning as I used to be - and they keep making it harder.

Is there a link to a thread showing the Halloween party nights from this past fall, 2011? It would help to know, in case they follow a similar schedule this fall.

Hi! I'll just through my two cents into the mix here!!
I've gone twice in September. Once the second weekend and once the third. I have to say, both weekends were FABULOUS. I enjoyed them very much, and it wasn't crowded at all, though it did pick up on Saturday. :)

My only possible concerns with September are if they use the end of it (when we would be there) to put on overlays on some attractions - but I suppose they would be back up and running in Oct. and we would be able to catch them since we plan to be there during two months. Same with the beginning of Nov. some are shut down to remove overlays.

We are thinking either the end of Sept and beginning of Oct - OR - end of Oct and beginning of Nov.

The other (BIG) concern with Sept. is having it be too hot/humid. Our last trip to DL was 4 years ago right after Labor Day and the days it got up into higher 80's was a bit too much for us. And since it's shorter hours, you can't stop mid-day and then go back in the late evenings.

Crowd wise I know Sept. is usually really good once the kids are in school.

I'd really prefer to be there entirely in Oct. - in my book it's the best month for us - but I just think it would be too much to plan around the multiple Halloween parties that whole month. They keep adding more and more of them and it seems to be taking over the whole fall season. Now they are having some in Sept. too????

The Halloween attraction overlays will be done by late September.
In Early November Small World will be closed to get one, Space will only close for a day or two.

While it can be cooler at the end of Oct vs, the begining the chance of rain, a small one increases. Also the wind can be worse later, which can cancel the fireworks and sometimes close a couple attractions.

The main reason the parties have been in September is because of how the calendar falls. October 1st being on a Saturday they started it on Friday, a customary part night and season start night, and this year the 1st is on a Monday, so they probably will just shift the first part a few days into September. It is possible that there could be more. Look at the schedule in WDW that has many more parties, more per week and over a longer period. There they go mid september into November.

I'm not sure why you don't want to go to a party, they are great. Fun for kids to get candy, visit characters, see and dress as adults in costumes. Special parade and the best Fireworks show ever!. Plus the rides mostly have short waits even though a lot of people are in the park, as most guest focus on the above. It can also make a cheap extra day as last year they allowed party guest to enter the park at 3 or 4 pm with the party tickets.

It's not just that we don't want to go to a party (which we don't for a variety of reasons) but it's also having to plan around multiple parties over our 5-6 day trip which will include a weekend.

Based on this thread I wondered about maybe going the third week in Sept. and hope it isn't too hot/humid. But then maybe they will be in the process of overlays and so several attractions would be down mid-Sept?

I would almost pay someone at this point to plan my trip and I have always been a type-A planner in the past. It makes it harder that it is a road trip with stops at three other areas besides DL and those places don't have the tours and a show we want every day of the week, plus visiting friends in those places and their schedules. It's a tough puzzle to figure this all out.

But then maybe they will be in the process of overlays and so several attractions would be down mid-Sept?

I would say it's about 80% sure that Halloween will start on September 14th, meaning the overlay are done then.

20% it could take longer meaning it won't start until the 21st.

Okay, thanks for all the info. I need to sit down and try to figure out what will work best.
