Sept / Oct 2011

hi there

We were there last sept/oct ...the heat is just bearable, but it is the humidity that gets you. As long as you stay out of the midday sun [unless around the pool], drink lots of water- not coke and just walk at a gentle pace you will be fine. Limit big meals to breakfast and tea at night...salads and stuff for lunch, you may even find you dont want to eat at lunchtime.....which was great, I lost a few KG's:banana:

my DH this year is going to the gym 5 times a week to get in condition for disney:rotfl: last year the chaffing was not too comfortable, and he's not used to walking all day every day.So preparation is the key.

if you do suffer with heat rashes, make sure to pack cream in your day bags, plus blister packs and fresh socks. If in doubt, every park as a first aid station, they can give you creams etc.

we found because we were walking at a slower pace we go to see more, the things you'd miss when racing from one ride to the next.:rolleyes1

hope this helps
Thanks...very helpful. I can't wait.
We were in Cairns in Feb this year just after cyclone Yassi and I loved the heat and didn't even mind the humidity once I got used to feeling sticky all the time. And I sweat alot so I was never "elegant". I even went for a run most mornings I was so happy to see sunshine.
We're all trying to get in walking shape for our adventure. Parking away from the school this afternoon so we have to walk a distance back to the car.
Not long now. :woohoo:

So, If we can handle Queensland Summer Weather we should be ok in Florida....

My friend says its very hot in Kentucky - when I asked for the temperature is was only 34-36C which I find ok - since Melbourne has experience temperatures of upto 45c.

Anything in the 30's will be lovely....

Oooh, South Morang. I'm just round the corner in Eltham!

I just read that Sunday spots have opened up for the Wishes dessert party for SEPTEMBER (they had been showing up previously, but you couldn't book, they showed as full)... which means woo hoo, I was able to get a Wishes reservation after all!

25 Sept!

So yeah, if anyone else missed out around that time, check Sundays!

Franrose, it says on your ticker that your holiday is a suprise for your girls. When and how do you plan on telling them? :goodvibes

PS....apologies if you have already answered this question!!

I don't think I have, because it's sort of a work in progress lol! It started out a secret because with it being a group trip, DH and I were wary of committing early on. So we initially said yes we'd go, but were waiting to see if any of the 'rules' would change (kwim) that might put us off the trip, so we said nothing to our girls about it even being a possibility.

We've always said to them we'd take them when they are 10 (without specifying which one had to be 10 lol, but they're only a year apart in age). In some ways this is great because they don't really understand how far away that is so I can still say "ooh, we'd better not buy anything while we're out today because we're saving for Disney" and they go "oh yeah, good idea mum!" :rotfl:

We have a cruise trip coming up before Disney (just "bad" timing [of the very best kind!] that two or three years of holidays have ended up squished together, but both are organised with friends/family kwim) so if I get super excited I pretend it's about the cruise, which they do know about! But Disney... I am not sure they could handle the excitement of that if they knew it was seriously around the corner, so DH and I are thinking of not telling them until literally the morning of the flight out. It really will be a big SURPRISE lol. I think even a week or two out, they'd be beside themselves with excitement! And telling them on the morning will hopefully put them in the best kind of mood for the 14 hour flight ahead of them!

Haven't planned how yet. Maybe at the airport! :dumbo:

Just to let you all know that I'll be off the boards for a few days but will actually be closer in distance to you Aussies! My two sisters and I are taking our Mum to Melbourne tomorrow for a surprise trip for her birthday. She has no idea where she is going and doesn't know that either myself or my youngest sister are coming too as she thinks she is just going somewhere with our other sister! Will be so fun to surprise her tomorrow!

We are just there for two nights and on Saturday night, we are taking Mum to "Love Never Dies". So it will be a very quick trip and certainly not a shopping one for me (saving that for the U.S.!) but will lovely to be with my sisters and Mum as we all live in different cities (Wellington, Christchurch, Auckland and Sydney). :cheer2:

Oooh Travelmum, sounds awesome! Hope Melbourne puts on some lovely blue sky, warm weather for you! :thumbsup2

I have a couple of more ADRs which I'm canceling and I believe they're high demand, so I thought I'd offer them here first. Send me a PM. I'll leave it go a few days before I place it on the main cancel thread.

Just checked out what movies were on V Aust flight - I have a lot of catching up to do... all that time saying " no " to the pictures will pay off - We can sit back and relax and watch the films we have missed out on....

:surfweb: Not strictly Disney butt! It pays to double check your accommodation !!

Just surfing the Web and making sure I had the best rate at my acc re: SeaWorld- Spring Hill Suites and found that they have reduced their room rate by over US$30 per night - got my Dis Agent onto it and have now saved another US$150 :worship: Highly recommend having a Dis Agent...:cool1:

Thinking of going on an Airboat ride - has anyone done this before? Is it worth the money?

Our car hire has come down in price and I have been able to have our reservations adjusted. Only saved around $80, but still a saving.

I did an air boat ride many years ago. It was fun, but very loud. We are going to take the kids for a look, but not sure if they may be scared of the noise.

We did an airboat ride in May last year at Gator Park. I think we paid about $25 per adult and about $15 for DS. It included the airboat ride and entry to see the animals in gator park.
We all loved the airboat ride. It was a lot of fun and we were provided with ear muffs for the noise. If you have the chance, sit in the front.

We just looked at parking costs for long term parking at Sydney airport. Whooah - $300 for long term parking. Even at the budget places it was 280. I am now looking at hiring a car to drive from Newcastle to Sydney and then back again. That option will be a total of $200. Heads up for people who have to budget for this.....

OUCH:headache:

I think I would go car hire too! Is there a Sydney Airport Bus transfer as an other option?

The trip to the airport has been the hardest part of our trip to organise -we are in Penrith area, DH and I are in a stand off about it - I am happy to get the train - (we will have to get a taxi to the station) but he is adamant not to do that - (his words werent so dis friendly)

In a trip that is costing us 20k + I cannot bring myself to pay $200 to get to the airport - each way:scared1:, long term parking is $300 + for three weeks and as a family of five - it is difficult to get anyone to drive us.

We too are looking at hiring a car for the one way to the airport -he has compromised and we will probably get the train home.

Actually last year we were planning a trip to the Gold Coast and I had gotten some pretty cheap flights $420 for the five of us return, but when it came to getting to the airport it was too hard / expensive, and we let the flights go, and drove up.
