Any opinions of when would be a better time to visit based on weather and crowds and closures?

We went 2 years ago on 9/10 for my b-day. It was wonderful. No crowds, very warm, perfect for swimming, and few closures. We have also gone in October and it was great then too, but much cooler in the evenings. I don't think you'll go wrong either way. The end of October often you can hit Nightmare Before Christmas in the Haunted Mansion. If that is a big consideration I'd look into when the conversion takes place. You may hit it while its closed for this reason in October or be able to see it in it's Xmas splendor.

Good luck and enjoy!

September is very low crowds but can be hot
October is nicer weather but more people and the parks are not open as long as in Septmeber
closures are about the same very little if anything
I like september as the less people the better :lmao:

Oct you would see HMH NBC overlay....but may have IASW closure and Matterhorn has been know to go down in the fall as well, but not sure when

I would go with September. Both time frames will not have the Electrical Parade running at all and Fantasmic and Remember will be running on the weekends only. So entertainment wise, its equal. Where September really is great is crowds. I have been that time frame twice (dd's birthday is September 10) and it was just incredible. You didn't need fastpass except on the weekends. It can be hot, but the evenings are so pleasant. As another poster mentioned, the hours are shorter (during the week) but with the lack of crowds you don't need the longer hours as much anyway.

When we have been that time frame, Haunted Mansion, Its a Small World and Mattherhorn have all been closed. HM and IASW go down to install their holdiay overlays. One year it was just HM, the other year I think it was both. And Matterhorn frequently goes down just after Labor Day. Not saying that will happen, but thought I would mention it.

You can get great deals on the onsite hotels this time of year with the "stay four nights get one night free" deal. And that might very well be offered for both of your time frames.

Good luck with your planning!

Thanks everyone - we booked for 9/9! Last time we went in 2005 we caught Nightmare in Haunted Mansion as well as the trick or treat thing - which was fabulous - but it was a bit chilly. So, we've decided to do Sept and hope the crowds are as nice (love 5 minute waits at Indy) and a bit warmer. Plus truthfully, I'm looking forward to seeing HM in it's original form. Also IASW was closed last time - so crossing my fingers that Sept it's open. Thanks again for all your help!

Check out this website:

Right now they are showing Haunted Mansion going down on September 10. So if you plan on being in the parks on the 9th, you can just make it! Check that site periodically before your trip, they keep it pretty updated. They don't say yet when IASW will be closed, hopefully you will make that one! Glad you got your trip booked, it will be here before you know it.

Thanks for the link - that's really helpful! My DD4 is going to be so sad to find out that Gadget's Go Coaster being closed. :sad1: But, we'll have to make sure we hit the Haunted Mansion on our arrival.
