Hey Tony, I don't think anybody on the cruise has forgotten you! Btw- we chatted throughout the ship b/c we kept running into you guys. The last lunch day on the boat (I guess Thursday?) your kids sat with us at a big table in Topsiders.

Glad you found the DIS! :disrocks:

Friday, part 1 – Castaway Cay

We woke up at about 8am and we were still en route to Castaway Cay, scheduled to arrive shortly. I remembered the DIS tip to order room service for breakfast the night before and wished that I had done it. Then I remembered that I had also read on the DIS that the afternoon would be the worst time for doing laundry, so we dropped ours off and headed down for breakfast. As we walked into Parrot Cay, we heard the announcement that we were docking. “Quick, let’s grab something to go so we can be one of the first off the ship and get a hammock!”, I say. Erik looked at me and said, “we’re on vacation, the beach will be there all day” and we ate s-l-o-w-l-y. He threw our clothes in the dryer and we FINALLY headed out to the beach. At 10:30 the beach was packed, it felt like we were the last ones off the ship. After a few photos, we took the tram to the family beach and walked quite a bit in search for chairs under an umbrella. We eventually found one and settled in.

The view from there:

Side note: It was Fallon’s first time at the beach and she absolutely loved it. Lesson learned here: I should’ve taken her to a beach over the summer to see if she’d like it or not. Had I known she’d enjoy it so much, I would’ve made some plans to travel to the beaches at ports – something to try for anyone traveling with kids for the first time. OK, back to the trip report.

The pools on the ship were heated to approximately 85 degrees and the ocean was just as warm, it was wonderful. We splashed about in the warm water and it was a great morning of just having fun. Cookies BBQ was fired up so we walked over for lunch. We took the table by the little DJ hut so we could have a good view of the character dance party. It was really cute.

After some soft serve ice cream (chocolate chip cookie dough and strawberry) we headed back to our little area. Fallon fell asleep and we relaxed with a konk cooler (yum). :drinking: After some more swimming in the ocean (and a little bumming off of Christa's floaters, thanks!) and a quick look around at the souvenir shops, we headed back to the ship. On the way back I remembered that we never flew the kite I made the day before. I had also missed the second (and final) photo op with Captain Jack Sparrow which I had really wanted. We did, however, finally get a pic with Pluto for the first time all week (right as we boarded the ship). I tried to take some pictures from the verandah while waiting for the shower but it was too sunny so they came out bad. We were late leaving Castaway Cay due to 2 medical emergencies, hopefully both passengers are now long safe and sound.

When we came back to our room there was a small bag with a note hanging on the door. It was from the Flounders nursery staff. The card said that Tinkerbell had visited the Magic and noticed some socks were missing and so she brought Fallon a present – a 2 pair pack of Mickey socks. Totally unnecessary but how so sweet and thoughtful!

Coming up: our final dinner, packing, and our final Shutters visit?

We woke up at about 8am and we were still en route to Castaway Cay, scheduled to arrive shortly. I remembered the DIS tip to order room service for breakfast the night before and wished that I had done it.

We ordered room service for breakfast on Castaway Cay day and I am so thankful we did. When we saw the nightmare of people in the hallway - I can't imagine what the restuarants looked like! :hippie:

The restaurants were probably crowded earlier. By the time we made it to breakfast it was pretty empty. I think the boat docked just as we sat down. When we finished there were only about 5 families left in the restaurant!

We went up to Topsiders on CC day... It was crowded but we were still able to get a table... This was around 9 AM.

During lunch in Lumieres one day we had a waiter named Luis (from India, I believe). After that day we kept seeing him all around and he went out of his way to do little special extras and he wasn't even our waiter - talk about Disney Service!

He carried my heaping plate at the dessert buffet and navigated us to a table. The next day at Cookies BBQ he did the same thing. Then later on I went back up to get a cookie and some pineapple, he told me to have a seat and he'd bring it to me. BIG MISTAKE - he brought me a plate overflowing with pineapple and chocolate chip cookies. I had only wanted 1 but felt obligated to take at least a bite out of each so as to not fully waste them. :rolleyes1 In any case, he kept coming over and bringing us things. Not sure who had him as their waiter but we thought he was great and I even wrote about him on the comment card.

Note: this does not at all take away from our server Alexander, we thought he was great and wrote about him too.

Friday, part 2 – final dinner, packing, and more Shutters

We had a bit of an issue showering for dinner as the water was all rusty. We called Guest Services who informed us of some water pipe issue or something that had caused them to be shut off. This seemed to only affect us as we rushed to dinner late and our tablemates (along with the rest of the restaurant) were all seated and had already ordered. :confused3 Dinner was rushed and just OK, I thought the previous night was the best dining room meal of the week and the fact that it was our last night may have had something to do with it too. We all talked about how wonderful the past week had been. What was so interesting was that we all did different things yet all had an amazing time. (You can refer to JDBlair’s and Jajomo’s trip reports for their details.) We said goodbye to our great serving team and gave everyone their well deserved tip envelopes. Note: Flounders had an early closing time the last night so we didn't bother putting her in. Overall, everyone was looking and feeling sad that night. :sad1:

It appeared that we were the only ones left that hadn’t packed yet as many had their luggage out in the hallway already. We called and were told that it had to be out by 11pm. Everyone said the farewell show was great and that the ventriloquist was very funny. Erik and Fallon went to catch the Farewell Show but I opted to go to Shutters instead and review the pictures we had and compare with the many pictures we had taken the night before. Then we really had to go and pack! We finally started at about 9:30pm. The curtain separating the room was VERY handy that night. :thumbsup2 I realized we hadn’t ordered room service all week, they were incredibly busy but we finally got our cheese and fruit platter and I really wished I had been ordering them throughout the week! We finished packing (11:15pm, but our luggage was picked up), finished our cheese platter with some wine, and fell asleep knowing we’d be on our way home in just a few short hours. We had signed up for the new service that DCL offers where you tag your luggage and you don’t see it again until you arrive in your home airport. Note: When you do this, do not also add the character tag you’re given in the same envelope – it’s just 1 of the 2 tags.

We awoke early to go to our scheduled breakfast so that 1) we could properly say goodbye to Jac, Christa, and their families and 2) have some hot food. As far we knew, our luggage would greet us in Newark airport and we didn’t have to do a thing. Due to the Castaway Cay emergencies and our late departure, we arrived to Port Canaveral late. Had I known how much time we’d have to wait to clear customs, I wouldn’t have set the alarm for 5am so that I could go to Shutters one last time before breakfast (to take a final look and to pick up the crystal we had ordered). By the time we did pass through customs, the late seating was long done with their breakfast. They (whoever ‘they’ are) set up a cut-off of 1pm saying that the luggage they picked up and were transporting to MCO would go in 2 groups – those for flights before 1pm and those after. Hmm, well our flight was scheduled for 1:05pm so where would that leave us? :confused3

As we walked through customs (after an almost tearful goodbye to our new friends) we asked if we’d make it for our 1pm flight. The response, I kid you not, “you’ll make it, your luggage may not”. Wow – clearly the Customs people do not believe in the Disney spirit. “How will we know if our luggage makes it?” The response, and I couldn't make this up, “if your luggage doesn’t show up on the carousel at your destination airport, you’ll know it didn’t make it.” Again, :confused3 After just looking at her and blinking a few times we walked over to a supervisor to find out where our luggage stood (literally and figuratively). We gave her our luggage # and she said she’d go find it and move it if need be. We walked out of the terminal and saw the airline check-in. Tip: Pick up your luggage and check it yourself at the port, it’s literally right out the door and then you’re sure that your luggage goes to the right place at the right time.

The DCL transfer bus area was total chaos. People were walking all around, no one knew which bus to get on. Our names weren’t marked off of any list so anyone could have just walked on. We finally got on a bus and pulled out of the terminal (interestingly enough, other buses that were full before us just sat there). I don’t know how much time passed exactly, but I do know that all the car rental shuttles left long before we did. We finally got to MCO and checked Fallon in (we had received 2 boarding passes, not 3). I fully understand why DCL says to not book a flight before 12, the airport was a madhouse. We got on line to go through security. A security guard came over and told us to move to this other line because it was wider. This was very confusing because 1) it was much narrower than the original line and 2) it wasn’t moving whereas all the others were. Turns out we weren’t moving because we were already going through the scan while the other line then split into 10,000 to go through the scans. We eventually made it through, had some lunch, and boarded the plane.

Princess (as every CM refers to little girls on the cruise) was a royal pain the whole flight back. It was her naptime so I thought it’d be a perfect time to fly but instead she insisted on screaming on and off throughout the entire flight. :scared:

To any DIS member that may have been on either flight and is reading this, please accept my apologies.

To any DIS member that’s a CM on the Magic, thank you for the all the wonderful memories.

And finally, to my fellow DISBoarders, thank you for being a part of this amazing experience. :thanks:

If anyone has any questions on the trip or traveling with a toddler, do not hesitate to ask. I’ll try to add a few pics tonight before I mark this officially ‘complete’.

And after getting back to reality . . .

There is no ordering multiple dishes at home, there is no menu to choose from. There is no turndown service. Worst of all – there is no Mimi. Anytime Fallon now sees an image of Mickey or Minnie she screams with joy, “MIMI!!!!!!!” She even dreams about them as sometimes we hear her saying in her sleep, “Hi Mimi”. :cloud9: Here’s the real kicker – at Sesame Place this past weekend she called a character Mimi, before if she didn’t know them she would just call them Elmo. I guess it's official - her love for Mimi has surpassed that for Elmo. We haven’t rebooked yet because I want to wait until she’s potty trained. We’re planning on going in 2009, so as soon as the dates come out we can’t wait to rebook (using DVC points, which is why we didn’t book a dummy date on the boat).

Some additional tips:
1) When you drop off your pillowcase/photo mat/whatever to Guest Services specify who you want to sign it, we got the “basic” characters. I’m actually thinking to sign some more with my left hand and call it a day . . .
2) You don’t have to be the first to get off Castaway Cay, there's plenty of room for everyone.
3) Do NOT miss the musical shows, they’re wonderful. For that matter, all the entertainment is top notch so take advantage and attend!!
4) We were able to easily get hours for Flounders, just ask.
5) Any “firsts”, try them out at home. You may be pleasantly surprised (or at least be better prepared).

Thanks for sticking with me this long and reading this TR. I hope you all enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Thanks for sharing your report! I read it with interest since I am cruising with my Ds's one of which will be 17 months at time of crusing.

It doesn't appear that Fallon had any problem going in to Flounders Nursery? I am quite concerned with this with him because he has really been baulking a lot lately in any babysitting situations even though he goes to daycare.

Also I'm wondering if you have any tips for keeping them occupied on the plane as this is my other big worry!

The staff at the nursery was really great. She cried a few minutes the first time but they jumped right in and distracted her right away. I was also concerned she'd watch tv, we don't allow it at home now and there's no tv in her daycare, but if there's a tv on in any room she sits in front of it so we basically never have a tv on when she's home. But anyway, we asked them to try to distract her to keep her away from the tv and they said she didn't watch any. There were enough toys to keep her busy and there's also a slide for the kids.

Honestly, the only time we put her in the nursery during the day was for Palo brunch. The other times were all in the evening and we only started doing it towards the middle of the trip - putting her in from 8pm or 9pm-midnight (their closing time). We'd bring her pajamas in her diaper bag and drop her off either after dinner or the show.

For the plane definitely bring a stuffed toy, a book, and some favorite toy of his. Erik had accidentally packed the toys I left out and she was really cranky on the plane, fortunately for us (and the rest of the passengers) the kid behind us had a Garfield and he started poking her with it so that got her giggly.

Have a great trip!

Thanks! Our other son will be along so we will be bringing a portable DVD player to keep him occupied on the plane. But I doubt that will hold the little ones attention. I'm just nervous because we've never flown with both of them before and never with one so young! Fortunately it is a non-stop flight!! Which I planned!

I'm hoping to put him in the nursery a couple of nights and get him to sleep before we take him there. We'll see how that goes..

I often saw them rocking little ones to sleep when we'd drop her off. They can take care of it, no worries! They'd ask us when we wanted her to be put to sleep when we dropped her off.

of Castaway Cay to my post on page 3.

With that I'm officially done (but available for questioning)! :cool1:
