Sept 25, 2011 Wonder - Mexican Riviera

At LAX... heading in the other direction. The first leg begins now!!!! Super relaxed but staring down the guy who is taking up the entire charging station (haha).

Can't wait until next week!!!

dining qs -- do they Really make men wear a suit jacket for Semi-formal?
and i assume jeans are ok for casual nites..

You can get away without wearing a suit jacket on SF night. In fact, you'll probably see everything from polo shirts to tuxedos

We just cruised on the last Alaskan Wonder cruise and even on formal night, men got away with just a nice shirt and tie (no jacket). It's not like they'll turn you away at any of the regular restaurants. Palo is a different story though. ;)

right. re palo. but with a baby and DD, no palo for us. ;)
thanks. ya we did alaska pre-kids. ah so nice to enjoy dinner and free time. lol.
with DD she was under 2y, it was really hard to do Formal dinners. they jsut lasted Sooooo long. i remember having to leave after an hour and not much food has been served at that point. So im not sure what we will brave on this trip. maybe no formal or SF at all.

I don’t want to bring up negative energy BUT I’ve been thinking anyone else kinda or somewhat worried about all the problems in Mexico as were on the cruise. Personally for us, we don’t think we’ll get off the ship (if so staying close by port) We think we’ll be staying back & enjoying some empty areas since people will venture out. We have been to Mexico before & the reason we booked the cruise wasn’t for its location it was because it was Disney & its 1st time on West Coast.

Just curious of everyone else thoughts…

We were in both ports of calls PV and Cabo in January with Disney and felt perfectly safe with my family. Most of the violence in Mexico is in the boarder towns and the killings and violence is directly related to drugs and territory wars.
My mom is in law enforcement and she gets regular FBI issued updates regarding the situation in Mexico most of which are to graphic to share with the general public but again that is all boarder town violence related to drugs.
So far nothing regarding PV or Cabo. At this point it would be more dangerous for you to walk or drive through some US cities.

Just had the house sitter over for a run through together with the neighbor who is going to let the dogs out lunchtime whilst the house sitter is work. That is another job crossed off the list.

We have an Uncle stay at our house whenever we go away.

Unfortunately for us that is not an option as our closest family member is 6000 miles away in England, and if they were paint $1000 for the flight out they would want to see us. The house sitter though is a friend of one of our neighbors and she charges us $25 a day whereas to put our 3 dogs in kennels would be $75 a day minimum. She moved in for 3 weeks last Christmas and loved the fact that she had room for her 4 adult children and her partner and his grown up kids too. For any of you that watch The Batchelor her eldest daughter is Marissa who was on with Brad (Round 2). I had never watched the Batchelor before, but, of course, had to watch it now.

Hi all!

We were on the last Alaskan cruise ending Sept 6 and had a WONDERful time! We met some awesome crew memebrs who you will just love. I'd like to send a couple a little something in thanks for all they did, but not sure how to send to a port especially when they head to LA. Just wondering if anyone who might be on this cruise might be willing to take a little something for us and leave at guest services for those crew members?

Thanks for your help!

PJ

If you need anymore help I am available as well. I am in california and we are leaving saturday late night. :goodvibes

Just to save you all the headache I am dealing with... please remember to pack your camera chargers. Each charger is so specific to each camera that it is rare, if not impossible, to buy them in stores. I am having mine shipped and should be here on Wednesday. Unfortunately I will have missed some amazing photo memories by that time. One camera (DSLR which isn't beach friendly) is still trucking but the beach/underwater camera died fast.

I have perspective on this as I am on my dream vacay and we are all healthy and safe... still puts a unneeded bump in the road... so throw them in your suitcase now!!!

I love the DIS Boards!

Thanks. It is on my packing list. We went through the same planning for 5 weeks back to Europe at Christmas and at the time rather than having to pack multiple adapters too made sure that I had 3 separate batteries for my camera. Is there anything I can bring with me for you. If so let me know. Sorry to hear you are missing out on some photo ops.

Sigrid

Happy Monday all...let’s hope this week flies by and SUNDAY ARRIVES...FAST!

I'm working till Thursday & will start the packing tonight. Each evening we have something planned to get out of the way. Starting to get nervous & excited at the same time. Hoping the DS (1) does well on the drive to LA & cruise (this is my nervous part settling in.)

I hope you all have safe travels & see you Sunday!

:cool1: :thumbsup2 :woohoo: :yay: :cheer2:

I just typed this whole long crazy post and then hit enter to move to the next line as soon as a Windows Update popped up and then my computer restarted. Grrr. Here is the 30 second version:

Had to leave work early b/c son hurt himself at school. Chipped tooth... nothing too serious. Super happy. Super stressed I left work incomplete and owe some favors to co-workers (happy to repay but don't like leaving messes for others to clean up).

Needless to say between Jennifer in MI's DS (broken finger) and my DS (tooth accident)... I am happy to announce that our cruise has met it's illness/medical problems quota and the rest of you are free to travel safely.

Now I need to do a 1,000 things as we leave at 9am and I still am not packed. Yes... I am back on the couch overwhelmed staring in horror at the chaos in my living room. (While haven't packed... I do have a lot of fabulous piles of things to bring.) I am not feeling "excited," though I am happy to go, I know I'll wake up ridiculously early tomorrow ready to scream with excitement though. Alright... I'm booting myself off. See you all next week!

So sorry to hear about his tooth. A couple of my kids have done that. And, Will did not break his finger. Thank God! I thought I updated here.

Not worried at all! Nope.

Sorry to hear! You are right though that you are on a wonderful vacation and y ou will have all those memories in your head!

So, we have been on vacation for a week now. Meg is still very much on east coast time, so that has been hard. We have been to Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Sedona, and now Scottsdale visiting family (and Sigrid!). We leave here on Wednesday and we will spend a few days in LA before the cruise! Cannot wait, but I want this week to go slowly! I love the anticipation of a vacation!

So I'm sitting here @ work & all that is on my mind is CRUISE! This is going to be a long 4 day work week for me & I do need to get moving because I have stuff to take care of...ANYWAYS

Well I'm thinking I've been meaning to ask the following:

Should I pack my kids own water wings (DD 4) & life jacket (DS 1) we should have a bit of room for them..more so for her because she likes being more independent & him I we can hold in the water.

FEEDBACK PLEASE...thanks in advance.

Depends. Where will you be using them? On the ship, your youngest can only go in the splash pad area. (someone correct me if I am wrong. Last time we cruised, non-tty trained kids had to stay out of the pools.). So, he wouldn't need it on the ship. Your dd can swim in the Mickey and Goofy pools. Mickey pool is quite shallow. Goofy is fairly deep. Maybe 4 or 4 1/2 feet deep? If she is not comfortable in that deep water, you may want them.

If you want them for an excursion, I would check with the excursion people. I bet they will have floatation devices available.
