Sept 25, 2011 Wonder - Mexican Riviera

OK I have a question aimed particularly at those who are going to "wing it" in port. Although we are going on the "city tours" so to speak I realise we will get time to shop etc and I need to go and organise currency...am I right. I just have no idea who much/little or do the locals prefer American dollars. Please help as I realise I need to get this done asap.

Sigrid

We went on a Mexican Riviera cruise in March 2006. In both Cabo and PV, we were able to use American Money when shopping at the flea markets in both places and at the little shops near the port. My BIL bought some jewelry at a jewelry store in PV and they took American $$ as well. Hubby and I went to HOOTERS for a drink and some lunch in PV and they would not accept American money so he had to go outside to a street vendor and have the street vendor change money for him so that we could pay for our food. So, we got the impression that the local non-chain vendors preferred American money. We do not plan to exchange very much, maybe $20 to have just in case.

I hope this helps!

There is no need to change currency, American dollars are welcome and accepted everywhere, we were there in Jan 2011 and American dollars worked fine and so did our debit and credit cards.

Thanks. I did actually search on the forums after making this post and will exchange a little as a precautionary measure but also make sure that I have plenty of small bills for purchases. The only thing I did take note of is if you plan to make a purchase of more than $100 you have to use mexican. I know we will be going to the local glass factory, but I have no doubt they will take credit cards, but as I said it will be precautionary. I am letting the credit card companies know we are travelling, and, although I have done this every time we have travelled they have always put a hold on our cards (yup really annoying) so I will exchange just a little.

Thanks again for everyone's advice.

We are doing the park and cruise deal with the Doubletree. We're staying on in Dana Point after the cruise for 6 days so already have tickets to go to the Halloween party on the Monday night and will go back for at least another full day at Disney. We've still never stayed there, but there's always another trip.

Sigrid

we are going to Disneyland for the week after the cruise we also have tickets for the Halloween party

I'm gonna need more info on the gelato place... stat! I have a gelato addiction. Not something that is easy to have where I live... the gelato in California doesn't come close to Europe. I am going to have to test (AKA eat a lot) in Mexico to draw some comparisons :rolleyes1

Hi everyone
It's just after 1pm Friday here in Australia.
We leave for LA tomorrow morning.
I still have some packing to do but most things are organised. I'll finish when the girls come home from school.

I just wanted to wish everybody safe travels.
We'll see you on the Wonder!:banana:

Random Question... can we use a Photopass on the cruise? We just went to DL this weekend and got a couple photos, and I just wondered if I could keep using the same photo card and bring it along on the cruise? Does anyone know if the card only works for a certain amount of time or can I use it every time we go back?

We'd love to be there...DD and I.
Can you let me know as we have sent a "yes" we would like to be there before and haven't heard back.
I don't have enough post to PM you.

CONGRATS TO YOU BOTH..WOO-HOO

Hi all!

We were on the last Alaskan cruise ending Sept 6 and had a WONDERful time! We met some awesome crew memebrs who you will just love. I'd like to send a couple a little something in thanks for all they did, but not sure how to send to a port especially when they head to LA. Just wondering if anyone who might be on this cruise might be willing to take a little something for us and leave at guest services for those crew members?

Thanks for your help!
