Sept. 23, 2012 Pacific Coast - Wonder Cruise

I actually know the answer to this - go on the page where you book on line gifts. It is listed in that. It shows room decorations, wines etc.

You are my hero! It takes you to an order form with a phone number (which is just the DCL number), so I called and got everything squared away.

Thanks again!!

Just wondering if the Disney characters have special costumes they wear for the various nights? For example, on "pirate night" do any of the characters have pirate costumes on? Are there opportunities to get your picture with them in special costumes? Or can you just get you picture taken with the characters in their traditional look at the designated times posted in the navigator?

They will be dressed in theme clothing, pirates on Pirate Night, formal wear on Formal night, etc. But word of warning, it will make you want to get character pictures every day because the outfits are so cute.

When we did the MR cruise, the day we arrived in Mexico, they had traditional Mexican clothing on (not sure if they will do that on our Ensenada day or not).

Did anyone else wake up to see this in their DCL reservation summary?

The last cruise we were on I did not prepay my tips. They sent my suggested gratutities envelopes about two nights before the cruise ended. I waited later in the day to go tally my bill and confirm everything and ended up in a large line up, cause they do not just automatically charge you have to go tell them to charge it. So I ended up wasting a precious hour. This time around I am prepaying. If you do not prepay, I suggest you deal with it as soon as you get your envelopes in your room.

Just FYI....
it's changed...
Per Disney Web site...
You can choose to pre-pay gratuities for your party up to three days before your vacation begins by contacting Disney Cruise Line; or, for the convenience of our Guests who have not pre-paid, the suggested gratuity amounts will be added to your onboard account, based on the length of your voyage as shown in the table above.

If you wish to modify or make changes to the gratuity amounts or would like to pay in cash, please stop by our Guest Services desk, located on Deck 3, Mid-ship, at anytime during your sailing.

Ergh, I discovered today that the USA doesn't have Duty Free on Arrival, only Departure. :( We'll haave to bring our Df with us from Auckland and remember to take it off the plane. I'm so used to being able to pre-order DH's requirements and collecting when we come into NZ on the way home that I know I'll leave it all onboard the plane after such a long flight.

There's duty-free on the ship too. The alcohol is delivered to your cabin on the last night, so you can't drink it on board.

WendyinOC any chance you could update with your daughters name? I know some of us are doing personalized gifts and just want to include her. Also shopmom how old is Hudson?

Thanks!

Oh that's interesting! DH is already perusing the NZ DF sites to pre-order as we have two weeks in USA before boarding the Wonder and he likes his whiskey or gin or something as a sundowner when it's been a long hard day running the small people. I should probably be thankful that he's not a full time Dad otherwise the supermarket bills would be higher I guess.

Gail - it's always good to have USD as your home currency, you can cash it nearly everywhere I've travelled without issue. Now NZD not so, doesn't help it's highly coloured and covered in plastic so it looks like toy money to suspicious Forex dealers.

This time in two weeks we fly! DH has just wandered in saying 'is there anything we actually need to do for the trip to America'. I've printed him out an action list and he's wandered off looking slightly worried. What does he think all these plastic files I'm constantly ferriting thru contain?

I'm quite perturbed by all the closures at Disneyland the week prior to our sail date. That's when we are going and there seems a heap under refurb.

Its been that way the last few years. They waited far too long to take care of things and are now playing catch-up. The success of Cars Land supposedly inspired the corporate types to green light more improvements in the resort, so we'll have a few more years of construction walls around the place!

ONE MONTH! How crazy is that! :yay:

I have a few more follow up questions, just to make sure I'm not missing anything that I should do BEFORE we leave!

1) Prepaying tips, is that just so you are charged beforehand? Is there any benefit to this or is it just a money management thing? If I wait til we get onboard, they will just charge my on-board account, is that correct? Somehow I don't feel like I'm saving any time or anything by prepaying, is that the right understanding?

It's primarily a budgeting thing. You can prepay and have the tips appear on your charge card before the cruise, then that's one less charge that will be on it afterwards. I usually just have them added to the on-board account.

On our first DCL cruise you got envelopes for people and you put amounts on the envelopes, then handed them out at the last dinner, etc. I like the new way much better.

So my wife went to Goodwill and came home with her pirate costume. She walked out of the closet and I guess my eyes bugged out. wow! Then she informed me she would be wearing a blouse under the thing, and not to get too excited. I think I'm going to like pirate night!

Does anyone have a way to actually see a deck plan of the Wonder WITH the stateroom numbers? Disney has the absolute worst cruise line web site in the industry ... showing a deck plan gives you a graphic, but none of the cabins are marked with a cabin number. Instead several cabins are highlighted by type, but you can't see if your cabin is near the elevator, next to a work area, etc.

I can also never log into their site; every time I have to have it send me my password, and that can take a day or two. I called today, and the agent had me go to the Disney Parks site as problems with the cruise site are very common. I still can't log in, even with the password I finally got.

But, what I'd really like to see is a deck plan with stateroom numbers like every other cruise line has!

I like the one posted right here - at least for the Magic and the Wonder.

If you scroll down some, there are individual decks that you can pull up as well. I wish some graphically gifted person would do that for the Dream and Fantasy.

We are trying REALLY hard to figure out how to get to Balboa Park with all of us (5 adults, 3 kids) and are struggling. We looked at renting a car but nothing is super close

There's 8 of us too! (5 adults and 3 kids!)

Prime Time Shuttle will take you but it's $65 each way. Still works out cheaper than the Shore Excursion but I was hoping to get the price per person down even more.
