Sept 2012 car rental......

In July, I got a Visa discount from Alamo. I called because I couldn't find anything online. It was $267 (all fees) for 15 days. I'm picking up at MCO and dropping off in Tampa. While on the phone, I couldn't get my daughter on as a second driver with that discount, even though both of have an Insiders card. She told me on the phone, that they did have an discount for the Alamo insiders. It ended up to be $286.47 (all fees) with two drivers included. This is for an economy car. I don't know the code because I did all booking on the phone.

I don't think Dollar is the only car rental company that adds damages after a rental. From what I read in the travel section of the sunday paper it seems there are stories from all companies having done this. I guess our only protection is to check the car thoroughly before you leave the lot, and have them mark any damage, even the smallest spot you see. Of course, I say this now, but will probably forget to do so next week in my excitement to get to the hotel!! Ten more days...can't wait!

There's any way to stop that from happening, If your rental has a ding/scratch on it make sure note it on your rental paperwork and take a picture of it with your camera or cellphone. You can prove it was already there when you got the vehicle..

Yes, we always make note of scratches, etc. on the paperwork even though staff will usually say that there is no need to. We prefer making note of it. We try and remember to take a picture, but forget most of the time.

Dollar rates on "city specials" are way down this a.m for September, I check the 1st and 2nd week. Minivans are back down under $300 :hyper:

I tried this and it gave me the warning that a physical coupon might be required. Makes me a little nervous to book it. But it's $20+ cheaper than Costco.

That is a default message anytime you use a coupon code. Don't worry about it. What you are using is an electronic coupon code, you could not get a physical one if you tried.

Just got an Insider's email from Alamo for a free double upgrade. Went from a compact (Nissan Versa) to a standard (Ford Fusion), 9 days for $150.04 total.

:cool1:

Which really means you went from a compact to a full size as we don't have a Standard row at MCO.

Anyone else find Alamo way up today?

I have a minivan reserved with alamo for $257.34 (all in) from 9/13 at 1130pm til 9/18 at 2pm. I checked again today-hping for little drop- and the rate is over $600! What the heck?

I used 7015309 and coupon AD2359FDF......

Try using Costco Code 7014627 and Coupon Code AD2359FDF for Alamo Rental.

I just booked a full size car out of Ft. Myers with Alamo for 97.64 for 1 week -- Sept 11 to Sept 25.

Great Rate!

I was just rechecking my Alamo ressi hoping for a lower price. I used the Costco code and the AD2359FDF $35 off coupon. I am getting a message that the coupon cannot be used. :confused3:confused3

Any ideas???

What are your dates and times? Kind of hard to give you any insight with such minimal information.

I tried using the Costco code with the AD2359FDF coupon last night for my dates too (9/29 - 10/10) and it rejected the code. I have a reservation using the same combo already, so maybe they changed it so you can't stack those two discounts, or it could be a temporary glitch. I'll keep trying.

Ok, a couple more newbie questions! I read this on the August2012 car rental thread, post #749:

Booked a standard with Alamo there were minivans in the standard aisle. Pretty good score, $155 for ten days and drove out with the minivan.

But gmeh1 mentioned above in this thread that there's no standard aisle at MCO. ??? I'm guessing she meant the fullsize aisle?

We are traveling with our 4 kids so we *need* a minivan, no other options for us. Can you see what's available before you check out at the kiosk? Can I reserve a minivan AND a fullsize, and if there's a minivan in the fullsize aisle can I take it at the fullsize price? That way if there isn't a minivan on the fullsize aisle, I still have a good rate for the minivan from its designated aisle. Is there a penalty for holding two concurrent reservations and only using one of them? Is this bad car-rental form?

Thanks again for helping out. Y'all have already saved me hundreds of dollars, and I don't leave for a month! :)

Coupon worked fine for me this a.m, my dates are Sept 8-15. Prices are crazy high again :worried:

It was quoted $530 (something) yesterday for a mini van with this code.

I still have $230 with Dollar.

OUCH !! that's crazy.. Enterprise thru the Costco site is low this morning on minivans.. I'm still holding out hope that after the 3 day weekend, we should see last minute deals :surfweb: it's been that way every year for the last 5 trips.. this year however things have just been weird :confused3
