Chapter 6 - Let's Sea the World ...or not
Today is our Sea World day...we were fortunate enough to get $25 tickets to SW with 2nd day free. Woo Hoo! I know DD loves fish and can't wait for her to see Shamu. We have some
Lego pieces that are marine animals (Penguin, Orca and Polar Bear) so we take them along so DD can see the real animals right next to her Lego pieces.
We leave for SW at 8:40am which is once again really good for us. Hardly any traffic and we sail right into the parking lot. We are amazed that there is like no one in the park. We walk toward their water ride and really only see about 20 people. Woo Hoo!! It's going to be an AWESOME day! (yeah, right...)
Our plan was to get to park at opening, spend all day at SW and leave around 5pm. DD will nap in stroller, while DH and I go on rides or see the exhibits.
Well....
first ride up is Journey to Atlantis -- think of Splash Mountain but with a different theme. Here we are: we both got really wet (shorts were soaked).
I like these series of photos, so you get a lot of them...however, they tell the story:
Just when you get down the hill, you think all the water is over -- nope! They have water cannons that spray out more water:
Yep, DH in his trademark bandana....
My turn:
This is me pretending to me scared of the water -- I think I surprised the guy behind me
And then of course I FORGOT about the extra water cannons -- so this is my real surprised look
While DH is waiting for me to get off the ride, they go into the gift shop which has a really cool floor -- you walk right on top of the mini-aquarium
A closer look
Some beautiful jellyfish
And we continue our "Crazy Hat" tradition
On to the floorless roller coaster Kraken to dry off
Front Row Bay-bee!! That's me on the end in pink/red with my Croc-less feet
I'm on the far right, getting ready to go through a loop-de-loop
While DH and I take turns on Kraken, poor DD has nothing to do...
So we go to see Pet's Ahoy (pet show) and DD loves all the dogs, cats, birds, pigs, ducks, etc.
Then we go feed the dolphins -- this is amazing!! You can feed them, touch them, get splashed by them...the next best thing to swimming with them!
This is me feeding one
And DH feeding one
DD's hat on the top right -- she just giggled and smiled at the dolphins -- except when they splashed us
They let us pet them
I know this looks like a frown, but it's not - probably DD just saying, c'mon mom, no more pics -- I want to see the dolphins
From here we ate lunch and went to Shamu's Playground so we didn't miss the 1pm Believe Show with Shamu. They only had 2 shows that day and we weren't going to stay for the 5:45pm show...dum, de dum dum DUUUUMMM!
Well, DD is tall enough to ride Shamu's Express (child's roller coaster) so I go on with DD and DH sits in front. Now when we went on a child's roller coaster in July/August at Ocean City, New Jersey, she loved it and went on two different ones 3 times. So I just assumed she would like this one.
After riding, we decide to switch so DH can go and I'll take pics...well, we'll let you decide what happened the 2nd time around ... just look at that face.
Well, it's getting really hot out now, it's over 30 minutes before the Believe show starts and we look at the stadium and it is practically empty. There are about 8 sections and 6 are empty. Cool -- we can do some more rides.
However, right about now, DH and I start making snide comments to each other -- I can't believe DD wouldn't go on the roller coaster, she wants to go on another ride but she is definitely too young for it...we try to go on another one and it says 42" tall ...so we decide to go on the carousel. This was really cool and made to look like you were under the sea.
After the ride, when DH bends down to pick DD up, he knocks DD on the head with the camera around his neck (this is NOT the first time it's happened). I say something. DH says something. I say something else. DH says, fine, I'm not taking my camera anymore for the rest of the trip (which totally p*** me off). I walk away with DD. More snide comments, I get in line with DD and ask DH if he wants to ride with us -- he says, I want to ride with DD, not you. I tell him to cool off or go home. He says he's leaving...most of this conversation is while I'm in line and he is outside the line...
Yep, not a moment either of us are proud of...but I figure I won't sugar-coat this TR - you get the facts!
Anyway, DD liked the ride
It's still 25 minutes before show time, there are still 4 sections of bleachers empty and about 1/2 the other bleachers open. So let DD play around in the water fountains. DH decided not to leave, although we still aren't talking to each other.
Time to go to Believe show -- and we get there and the SW cast member says they are closed -- no more seating! We, and others, look up and see LOTS of seats -- 4 bleachers completely empty yet!!
Oh, yeah, SW neglected to tell everyone that they closed down half the stadium for repair work -- so even though it looked like there was tons of room, there wasn't.
Let me just say that a few choice words were ringing in my ears then.
So we go kill some time at the Penguins -- DD loved, this and we spent about 20 minutes there. Then we go over to the Blue Horizons show and get there 20 minutes early -- we are NOT missing another show. However, part way through there is lightening in the area and the show closes down. The Clyde and Seamore show is closed all week and so is the Fusion show.
At this point, it's nearly 3pm, (DD usually naps at 2pm), we are tired, hot, cranky and barely speaking to each other. DH tentatively suggest we just call it a day. I grudgingly agree.
So we never saw
THE reason to go to Sea World -- SHAMU! We only saw part of the whale and dolphin show, we never got to the sharks or the polar bears.
We leave the park, DD falls asleep on the way back 'home' but as soon as DH puts her down on the sofa bed to finish her nap -- she's awake...Remember, at this point what we ALL need is sleep, air conditioning and a hug...
So we go over to the DVC Models around 5pm at Saratoga Springs to check out the other models, have dinner at the Artist Palette and go back to SAB to swim.
I inquire at the front desk where Fauna Focker is (a stuffed crocodile that people on the DIS share and take to the parks), but no packages for me. I'll continue to ask about Fauna for the rest of the trip but sadly, we never get her...someone took her home with them instead of dropping her off, which messed it up for everyone else...
Finally, DH and I get a chance to talk and apologize for each being jerks.
After this, we are in bed by about 10pm.
So what does tomorrow bring?
Do we have the Potential Tropical Storm?
Who is my 2nd DIS meet (1st in WDW)?
How does DD do with First Haircut?
Cinderella Castle Dream!!! -- for me???
What is the best restaurant at EPCOT?
