I thought about that too; mail them to us ahead of time; one lanyard in each of our suitcases versus bunches in Erik's would help his luggage allowance. It definitely is easier when you can ship something down to Orlando (for us USA- based people). And he could just send us the name tags without having to insert them into the plastic holder to save him time. Maybe we can make his life a little easier. He knows he can ask when he :surfweb: this.

Okay, what is "SNP" in your country of bagpipes and whiskey (under your avatar)?

Scottish Nationallist Party isn't it?

Just to say as I've offered before I am happy for some to be posted to me to and Ill bring someone over as we're closer to Barcelona and are likely to have a better baggage allowance but I think nearer the time the team will work out logistics and which is easier.

scottish national party
political party in charge of scotland,

I was wondering about a book swap halfway through the cruise? :confused3 did you guys do that on your last cruise, maybe not even a swap I always just bin the book as they are extra wt to take home after I read them? maybe this is just me though, If others would read them that would be cool, lynne

I made luggage tags last cruise with our logo and posted them to folks, I know how much work that was:scared1: , so can only imagine the effort that goes into lanyards, updating websites and other stuff you guys do.
Thanks again

On the WB cruise that was what we did. We put a book bag outside our room and people could just donate books and come and get new ones. It worked really well and we had a good range of books. At the end of the cruise they were donated to the library onboard. It meant people could come and get new books at any time of the day. I think my sister took around 3 books with her for it and within around a day we had 10 books. It stayed well stocked but turned over quickly. My sister loves reading and managed to change her book almost every day without ever running out.

Stephanie I'm sure I speak for everyone in saying that we really appreciate the website and everything you've done. I love both tags so it doesn't bother me. I understand what you mean about the POC theme as I guess the Panama cruises were more caribbean orientated and this is more Europe orientated. I love the fact that yours has the flags on though see nothing wrong with the other one either so don't have any real arguement for either but I just wanted to let you know that you are doing a fantastic job and it is appreciated from this side of the pond!

I totally agree with this. You are doing a fantastic job and I appreciate it.

The VAT is out of control! I was glad to get back 200 us after my trip to Paris last spring. Isn't it like 17%?!? What did it get cut to?

It was 17.5% but has dropped to 15% so you save a small amount on some things but its been up on Alcohol, tobacco and petrol (or will be over the next few years for petrol).

I would love to do a book swap! That is a great idea.

As far as lanyards go, I won't remember to wear it, so count me out. But I love the idea of it.

I really appreciate everything that all of you have done for this trip and it's still almost 2 years away.

I have a lot of catching up to do. This thread moves really fast! :)

It appears that everyone loves the Lanyard idea, but the big arguement seems to be the design for this little bobble.... The one design that has been floated out there seems to be to somes liking but not to others. SOooooo why can't both designs be on the lanyard so everyone feels like part of the group. If we can put Brooklyn's Design on 1 side why not Disney Vegas1's Design on the other of the name tag. Then it would be personal choice what side you want to put your name on as to your likeing. The Lanyard itself you can keep the thread name with no pictures except for maybe the DCL emblem.

On a thread such as this, everyone's thoughts are gonna have to be taken in to account or else there are gonna be fractures that have occurred in other threads of this size.

That is a great idea!

On the WBPC, we did the same, but donated the books to the crew (as they are not allowed to take books from the library). :thumbsup2

The colored cording is what always catches my eyes for spotting fellow DISers. I figure if I am so picky about the name tag part, I can make and bring my own with my design. Anyone else who has a preference can do the same and save Erik the time and effort, also. But I want that colored cord to still be a part of the group.

Just like a pirate, I play outside the rules of society.

That sounds good too because I feel that to different logos on 2 different sides is a little too much to ask of Erik. That is a lot of printer ink too. If people want to make their own and bring it - by all means go ahead - that would save Erik a lot of time and don't know if he likes the idea, but it will work. I am really just looking forward to making new friendships and rekindling old - especially Auntlynne who seems to be able to talk like me!! I like that!!!

Thank you to everyone has offered up ideas on how to alleviate some of the "burden" of the lanyards project.

I should have been more clear that the lanyards are a "labor of love"....they are a lot of work, yes....but they are a pleasure to do. I enjoy having the opportunity to feel involved and connected with the group, to do something nice for my fellow Disney/DCL enthusiasts...and the actual distribution of the lanyards at the port and/or onboard during a DIS meet in the afternoon of embarkation give me a great opportunity to meet my fellow cruisers.

I have been giving some thought to the logistics of getting the lanyards and supplies to the ship....and as the reality of the trip gets closer I will absolutely think about what the best way is...and may reach out for help. We'll see.

(Of course.....in order for it to be an issue at all folks need to actually RSVP for their lanyards.....only 7 people have sent in their email so far....so get on it, people!!! :lmao: :lmao: If you are interested in lanyards for yourself and your family or traveling party....check out Post #1 for instructions on how to RSVP by email and get them!!)

Actually...I am not opposed, now that I understand that we have two distinct and popular images to choose from, to finding a way to combine them or use them both (like the suggestion of using one on one side and one on the other). I will over the next year or so tinker with it and hopefully come up with something that everyone can appreciate.

That said....I do want to say in response to the original suggestion of a 2-sided name badge....that because we pre-print the name and DIS name on the lanyards on the "main" side....I don't think it's possible for me to make lanyards where people can choose which logo preference is visible on the side with their name----that would involve collecting that information and then keeping it organized and further individualizing/personalizing each nametag....and as we approach (hopefully) 200....300...or more DIS friends with lanyards....that could potentially be a huge undertaking.....which I can assure you that is the kind of thing that would cause my husband to come home and find me curled up in the fetal position in the corner in our basement rocking back and forth with wide eyes repeating over and over "no more lanyards...no more lanyards" :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I like that idea and I definitely don't want Jason to find you like that. Although I am sure it would make a great story!:lmao:

I didnt know there was a library!!!!:confused3

My last cruise i lost my book after reading threequarters of it. I went to guest services and asked if they had it, they had hundreds of books(not mine;) ) obviously, the nice man, said that when people finish them they leave them around the place but they cant throw them out, he said did I want one? hee hee, I said thanks but better not! then I thought what a waste!

Erik - as stated previously - I trust your "design" ability completely (I've seen the ties!!!!). I believe Amy responded for me on the lanyards and I've already notified Hadley to include me on the team.

Brooklyn - Thank you so much for all the time you've put into the website. It's awesome! Also, I have included both logos in my signature (don't want to be walking the plank now!!!) but I will admit that I really love your logo since it includes all of the flags. It's such a nice reminder of the trip!

To all - many people have put in countless hours already including leading this discussion. I truly appreciate everyone's efforts and look forward to meeting all of you (and getting reacquainted with my DD dis'ers) in 2010!!!

Is it just me or dont you think it is a but cheekythey are not just reducing our cruise price????

I am just going to cancel and rebook:confused3

When Len telephoned and said he wanted to rebook and cancel, they said that we MIGHT get an onboard credit, len said just cancel and rebook, she went away, then said they would just adjust the balance due and credit the fuel supplent.

Thankyou for posting this info

On the PC Repo WB, there is guest library up in Cove Cafe and was all new books in hardcover that you signed out with a CM during set hours.

If you want to leave books for CM, make sure you leave a note that directs your Stewart to take the books. Without a direct note they can't keep them.
