Its a great feeling tossing your passport into your bag knowing your going to use it!
We are leaving tomorrow headed to Prague before we meet up with everyone in Barcelona.
Safe travel to everyone, see you soon!
Cynthia

First, you might want to PM John Halkias as he travels with a CPAP all the time and see how he deals with traveling with the device.

When I went to the Swiss Air site it just said you had to do the following:
SWISS AIR MEDICAL CERTIFICATES
ON THE SAFE SIDE
In the following cases, SWISS recommends that travellers take along and present a medical certificate for their own safety or due to valid security regulations
Cardiac pacemakers or implanted metal parts (artificial joints, metal fixtures for fractures) - before passing the security check.
Diabetics and persons with chronic diseases requiring medication (certificate stating the diagnosis and required medication).
Destination countries requiring certain vaccinations (inoculation and vaccination record).
Syringes carried for medical reasons.

I can't imagine the CPAP qualifies for a Incad which is for someone who has a severe problem. If I remember correctly which says as follows:

Depending on the degree of impairment, SWISS may require an INCAD form. This form, issued by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), contains the data necessary for the organisation of the journey and information from the treating physician that may be relevant for SWISS.

If they are demanding an INCAD, couldn't you get your provider to fax the form to Swiss air directly?

We travel with the CPAP all the time also, but have not flown overnight. 8 hour day flight to the east coast has been all.

I was on the website, guided by the person on the phone with me. She put me on hold several times and confirmed with a supervisor that she was giving me correct information. AND I had to give her the model number and the voltage (even though he will not be allowed to use it????) and then she noted on his reservation that he would have the device with him and it will not count as his one carryon. She also said we have to fill out the other form which is about oxygen...which he does not need. :confused3 As for his provider faxing this to a foreign country....he gets care thru the VA, not a user friendly orgainization. I know because I spent many years as a patient advocate working for the VA. They have 30 days to fill out forms, it's in the regulations, and even if the provider is willing to go above and beyond you have to get the form past the release of info clerks. :sad2: I should have checked on this a month ago. My bad.

Very strange rule from Swiss Air. If it was a safety issue then nobody would be allowed to use one, doctor's letter or not, and if not then they are just being proper jobsworths!! Hey, I could use some stronger words here.:sad2: Poor Dennis. I presume he will be 'sleeping' more or less upright so perhaps he will 'sleep' easier without the CPAP rather than lying down?

We will be sitting upright, but he still stops breathing when he sleeps sitting up.

I too, am going without my CPAP :scared1:for the overnight flight to Barcelona. I feel sorry for those seated near me. I will have a nap on Wednesday even though that isn't good for jet lag :confused3

I think he will not sleep much either and will definately need to nap a little.

When do you fly out? Normally, I don't condone forging a siggie but... Going even just one night without CPAP----->decreased oxygen, fatigue, high blood pressure, etc....Going one night without CPAP on an airline with decreased air pressure----->I wouldn't want to risk it.

:idea:Oh, I LIKE you!! I might try this. Dennis is such a rule follower though. It is a dangerous situation. I also would have him just put it on to sleep if there is anyplace to plug it in and see if the crew asks him to remove it.....but again, he is a rule follower.:sad2: I try to make him a bad boy, but

I'm pretty sure that all flu vaccinations are the product of guesstimates, anyway. They give you what they think will be going around later in the year; they don't know for sure. So I'm just going to enjoy myself, take smart precautions, and go w/the flow.

We will bring VitD and zinc with us and keep up our doses of that.

We are taking our CPAPs as well. To bad we were not on the same flight. We could have a snoring section.:rotfl2:

We are bringing airborne.

I wonder if they are just a bit confused as oxygen does have very specific rules to follow. When do you fly out? Could you bring his CPAP machine to an urgent care or one of the nurse clinics and have them fill out the form for you? Does he get all his care from the VA? I know some vets split their care between VA and regular doc and the regular doc might be able to get things done a little more quickly.
It really is a shame how difficult the VA system can be. I really feel sorry for those who have no other options and on top of it have psychological issues to deal with which makes it even harder for them to try to maneuver around the VA medical system. Our vets deserve better.

How do you do this? DMIL always makes us call her whenever we fly anywhere, but I'm not calling her at 8:55 AM when we land in Barcelona. Maybe if she is awake at 2:55 AM she can see that we have safely landed.

Also, I lost track of the site that lets you follow the progress of the ship. I wanted to send that to the family worrier, also.

This is the site I used. I'm sure that you can put in other airport codes and track the flights from that airport. I clicked on her flight, and a few pages later there was a "Track This Plane in Real Time" option and when I clicked that it opened up Google Maps and showed the plane in real time. It's cool!

http://www.flightstats.com/go/Airport/airportDetails.do?airportCode=YYZ

I changed the airport code in the link provided to LHR (Healthrow) instead of YYZ (Toronto) and was able to track it backwards, too (arrivals instead of departures). I think you can use it to track flights to/from any airport in the world. Very impressive site with up-to-date data. Wow!

Well, she's getting better today! YEAH! She slept great last night. Although, I didn't sleep as well. Since DH was gone I had her sleep in my bed so that I could listen to her breathe. I kept waking up to check on her and then of course have little feet in my back. DH is landing now. So, we are on the mend!! DS has no signs of getting this. It will truly be a miracle if he doesn't get this since they play (or fight) nonstop together in the house the last few days.

I decided not to send her to preschool next week. Since we start waking up an hour early each morning beginning tomorrow and I don't want her to catch anything else.

Thanks again for all your prayers and pixie dust!! Sure can't wait to meet everyone! I begin packing this weekend. We'll see how it goes!!

Nope we do not arrive until Sat. You could also call our room 6000 so hubby can go to yours. Kind of like to have the shirt on before we go and not have to put in on over top. :):thumbsup2 If not that is ok too

I will give you a call once on board.

:rolleyes1 Best book yourselves another holiday I think Sue! :thumbsup2 (and get someone to organise it) :worship:
:littleangel:

I think that is the secret!!

......How much sun tan lotion does everyone plan to take? :rolleyes1
:littleangel:

2 aresole cans - and I hope to get more in either Barcelona or Gibraltar. I hope to avoid the $$$ that DCL will charge...

\:lmao: Clearly I'm in need of and transitioning to that vacation mode because I read "organizing" and "mini bar" and thought "Hey! We have a mini-bar (alcohol) swap going on? :thumbsup2

Indeed you DO need a pampering day!

I didn't even sign up for too many things, but found I only have 2 days that (currently) nothing is scheduled! I still have more things to sign up for once I get on board, too.

I would be all in for a minibar swap - as long as we don't need a spot to have it!

I am doing mani, pedi and wax on Wednesday, and then on the 19th I have a massage booked. That and all the DOD's should take care of it!

Agreed - I still want a galley tour and we are working on a bridge tour as well. And there is Ducky Williams sessions and classes... The list goes on and on...

Just one bottle which we will buy in Barcelona .... pity as I have loads of the stuff here already, but can't take up any weight.

I am really hoping that Morrisons will have it!!

Thanks again for sorting this all out. Can you let me know for sure if the Beer and Mojito Tastings will be swapped. I have a jewellery workshop on September 19th from 3 to 4PM and apart from me, Joanne and Noel are also affected by this clash. If this goes ahead then I need to try to find another slot for the workshop.

Swaping of dates between Beer and Mojito are confirmed! Still waiting on swap of one martini with mixology. Should have tomorrow. Sorry that this is now a conflict for the class!!

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Sue, I was looking at my schedule too! My goodness! I don't think I'm going to purchase the length of trip rainforest room pass! I can't beleive how overscheduled I am! But I think I am in for the trip of a lifetime. I couldn't be happier. And I thank you from the bottom of my heart. :thanks:

I want to experience the rainforest room and we had talked about a length of trip pass, but I don't think that I will have the time!!

You are most welcome! You can thanks me in person with a hug in oh, say 9 days!!! WOHOOOOOOO!!!!!

Mum went to England on Monday and in her emails she said she's still having heart failure every time there is a sudden loud noise. Its going to take a while for us all to get over this. I know all schools in the region are going to be doing counselling for the children when schools start back on Monday.

Paula - I am so glad that you will still be traveling with us! Hope that Marians nerves hold our another week!

PLEASE - if you are not intereseted in one of the tastings that you are booked for, EMAIL me ASAP at (sue.kraft@gmail.com) so I don't turn in your cabin number tomorrow at 11 eastern (Florida) time. After then, you will need to sell the tickets on your own as these are private tastings.

Great news!!! Glead your family is sleeping!! (even if little feet were firmly planted on your back...)

ok, making progredd on the to do list for the cruise... Not so sure about hte house cleaning. Wish that I could claim an earthquake but without all the drama and destruction!

I did manage to get our survival kits for the drive home on the 2nd ordered from Shirley at Perfect Gift. She is a gem!! I also printed every doc I could find and have them in seperate envelopes.

I got 12 pounds of dry macaroni cooked for mac and cheese for our fund raiser, and managed to bake 60 brownies... Was aiming for 75, but since the kids were salivating over stuff I ws taking to the office I decided to bake cookies for my kids instead of another double batch of brownies. Hope that 15 brownies doesn't make us miss our goal!!

I have just one issue now - I printed up a TON of magnets and now I can't find them... Guess what I will be doing tomorrow after work? yep, tearing up the house trying to find them all!!

Nighty night all!!

Thank you!!

We fly on Monday from Spokane to Ft. Lauderdale and then Wed to Barcelona.
He has not seen a private provider, although we have insurance that he could use. We REALLY like is PCP at the VA, it is just the system is so cumbersome. He did use our private ins and medicare to get his eye surgery because the VA said it would be a forever wait to get them done. I have to smile because many of my veterans I worked with as an advocate thought DamnVA was one word. :-)

Looking at the seatguru site though, it seems he won't be able to use it in economy without a battery, which VA did not include although they said they would. So, I guess we will just have to use the breath right strips for a little help and I will have to try to keep an eye on him as well. We are going to be a tired grandma and grandpa, BUT WE ARE GOING ON A 14 DAY DISNEY CRUISE!!!!!! :dance3::yay:

Angie--It is kind of complicated, but try looking at this website: CPAP Travel

That is a helpful site. We have never had a problem with TSA and have flown with it in carryon many times. They do want us to take it out of the bag for screening and they wand it for explosives each time. We have no problem with them doing that.

I AM PACKED!!!!! I cannot believe it! I was so excited. Abby and I had a great time this afternoon.

Noel, hope I didn't make the scrapbook exchange seem more complicated without reading everyone's post. I apologize. Some times I give the "gift" to the host or hostess to place on the bed too. Just another thought.

We are going to be soooo busy - and this isn't even stuff DCL has planned for us. I plan on relaxing quite a bit too - at least I hope so!!

I have some poundage to spare with my bag so I MIGHT by myself something - who knows. I did get the hair done today and the wax of the brows so that is off the list.

Safe travels for everyone leaving tomorrow!

I think I am just over thinking things today. I was just confused by Andrea's post. Too many things on the plate today with last minute check lists and having to keep weighing bags make me stressed out. Lucky you that you have extra baggage weight!!

I had a thought. Wasn't there a physician who was on the WBPC cruise? Maybe she would be able to help you with the physician form. I think her name was Kaylee.

Yes, Kaylee is a naturopath. However, we are in economy and there is no power per seatguru, so without that battery pac it is a mute point. :sad2: We did not know there was no battery pac until it was delivered this morning. The local company that provides them for the VA showed Dennis the order he got and it did not include a battery. :upsidedow

I can just see it now a small group of shifty Disers attempting to scalp tickets outside of guest services, lol

Oh well...enough of the grumbling. We are going on a great trip in just 4 days!!! :woohoo::dance3::yay:

I just flew this last weekend and there were no problems at any of the airports. It has become so common place with the cpap. All they want is to have you remove it (normal) and they notify you that they are doing an additional screening.

Not sure if you had the form signed for DCL. It should suffice. If you need assistance with the form pm me.
