Yes, skype is blocked using the internet on the ship----it's DCL's way of making sure you can't make cheap/free phone calls back to people on land...you have to use their super expensive onboard cell service (Verizon wanted to charge me around $2/minute for calls and 50 cents per text with DCL's onboard cell phone package!!!) or their even more expensive ship to shore phone service. So we've already told everyone we know they won't be hearing from us by phone...that's why we have a blog...and maybe email:lmao::lmao:

I wonder if you could use Google Voice instead of skype to make calls? Or is that blocked as well?

Speaking of House Party leftovers, I have some recipie cards left if anyone needs to know how to make a Konk Kooler, Palo Souffle (and white sauce) or some appetizer dish. I don't have very many left, but probably have 4-5 or so of each one. Post here (since my PM box is full) if you want me to try to bring one.

Speaking of recipes, in case you haven't seen it, here's a cool site with LOTS of recipes from the WDW restaurants.

I think I will miss my TV even tho the internet will be right up there.

I think your list looks like mine, I just took out the ones I don't watch. But I will add Army Wives, Survivor, Amazing Race, Cake Boss, Ace of Cakes, Iron Chef, others I cannot think of. I am not sure if I will watch Dancing With The Stars or not this season, not liking any of the stars.

Don't watch too much TV, but love Project Runway, Lie to Me and Pawn Stars (most watched show on the History Channel--sort of like Antiques Roadshow but wackier). Greg and I were in Las Vegas in April and went to the Pawn Shop used in the show--what a hoot!

Trying to keep up:

WELCOME to all newcomers!

:grouphug: to those who have lost a loved one. I know how deep that pain is; I have experienced several losses in the past few years.

For Pirate Night pirate: , my husband (Greg) will wear his pirate shirt from the Tortola Pussers with his Goofy pirate bandana/ears. I'm going to wear my "Pirate Chef" shirt--this summer, my son interned with a young DC-based designer (also has a shop in the Limelight in NYC) and it's one of his signature t-shirts; also, check out his amazing graphic belts:

http://store.jonwye.com/Women_s_Pirate_Chefs_T_shirt_p/ts-womens-pirate-chef.htm

Thanks to my super-duper Master List, the packing for my son's return to college in Massachusetts :sad1: on Saturday is going well. I hate the 8 hour drive each way, but we usually make a quick stop to see Greg's sister in NJ on the way up and a friend in CT on the way back.

Still have lots to do for the cruise! Almost done with my scrapbook exchange stuff--I'm a simple scrapbooker, but I hope the dozen experts on the exchange list will enjoy my humble efforts.

Two weeks from now--ON THE FLIGHT TO BARCELONA!!!

Andrea

Andrea - whatever you scrapbook, we will love it!!! Also, thanks for the link! I loved the pirate shirt. The mention of The Limelight brought back memories of the late 80's in NYC when we used to go there - when I was 19 - ummm 21! Yes, 21!! What a great little shop - looked at everything - thanks for sharing!

Anyone here know anything about Pine Bark Extract, and does anyone have any recommendations for or against it? I was reading an article recently that said it was effective for combating jetlag because it has antiinflammatory properties that keeps you from swelling, which cuts back on the *brain fog* you get while travelling. I was wondering if it was worthwhile trying or not.

Okay, speaking of shows, I watch Discovery Health and they had a show on there about a person that took a health food supplement/vitamin and got so sick she was in a coma for 3 months! After that, I am staying away from stuff I don't know. But that is me, overly paranoid!! I don't need to get sick with something they don't know about on the ship! Make sure you check with your doctor.

Andrea - I love Bait Car too on Tuesday nights. What a dumb show, but I am so hooked. I enjoy the LA one more than the New Orleans or Vegas, but they are all good.

Hi Everybody......I've been away from the boards for a couple of weeks, and I have missed keeping up with everyone here. For anyone that may have pm'd me and didn't receive any answers, that's why you didn't hear back from me. Packing up our daughters for college and the 9-10 hr drive, many drs. appts, shopping, etc.

I look forward to the final days of planning on the boards with you all, and meeting on the cruise.

Lynne

Does anybody have the answer to this question? Abby is trying to post tonight, she has a user name and password, but it says it is not activated. Is that because she started this before she turned "13" and what should she do to become activated? Okay, thanks for your help!

Who was it that recently had the toenail procedure?? DS has an ingrown toenail that is inflamed. He was going to try to play through the pain and deal with it after football season. But it has become unbearable now. His pediatrician is trying to get him in to a podiatrist to have the nail removed right before we leave. That way DS would only miss the games that he was already going to miss due to the travel.

I'm wondering what to expect in terms of pain and recovery. DS is concerned about all the walking in ports. And, most importantly, whether or not he can go in the swimming pool. LOL.
I work as an medical assistant in podiatry for 20 years. Have it done. If it is currently infected soak in luke warm water and 2 teaspoons of epsom salt. If you put to much in it will burn. If its not to infected they will do the permanment procedure with the chemical Feebs was talking about if not they will removed the infected nail and he will get alot of relief. He will need to wear a sandal for a while becuase the shoe rubbing on the toe from to much walking is painful. pm me if you want me to bring a gel toe guard for him so shoes are more comfortable. The main thing that will bother him is the salt water It will BURN like crazy. Use a waterproof banaid for whenever he goes in the water. We suggest not going in any lakes or rivers until it is healed.

yes, we've done the v, we've done the soaking in hot water, we've done the gentle separating of the skin, I think that's what has got him through all summer, but now he's just in a lot of constant pain
i would not suggest cutting a v in your nail it will cause it to grow up in the middle allowing fungus to get under it.

DD had her toe done a couple of years ago, they didn`t remove the whole nail but a side section of it and they they painted something on it to prevent that part growing back.
She says it wasn`t too sore later (and she`s a terrible patient) as the pain before was bad. Her toe was in a real manky state!
We do this at least 3 times a day.

I can't believe it was that simple. Had the 'discussion' with the school today and I am still in shock. I walked in and asked who I needed to speak to about getting independent study for my son. I was directed to the attendance office where I was asked if he was gone already or was this a future trip. I gave her our departure date and she just shrugged and said to have him come talk to her next week. She'll give him a form to fill out, she'll pass it around to his teachers, and then he turns in his work when he gets back. No questions about where we were going, why I was taking him out of school, how long it would be, nothing! His coaches gave us more grief than the attendance office did.

Thanks for all the comments on the toe. We will go through with the procedure, we're just hoping that they can get us in before the trip. DS is already missing 3 games due to the trip and I'd hate for him to have to miss any more once we get back.
If he cant get into one before the cruise check with your local urgent care ask them if they take care of sports injuries to toes. Even the trainer from his high school should be able to give him a referral to someone who does it.

Amanda

This hurricane is already getting in the way of my weekend plans to NY. Air Tran sent me a notice that my flight may be cancelled and I can go stand-by if that happens.

Seriously folks, the hurricane has not even arrived let alone us knowing the exact path. :confused3

We are ready. Dh and DBil have taken all the deck furniture in, the canopies are down from the gazebos and everything is secured. This way it is done for the fall so when we get back from the cruise it will be one less thing to take care of.

So for all those who may be affected by this hurricane, my thoughts are with you. All those who are traveling, be safe and have a wonderful cruise.

OK, I officially sick. Got meds today, just took my cocktail (shot of tequila, benadryl and chase it all with some Nyquil) and going to bed (sure this is not good for me but usually feel good the next day).

this is awful...but TV. (I won't miss internet because I always buckle down and just buy the internet package so I can stay connected :lmao:)....but TV I will miss....we watch a lot of TV...or, I should say, we DVR a LOT of TV. It's awful to confess this since watching too much TV is so demonized in our culture but I am a total TV junkie. Here is just an assortment of the shows that we DVR on a weekly basis throughout the year:

Project Runway
Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List
Top Chef
Top Design
Shear Genius
Eureka
Merlin
Smallville
Desperate Housewives
Brothers & Sisters
The Gates
Make it or Break it
American Idol
So You Think You Can Dance
America's Next Top Model
Design Star
Next Food Network Star
True Blood
The Vampire Diaries
Food Channel Challenge (where they compete making cakes...LOVE THAT)
Drop Dead Diva

And probably about half the shows we watch regularly....the ones I can think of right now....we used to be obsessed with a bunch of shows that are off the air now, too like: Pushing Daisies, Heroes, Lost, Dirty Sexy Money, Ugly Betty, Kyle XY, all the Sci-Fi network shows like the Stargate Series of shows, Battlestar Galactica, Sanctuary, etc.

So being on the ship there's always a ton of TV we miss....and I"m sure our poor DVR won't be able to hold everything for such a long trip! LOL

OMG we are going to get along great! Granted I don't have a DVR so rarely see shows, but like most of these listed above.

I had my checkup last week. DH is having his on Thursday. From my doctor, I got a prescription for Ambien for when I can not sleep
Have you taken Ambien before? My doctor had me on it until I asked her to change to to anything else....It turns out I was doing things in the middle of the night without knowing it. Like calling my best friends at 2 and 3 in the morning, eating a bag of what ever was in the pantry and the last straw was the morning I woke up to find a bottle of soda in the fridge. It wasnt their when I went to bed. :scared1:
Last night I posted a new blog on our blog that has a picture of our main door magnet. I'm pretty proud of it. It's designed to go AROUND the circular stateroom number that is on your door and turn it into a "hidden mickey" and then it extends below and has a space/frame that is about 5" square. We've created 24 separate smaller magnets and every day the new "magnet of the day" will be going in that space so that magnet changes on a daily basis to reflect where we are or what we're doing that day! And then when the day is over, we'll move the old magnet to the bottom of the door and replace it with the next magnet----so by the end of the cruise we should have a magnet for all 24 days of our cruise (except disembarkation day) on our door! Since we're so close to the laundry you'll all have to check it out while you're waiting for your mentionables, unmentionables and spanx to dry! :rotfl:
:worship::worship::worship: Looks GREAT!

The last six days have been a whirlwind and haze.
:grouphug:
I am so sorry for your loss.

Hello. We are the only Spanish family of the trip. Our knowledge of the English language is very limited, but if you need some information of Barcelona I will be charmed with of providing it. Do anyone of yours speak spanish?
I speak a little but my friends Karen and Alex (CruzdirectorKaren) speak spanish. We will look for you and your family on the ship!:flower3:

Do they still give out the pirate bandana on Pirate night?
When we sailed last November they had them for sale but did not give them away. I hope this has changed...

I have packed and repacked 5 times, and now think I am done! I can spend the next week cleaning and organizing the house. I love to come home to a clean house after a long trip.

Hope everyone has a good Labor Day weekend!
Cynthia

We are Barry and Teresa from Alabama, traveling with DS Andrew (23) and with all of you. Sorry we are too late to join in most of your activities, but we hope to meet many of you on the cruise. We are in room 8042 and on second dining. Have decided to forgo formal nights this trip as it is too much to carry the extra clothing (we have to bring the pirate stuff of course). We are on the flight leaving Atlanta on the 17th arriving on the 18th in Barcelona. Hope to get a quick tour of the city before the cruise. This is my 7th Disney cruise and 7 days never seemed like enough. Will be interesting to see how 14 days will be. I hope everyone has a safe and uneventful trip to Barcelona. See you on the cruise. :mickeyjum

Welcome!!!!!!! :)

I don't know how I would cope doing my own injections. I know you have to so obviously would, but that first time would probably take me forever to stick that needle in!!!!

It's funny - I thought I was going to be the exact same way last week when I first injected myself, but I was actually OK. I thought I would be way more freaked out. It's not as bad doing it as my mind thought it would be. :)

Tom, if it is any help, I have medication just like yours. I do not refrigerate it on the plane. When you receive it, you should get a travel case with a ice pack. I just keep it in my carry on. I have traveled international with it before and have NEVER been questioned by any airline. I did send DCL a fax asking them for a container in my cabin to put the syringes in. It really helps! It is always on your mind, but not as difficult to travel as you think. I hope that helps! Sending a

So you don't need a note from your doctor because it's liquid and needles to bring it aboard the plane? I'd prefer to keep it with me because it's not supposed to be stored in any conditions less than 59 degrees. I'm a little worried about that.

Who was it that recently had the toenail procedure?? DS has an ingrown toenail that is inflamed. He was going to try to play through the pain and deal with it after football season. But it has become unbearable now. His pediatrician is trying to get him in to a podiatrist to have the nail removed right before we leave. I was the person with the ingrown toenail problem! Amanda gave you wonderful advice in a previous post.

I would call a podiatrist tomorrow to see if you can get him in and if not, like Amanda said, take him to an urgent care place. Depending on how badly it is infected, they may need to numb it and I will warn you, that really hurts. As far as the pain after the procedure, it's not too bad. The first night it does hurt and a little the next day but after that the pain pretty much goes away. Actually, he is probably having more pain in it now than what he will have after it is removed. That's how I was this past time.

When I was living in Florida, I went to Celebration Hospital's ER and had mine removed. But I would say get it out before you leave because he will enjoy the trip so much more! :)

So like I did with my wedding favors less than a week before our wedding, I am doing the same thing with my FE gifts! I have 7 down - 7 to go in two weeks...I'm hoping I get them all done. However, I was able to complete and entire one this evening so if I work on them from the time I get up to the time I go to bed, I should be OK! :lmao:

I'm going to get my nails filled tomorrow. I've been counting down to the trip from the numbers of fills I have left before we leave! Right now it is 2 - tomorrow it will be only 1! I'm planning on getting my nails done on Wednesday so they will be as nice as possible for when we board the cruise.

I need to go to bed...I have another busy day of FE gift making ahead of me! :)

It wasnt their when I went to bed. :scared1:

My doctor told me about those side affects. My middle DD has taken it before without those side affects and DH is alerted to watch me on the cruise!! I only have it in case that I can not sleep.

Eye surgery went very well - as we knew it would!! Dennis was released an hour after surgery and we stopped by friends' house for coffee for an hour or so. Now we are home and he is napping. Thank you all for the good thoughts and prayers this morning. :grouphug:

glad it went well!

We do not but I carry around a english/spanish dictionary

Gogo Inflight will not work once you leave the continental US. The system works off of ground based towers that are only in the US. This is why most airlines have only installed the system on their domestic fleets. So, if it's there, you'll only be able to use it until you get over the Atlantic.

Alex

Very good to know! I saw it advertised on the USAir flight status page, but didn't read further to see about coverage.
