I see that we now have Tropical Storm Earl......Please send up prayers that NO HURRICANES will be in the Gulf headed for the Mississippi, Louisiana or Alabama coast the few days before I leave on Sept. 16. My DH is a fireman for the City of Biloxi (which was leveled by Hurricane Katrina 5 yrs ago on Aug 29) and they can cancel all vacation time if a Hurricane is headed to our area....They do not care how much the trip cost or how much planning has been put into it!!!

This is my biggest fear. His last day to work before the cruise is Sept. 12. So If he can get away from his station the morning of Sept 13, we will be ok because he will not answer his phone after that.....as far as they know, we will be gone!

This happened as we were leaving for the 5 night cruise in Sept 2008. They called and he made the mistake of answering the phone but quickly said we were already in the airport....just a little white lie! We were not there yet!!

I am praying and crossing everything I can in hopes that no storms develop right before we leave.

fingers crossed that no hurricanes, thats the darn trouble being married to a hero.

Been q tonight, fingers crossed it stays that way, lovely day in scotland today, took the dogs for a 8 mile walk around a lovely loch, loch leven, (where Mary queen of scots was held captive)(sorry tmi:lmao:), hey actually slept all afternoon:cloud9:

I have all the metros, trains, cable cars, etc. planned out but for Saturday. The problem is that we wouldn't get to the ship until mid-afternoon, so I'm thinking of booking a private tour with Barcelona Day Tours. They'll pick us up at our hotel (with our luggage) and drop us at the port afterwards. It's more expensive but it takes a lot of the worry out of it. If we were going on Thursday or Friday, I would defnitely do it by train (but then, I've used the metros and trains in Spain dozens of times). Unfortunately, because of work, we don't arrive until Friday morning.

We are doing a tour organized by 1Disney Queen to go to Montserrat with Pepito tours. Jose will pick us at our hotel with our luggage up and deliver us to the ship about 1PM. The tour is a bit pricey but came highly recommended on the DIS boards.

Prayers and pixiedust: for no new hurricanes!!

Okay, I can't wait. I'm going to start packing today, so unlike me. I usually pack about an hour before I leave for the airport. I need to DO something to get ready. I'll just start a list of clothes I want to take (if I feel I want to wear them between now and the cruise) so I won't forget them. Buying new undies, so I can pack those, too. I bought a first aid kit and some simple meds in case we get sick. I wish I could pack my own sheets. I'll miss them. : (

I have added your thread to the cruise meet list :thumbsup2

Anyone else get a kick out of this happening over 1,000 posts in?:lmao:

Count me in for the Mixology class

You're on the list!

Oh and DCL website is now saying not available so i think we sold out people!

There may be a room... SueL had to cancel - i just heard today. She broke her ankle and it is not healing properly or fast enough.

I've been with dd in Bristol as she's not been too good lately. :sad1:

Her GP has suggested changing meds and recommended she's not well enough to take exams at present and should be allowed to retake her second year at Uni. The Faculty don't meet until end of September, just before term starts ......while we're away of course.....so we won't know til then if they agree. :guilty:

I am totally exhausted wth trying to boost her spirits right now and really need this holiday.....but now of course I shall be worrying too......

Sorry for the offload ........back to normal service....:grouphug:
:littleangel:

 to you both. Hope that Becky is feeling right as rain soon!

What's this about magnets being prohibited? They aren't in the US according to the TSA website:

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#9

YIKES!!! Say it isn't so!!

Paula - I lost the multi quote for your post! So sorry to hear about your purr-baby!

Hope it goes well and you get some answers...

P&PD they figure things out for you.

Thank you for your kind words. My sister and I were at the doctor for almost 2 hours today. After discussing everything with the PA, she went and talked our our regular MD. Together they decided on a couple of things. One of them was to start a daily injection of Victoza to try to help with the weight gain. I'm really hoping it works because I'm tried of trying to lose weight and seeing the scale go up and up. I'm going to take the first inject tomorrow morning, so keep your fingers crossed!

I'll keep my fingers crossed...Biloxi was hit hard enough once, they don't need to get hit again.

Looks like you had a successful shopping day.

I think this has to do more to do with the strength rather than the size

I did dig a little deeper and found this:

I also had a read of the corresponding IATA regulation, but was none the wiser afterwards.

If I get a minute tomorrow, I will ring our Cargo department and see what they have to say about this. I was going to ship them to Barcelona by road anyway as it is cheaper than by airfreight, but I am not quite sure what to do on the return if this turns out to be an issue. As airline staff, I have to be whiter than white when flying, especially if I am traveling on a staff ticket.

Magnets are considered to be a dangerous goods article for shipments outside the Continental United States (International Destinations). For Domestic Destinations, magnets have been deregulated; however, the packaging requirements are mandated and strictly enforced.

International Shipments

Magnets being shipped on an international flight MUST BE DECLARED AS A DANGEROUS GOODS ARTICLE (Dangerous goods declaration form must accompany the package).

Check the regulations to determine if the airport that receives the shipment considers magnets acceptable, as some airports do NOT allow magnets to be shipped in.

The boxes must be checked for total field emission after being packaged. If the field exceeds 0.002 gauss at 7 feet from the package (rotated 360° in both planes), follow packaging instructions 902 in the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulation. If the total field emission exceeds 0.00525 gauss at 15 feet from the package in any plane, the package cannot be accepted for air shipment. If the 0.00525 gauss requirement is met (the magnetic field emission is less than 0.00525 in any plane), you can ship the package by air on an international flight PROVIDED you fill the Dangerous Goods Declaration Form, and label the package appropriately. The package(s) must have the "Handling Label for Class 9 - Magnetized Material" label affixed on them.

Refer to the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations publication (you can get a copy of this from your freight carrier or order this from IATA directly).

Corinna

What does this mean in Air magnet travel for dummies:confused3 what is guass mean?? My head hurts just reading this. Guess it means no magnets for me:confused3

Anyone know if magnets can be bought in Gibraltar?

Lorraine, I was just talking to Giles about Madiera on FB. : )

You and I are just gonna be rolly polly after two weeks on the ship with custard (or creme brulee) and fudge (and/or the chocolate fountain)! I'm still giggling about putting the plate under the fountain! hahaha!

Surgery went well, they are keeping me overnight for observation. Thanks for all the well wishes.

Great news - and glad that you are now at home. :goodvibes I found that my own surroundings were so much more restful than the hospital. :goodvibes

Had a bit of a sad day today, I had to take my elderly cat to the vet as he had gone off his food. He already was on medication for kidney failure and after discussing with the vet, we decided the kindest course of action was to put him to sleep. He was 15 years old and the sweetest boy. We will miss him. :sad1:

So sorry about your loss.
