I have decided most men, given the chance, would be quite happy wearing the same clothes all week!

Bob ceratinly would  He is into his 3rd week in Virginia and only now realising that 2 pairs of trousers was not enough :rolleyes1

Off to Wallmart for him in the morning lol,

Dawn

I searched back through part 8 of this meet thread, and found that 7 people had expressed interest in doing yoga. As i recall, the "hidden deck" at 7 aft is more than big enough for that many, and more, so I think we should try to make this work. Cynthia (elderfam) has volunteered to lead, and I can lead in a pinch (I'd call myself an "experienced beginner"). As well, the professional fitness people on board (as I recall) offer yoga sessions every 2-3 days, although their sessions tend to be short, only about 30 minutes.

Here are the names of the people who have expressed interest in yoga that I could find in the thread:

su_kraft
Custard tart
elderfam + husband
Hoagie pie
tink,too
Futurist

For others who haven't done yoga and are curious, it's a wonderful way to increase your flexibility, strengthen core muscles, and help you stay active and healthy as you age. There's a yogic saying that "You're as young as your spine", and yoga is all about the spine and breathing. I do it once a week as a counterpoint to walking and weight lifting (not at the same time!) the rest of the week, and always feel both relaxed and energized afterwards. Try it, you might like it! As Cynthia has said, we won't be doing super-bendy stuff. And if there's a qualified instructor or an experienced yogi or yogini in our midst - please step forward and help us! It doesn't have to be every day, even just once or twice would be helpful.

Should we ask gismo (Sarah) to add yoga, deck 7 aft ("secret deck") at 7:30 a.m. on sea days to the DIS navigator?

Namaste, and See You Real Soon! :flower3:
Richard

For now anyway , Please include me wife Helen as she does Bikram Yoga 3 times a week here in Vegas and she expressed interest in doing Yoga on the ship ...

Hi Woody ... welcome to the UK. Good to hear you are enjoying London.

Glad you made it to London safe and sound!

Glad to see you made it to London safely. Sounds like you are having a great time! Keep in touch - we want to hear about all the fun activities!!!

Hope you and Mrs. Woody have been having a lovely time!! Great to hear from you!!

Yesterday we went on a daytrip to Canterbury. Had a tasty lunch of pies and pasties. We then went to the Canterbury Cathedral, which is amazing.

Today we went on a daytrip to Cambridge. It's been donkey years since we've been there, and there are so many new shopping centers and stores. The highlight was an outdoor performance of Twelfth Night.

Here is a link to all the menus from the Med cruise we came off of yesterday - just to give an idea of what might be on offer

http://www.flickr.com/photos/40285840@N03/sets/72157624762416612/

THANKS!

On a really early post I had copies of the menus attached from the last TA. The themes mainly relate to food. The Villians night however is a themed night as well so there may be other Villian stuff going on. The others are just menu nights.

Here's the menus

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=28718645&postcount=3004

Farewell to the Caribbean (similar to the Welcome to Caribbean)

Transatlantic Menu

Prince & Princess Menu

There are more if you want them but these were the ones I think that differ from those shown!

Thanks!

I really need to nail down my plans for Gibraltar because it's bugging me that it's not settled yet! I want to go to the Rock without the help of DCL, but I'm not sure how I want to go about doing it. I see so many options, but what I think would be easiest for my back is a "taxi tour". I would love to go up the cable car too, though, to film. See! I'm so undecided!

I fear the taxi tour won't be an option going single. I've read where you can go into town where there's a taxi line. For those of you who have been there before, do you know if they have like mini-vans that will take multiple people up and down the Rock?

For anyone else who's still researching their options for Gibraltar, I did find this informative post on Trip-Advisor that started with a DCL 2010 EBTA cruiser!

John and I are going to do the Skywalk Combo. I am quoting from I think mdwoodman's post.

•Cable Car ticket (options single or return and child or adult)
•Multimedia Tour (hand held guide included in adult ticket only and for use exclusively within the Cable Car Top Station)
•Apes (The apes are wild animals and roam freely throughout the Upper Rock area. However they are usually seen at both the Cable Car Top and Middle Station otherwise known as Apes Den.)
•Nature Reserve entrance ticket - Entrance to: St Michael's Cave, Great Siege Tunnels, City Under Siege Exhibition, Moorish Castle and 100 Ton Gun. (this ticket must be redeemed at the Cable Cart ticket office BEFORE entering any of the sights.) The Nature Reserve ticket must be used on the same day as the Cable Car ticket, see below.)
•FREE Gibraltar Bus Pass (adult or child one day bus pass). This must be collected from the Gibraltarinfo kiosk on the Spanish side of the Gibraltar/Spanish land frontier.

(Note that the Bus Pass isn't really worthwhile, since we won't be going to the land frontier. However, cruise ships normally provide shuttle buses or it's only £1 each for the public bus.)

John and I decided e are going to take a taxi to collect the tickets. You are welcome to take the taxi with us to the border pick up the tour tickets if you are interested. Check it out and let us know.

Noel

If you want to split the taxi let us know as this looks like something we were planning to do. I want to see the monkeys and Bob wants to go through the caves. Val

We simply walk to the coach park (about 1/2 mile) and catch the #4 bus to the cable car station. I think it's 65 cents one way or 90 cents return (Euro cents). I don't plan to take the cable car back down, so I'll be getting the one-way ticket. Here's a Google Earth image:

Gibraltar.jpg

Just starting to try to figure out Gibraltar as well.

Noel - your ticket sound perfect (everything I want to hit plus some) must go check out.

Does anyone know if we get to skip the line at the cable car by prepurchasing (i.e. is there a separate line to purchase tickets and for those who have already purchased)?

Michael I am going to follow you to the bus.

Anyone needing to fly back from Orlando to San Francisco Oct 6-Nov 17, take note:

From the Travelzoo Newsdesk:

SAN FRANCISCO--AUGUST 20, 2010-- This morning, Virgin
America reduced fares on nonstop fall flights to Orlando
from San Francisco to $129 each way. This is an additional
$50 off already-discounted prices on this new route.

Travel Tuesday-Thursday and Saturday from Oct. 6, when
service begins, through Nov. 17. Flights on Fridays and
Sundays are $20 more.

The sale ends at 11:59 p.m. PT Aug. 30.

Oh this is exciting for going forward. Will have to check out. Especially if a direct flight (only other one I have seen in on UA). Too bad I already got my ticket on Delta for my Sunday evening return.

For all of you who are coming to San Francisco on the LA to Vancouver DCL next year, or just coming on your own to visit, we would love to help you plan your visit or perhaps take you on a tour. We don't have a van, just a buick, so can't take more then 2-3 in our car but our bus system takes you almost anywhere you would want to go. I know some people aren't comfortable in a strange city using the bus system but we would be happy to advise or maybe meet you and go with you. We can also send you trip tiks and other info we can pickup from the hotel lobbys here in the city. Although we live in the residential area of the city we are often in the areas where alot of tourists are. Our medical building is in Union Square, on the cable car line, and we shop in the Haight Ashbury area. Basically, our city is only 49 square miles. We often stop and offer help to tourists we see pouring over the maps in tourist books that are often not to scale. Two warnings I give friends coming to the city - 1. bring layered clothes and be prepared for rain like fog in the morning and warm (not hot) sun in the afternoon and then wind and fog in the evening (before the Spanish came, the Indians hunted here but didn't live here - the weather sucked to much). 2. Although we are a small city anticipate climbing hills if you plan to walk around. My in shape friends from the East couldn't believe how many and steep our hills are. I live on a 15% hill and some of the streets around us have stairs for sidewalks because they are so steep. One street we take every day has a city sign "hill" at the top that someone has crossed out and wrote "CLIFF!".
PM me if anyone wants info. Val

I can't wait for the Wonder to dock! I can see the cruise ships from my office. There was a Princess ship in this week. I keep looking and counting down till my vacation. I am sure there will be some people we will know on the LA-Vancouver trip.

I haven't even thought about clothes yet, I haven't even been through my wardrobe to see what still fits, probably not much :rotfl: I have however been sorting much more important things like door magnets :thumbsup2 I might go shopping the week before we go and pick up a few bits and then pack the night before :thumbsup2
I can't believe I haven't checked the thread for about 2 days and already the old one has been closed and your all nearly 30 pages into a new one :worship:

Well we are expert posters now you know!! We know how to fill a thread.:rotfl2:

HI everyone

Well its not so long now 26 days (i leave on the 16th!) so have to be packed soon

I know i would find it useful to have some packing tips

oh yeah still need to buy a suit case i need one for carry on and one for main luggage

I am going for the cruise then going straight to Disney world for 10 days so need alot of clothes

formal and casual so lots of T shirts, swim wear etc

well i can only carry 20 KG as easy jet only allows in hold luggage that amount (virgin is a little over)

well came up with a pretty neat solution

for those in the UK asda are selling those vacumn style space saving clothes bags 2 for £5 but the neat thing is THEY DO NOT NEED a vacum you fill then up seal the one end (they are reusable) then you roll them up and the air is expelled from the bottom .. ITS ACE it really works and its easy :yay: it really drops the space you take with t shirts, jeans and casual trousers or shirt or even swimming shorts not the formal wear though

hay they are also waterproof but they will crease everything

so does any one else have any packing tips ?

jason

I think I am the wrong person to ask for packing tips from, but my husband would just say cut down!!;)

We do have some of those bags, but have used them for things in the loft. I have bought some of those packing cubes this time, so we will see how those work. Not sure they go with my haphazard type of packing, but I will give them a go.

I was at the airport once and this poor lady was trying to redistribute her packing because she was way over the weight limit. The problem was she had used all those space savers and assumed she would be ok because everything fit. She didn't seem to realize getting rid of the air didn't reduce the weight of the clothes. She was in tears and I really felt bad for her. Kinda reminded me of when I got a great deal on books in Hawaii, hardbacks for .25 at a library sale. It wasn't such a great deal when I had to pay the over weight charge at the airport. Oh well, live and learn. Val

Good point about the weight!! Still have to be careful.:lmao:

Bob ceratinly would  He is into his 3rd week in Virginia and only now realising that 2 pairs of trousers was not enough :rolleyes1

Off to Wallmart for him in the morning lol,

Dawn

Well the poor guy didn't know he was going to be there for so long though did he? I dread to think what kind of trousers John would buy if he ad to go buy some.

yes indeed YOU NEED TO WEIGH YOUR SUIT CASE PRIOR TO LEAVING

i filled a huge case once and was really worried i was over the limit only to find it weight 16 it was like what NOOOOO i could have packed more!!! got more gifts etc

So glad you are enjoying good old Blighty. Canterbury Cathedral is indeed beautiful and full of history. Are you here for long?

Time: 1-2 hours. Difficulty: 1. Trailhead: The Moorings.
If you don't stop to look at sailboats or shop, you can easily walk from one end to the other of
Tortola's capital city in less than 30 minutes.
To see Road Town at its liveliest (and even at its peak, that's not saying much), avoid a Sunday visit when all the stores will be locked up tight...unless a cruise ship happens to be in.
1) The Moorings: Located at Wickham's Cay 2, this is where you get nautical. The Moorings is the main charter dock of the British Virgin Islands , the place to arrange day sails/boat rentals.
2) J. R. O'Neal Botanic Gardens: Located on Main St. several blocks inland from the waterfront, the gardens are built on the grounds of the old Government Agricultural Station. Only 4 acres, this often overlooked site is one of the prettiest spots on Tortola.

The botanical display features colorful tropical flowers and herbs, a palm garden, fern house, bamboo and grass exhibits as well as a pond and waterfall. The self-guided walks will take you past a pond and small waterfall, small Fern House, Orchid House and herb and medicinal gardens.

Open weekdays and Saturday during sunlight hours; Sunday, from noon to 5. Donations accepted.
3) Main Street: THE shopping street of tiny Road Town, it is located one block off Waterfront Drive . None of the shops are large or fancy but almost all are interesting. You can buy spices, honey, spiced rums, Cuban cigars, model sailboats and hand-painted fabrics.
4) V.I. Folk Museum: Located on Main Street just north of the post office, the museum is located in a traditional West Indian building. Artifacts on display are from Taino, plantation, and slave eras and pieces from the RMS Rhone. Open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donations accepted
5) Pusser's Company Store and Pub: Located on Waterfront Drive, The Company Store is a nautical version of Banana Republic, with a complete and well-done fashion line. Pusser's Rum not only tastes good, it's a good gift. The pub lunches are superb; try the shepherd's pie. This all may seem pretty touristy, but a lot of locals hang out here.
6) Ferry Dock: For the ferryboats to Virgin Gorda or the U.S Virgin Islands. Located diagonally across from Pusser's. **

Many tours begin opposite the Road Town ferry dock where most visitors pass through immigration and customs and enter the Territory. Sir Olva Georges Plaza functions as the town square and is the site of many cultural events and political gatherings. However, most days the plaza is filled with visitors and locals sitting on the benches or around the central fountain involved in animated conversation. The plaza is surrounded by a few small shops and offices, the central police headquarters and the post office. The latter, once the seat of government, has had numerous transformations over the years and is a good place to begin a walk down Main Street. An interesting juxtaposition of the old and the new, Main Street offers a fascinating look back into history.
As you begin walking east past the Post Office, notice all the small shops selling souvenirs. Many are restored or modified stone buildings from a bygone era. On your left, the Virgin Islands Folk Museum lies just up a flight of stairs. Staffed by volunteers, the museum is open only periodically. When it is, be sure to check out the artefacts and information about the history of the islands dating back to the first Amerindian inhabitants. There are displays from the plantation era as well as items and pieces recovered from shipwrecks, including the RMS Rhone.
Further on, Pusser's Company Store and restaurant has become a Road Town landmark. Across the street, a small wooden building contains a gallery of photographs and paintings. The West-Indian-style structure was once a private dwelling just steps from the shore. You'll notice large posts buried in the ground and bolted to the house at the corners of the building. These were designed to secure the wooden house and prevent it from floating away during periods of high storm tides.
As you stroll through town, don't forget to stop at the shops for a souvenir of your visit. As you round the bend to the left, you'll pass Sunny Caribbee, a wonderful spice emporium offering a wide variety of spices, condiments and island artwork. Next door is the New England Culinary Institute bakery. Operated as a culinary training centre by the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, the student interns create many mouth-watering treats. It's a nice place to stop for a snack and cup of coffee or cool drink.
Continuing on your walk, you'll pass many more gift and specialty shops. Further on, you'll see two old churches that figured prominently in local history: the Methodist Church and St. George's Anglican Church, both prime examples of culturally and historically significant architecture. Nearby, the imposing stone wall of the austere HM Prison looks like a set out of an old western movie. Its most famous occupant was Arthur Hodge, a wealthy plantation owner who was hanged for murdering one of his slaves.
If you continue, you'll pass numerous old wooden buildings built in the characteristic West-Indian architectural styles and painted in bright colours. A few of these are still private residences. When you reach the Sunday Morning Well, take a pause to read the plaque and reflect on the history of the site. It was here that the proclamation was read in 1834 that ended slavery in the BVI. Today it is a gathering place for locals who like to sit in the shade and discuss the day's events.
Further along the road, you'll reach the J.R. O'Neal Botanic Gardens. Maintained by the BVI National Parks Trust, the Gardens are an idyllic retreat from the hustle and bustle of Road Town. Although only a few acres in size, the Gardens exhibit a variety of tropical plants from around the world. There are also examples of very rare plants endemic to the BVI. A profusion of flowers makes this a wonderful backdrop for weddings and other events.
Before departing the Road Town area, be sure to stop at Crafts Alive. This colourful collection of small shops and booths offer authentic local crafts and items of interest, ranging from island T-shirts to pottery, straw hats and crocheted souvenirs.

The Old Government House in Road Town, Tortola, started out as a small fort built by the British in the late 1700s. It was rebuilt as the first Government House in the late 1800s. Its Museum Room displays historic relics, photography of the old days, and mementos.

BUY IT WHEN YOU GET THERE. Sometimes it s cheaper to buy it when you get there than pay the excess baggage charge. Do you need to take a family-sized bottle of shampoo, if you do buy it when you get there.

So I leave in 14 days and 15.5 hours! I am stressed and don't need to be, but that is my OCD acting up. This week started the problem with sleeping. I usually am in bed by 10 pm (11 pm at the latest), well I am pushing 12-1 am these days and waking up before my alarm clock in the morning. Too many things going through my head of what I need to do at home and work. My lists are growing 5x as fast as I am crossing things off. Plus working 10-12 hour days and 1 day on the weekend is not helping for getting things accomplished at home.

As for next trip, nothing in stone yet, but hoping to go to HI to check out the new DVC resort. There is a chance they may send my cousin (works for Disney Weddings) so would meet up with him. I was excited at first about the Alaska cruises, but will wait to hear the reviews as they are not encompassing all the things I would like to do. I think it is Princess that offers the train as well (that to me is more appealing). I would love to check out the Dream, but those are just too short and don't want to really do B2B with the same ports. I am a 7+ (preferably 10+ day cruiser) now. Hoping they will release the 2012 itineraries while we are on board.

I have been thinking about DVC, but not sure. I plan to move to FL in 5 years (calling it my 1st retirement - I will only be 40). I need to be happier, I love SF, but I can't just get away on the weekend to go to WDW (sorry WDW fan more than DL), plus living 3000 miles away from family and friends from school is getting harder as I am getting older and so are they. I moved out here with my boyfriend at the time (thought he was the one - only to find out 10 years later he did not think the same) and my goals in life were a bit messed up, I felt I needed to prove to others that I could make it on my own and be successful. I look back now and don't really keep in touch with any of those people I felt the need to impress back when I left high school and college. So time to make me happy. (Plus still not loving earthquakes - I will take a hurricane any day - they can somewhat predict those.) So the plan is to move, buy a house (would love Celebration, but will probably try to find something near by 2 cousins that live in FL - right behind the MK), get an annual pass and enjoy life. Getting a job without a ridiculous commute will be the challenge.

Ok - need to get a move on crossing more things off my list. I ordered a "Bra Stash" today to carry extra $$ and things. Wow that was one of the hardest things to find (had to order online, people in stores were looking at me like I had 2 heads this week). Wish I knew what happened to the ones my mom had as the 2 versions I found online are not the same as what she use to use and see bulkier. I also picked up Rick Steve's book on Rome last night. Thinking of heading back to Border's today to try to pick something up on Barcelona. Also, plan to get more things up to the loft and start really thinking about outfits and packing. I am taking 2 large suitcases and 1 carryon and a backpack (for 28 days). This way I will have room for souvies, as I could get it all in 1 suitcase if I wanted (did it for the Panama Canal), but ended up needing to borrow a suitcase from my cousin to get back to SF after.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend.

Should I mention I've already put it in there lol! Added it when it was suggested before incase this was later confirmed and I assume this is the confirmation so its all good!

Great!

Could someone provide me a link to the navigator? The one linked on page 1 of this thread doesn't seem to have the yoga. I'm probably looking at the wrong place...

Thanks!

Yesterday we went on a daytrip to Canterbury. Had a tasty lunch of pies and pasties. We then went to the Canterbury Cathedral, which is amazing.
Canterbury Cathedral is lovely - my eldest son had his graduation ceremony there... :goodvibes Glad you're having a good time, Woody!! :thumbsup2

The idea of Becca loosing her tooth while we are cruising reminds me of a story that I read here on the DIS some time ago that had may of the readers tearing up over. A DD had lost her tooth while they were sailing, and the DW happened to mention it to the stateroom host/hostess simply as a topic of conversation telling him/her that her DD was just so excited the tooth fairy was going to visit her that night. When they got back from dinner, there was a trail of shimmery pixie dust that led from the veranda door to the bed and nightstand. There was a signed picture of Tinkerbell for the DD sitting on the bed along with something else (I don't remember what though). Anyways, that was incredibly special and absolutely unprovoked! That's the best pixie dust one can get!

That would be very special indeed!!

For now anyway , Please include me wife Helen as she does Bikram Yoga 3 times a week here in Vegas and she expressed interest in doing Yoga on the ship ...

Thanks for the feedback on my suggestion of having all the events and excursions online for everyone to note what they are doing. Except for adding events, I’m pretty much finished as I have added all the DCL excursions that I could locate, and also created events for each port for 'Doing my own thing' and 'Staying on the ship', as well as the final event on October 2, 'Leaving the Magic, we're headed to ……'.

There is now an events page that has links to all the individual events in greater detail. A couple things to note:

A. Registration is closed for this event - this is also noted at signup.
B. Registration is done via the website - you don't need to contact anyone
C. Registration is done via 3rd party (in this case DCL) Please register before noting it on the website
D. Counts of people and parties signed up. In this case 6 people from 2 parties.

events_page.jpg

On the event details page, it will give a more thorough description of the event, and show all parties signed up. There is also a note field when you register, and the notes will also appear on this page. This is mostly for events such as 'Doing my own thing..', Staying on the ship..' and 'Leaving the ship, heading to...'

OK, temporarily caught up.

Only hole in our travel arrangements is getting from the airport to Le Meridien the day before. Can't use DCL because booked independently.

Has anyone pre-booked direct transport, which can cope with excessive cruise baggage, to a Barcelona hotel :confused3:confused:

We are not prebooking. We'll just hop in a taxi when we leave the airport. We've had too many issues with pre-booked transportion (losing our reservation, being late, etc.) This way when we are ready, the taxi is ready. There are always a million (maybe a slight exaggeration) licensed taxis waiting at the airport.

I know just what you mean, yesterday at the gym, I counted I used 6 different products, none of them makeup, after all the stuff I used in the shower. I was wondering if I think I need this stuff because I'm older and falling a part or because I've believe all the junk I hear on television.
