Barcelona is the only place I have ever been to that I did not feel safe. I grew up in a city with a fairly high crime rate (Frankfurt) and live in one now (Manchester), however, in both of them you are fine if you keep your smarts about you. Barcelona was different. Even staying alert at all times, I never felt safe. This is one of the reasons why we have opted to stay outside of Barcelona again. Molins de Rei is a lovely peaceful little place and even though quite close to Barcelona, it could not be any more different. Even for one night I want to have a safe haven to get back to.

We visited Naples on our Med cruise. I was not to keen on Naples, but at no point did I ever feel unsafe. It just felt chaotic, the traffic was horrendous and compared with the other ports we visited, Naples was a bit of a let down.

yeah any city is dangerous i remember new york in the 1980s

I have family in Manchester and again its ok but i would not go out at night time on a friday

i guess for disney this is the only place they can set off from but you have to wonder why they would set off from such a place it would put a dampner on any holiday that started with theft or hassle from scammers

oh well i guess we just need to be aware and careful

but from what i am hearing and reading being aware is not always as you say may not be enough

Hi All
For those of you who are concerned about forgetting something or require something extra for the rest of the journey there's a MORRISONS supermarket only a short(about 10 mins) walk from the terminal. Morrisons, for those who are not familiar is a large UK supermarket chain something like the quality and range of PUBLIX, it's just like any normal UK/US supermarket and all staff speak English. I've added a link, however the map shown on there website is incorrect if you check-out Google maps it shows the exact location with photos, it was formally known as SAFEWAY, yes it was the same as the US version until bought and re-branded as Morrisons, of course the store will be duty free, and I understand that good vodka (and Rhum) can be had for £7.00 ($10.86) per Litre.
We're going to stock up on a few things including the bulky and heavy items(mouthwash, kitchen towels etc) you want to take but would tip the scales into excess baggage charges.
Hope this helps. http://www.morrisons.co.uk/Store-fi...ibraltar&recordid=1&lat=36.12930&lon=-5.35200

Only three weeks next Saturday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cool1:
See you all then.. Jane & Dave.

Thanks very much for posting this! I have a husband who manages to pack his entire bathroom :rolleyes1 so I'm hoping this will encourage a little less packing on his part!

Please send all your spare pixie dust......
We were spending a beautiful day on the boat, lazing in the sun, boys having a few beers, girls giggling and gossiping, kids fishing until.......Belly caught Holly, yep, Holly ate the fish hook, swallowed it whole.
Lucky Mum was there with her car at the beach so we raced her straight to the 24hr Animal Hospital, Poor baby needs surgery to remove the hook which is in her stomach. So I had to leave my baby at the hospital and come home empty handed.
Waiting at home for the phone call now....waiting......waiting......waiting.....
She should be home tomorrow morning, $2000 later!

I hope Holly is OK! Sending good thoughts your way.

We finally got our cruise docs yesterday. My travel agent had them sent to her so she could include a gift with our packet (love my TA!).

A couple people mentioned just grabbing a cab from the airport to their hotel. I think we are going to do this too. I had thought of arranging the car service offered by Le Meridien, but the driver meets you outside and there is a charge for waiting in case your flight is late. :(

I have to say though, and Corinna, I think you mentioned this, I am very nervous about being in Barcelona. Just not feeling very safe. Mike and I need to learn not to look like tourists I guess.

Yesterday we went on a daytrip to Canterbury. Had a tasty lunch of pies and pasties. We then went to the Canterbury Cathedral, which is amazing.

Today we went on a daytrip to Cambridge. It's been donkey years since we've been there, and there are so many new shopping centers and stores. The highlight was an outdoor performance of Twelfth Night.

Woody

That sounds fab!

Great!

Could someone provide me a link to the navigator? The one linked on page 1 of this thread doesn't seem to have the yoga. I'm probably looking at the wrong place...

Thanks!

The new one hasn't been finalised yet! We were waiting on the tastings to be confirmed! If these haven't been from the end of the week I'm gonna get it out anyway and then update later. Don't worry it is definately in there!

Speaking of breakfast, is Topsiders open for the buffet breakfast on the last morning or do we have to go to the dining room? I seem to think we found Topsiders was open at the end of the PC in 2008 but I wasn't sure if that was due to so many B2B cruisers onboard?

Yep it should be!

I've been to that outlet a couple of times, The problem is I usually have the girls and DH with me, so I have a limited time before kids start whinging and husband starts getting antsy. So I tend to just go in the shops I know.
I will remember all the recommendations this time and branch out into some new shops, I have bought a dress from Black/White in Vegas I think. Thanks :goodvibes
...
Haven't even heard of Beall's? On the list...:thumbsup2

Bealls is great - lots of deals! They runa standard store, and then an outlet as well. My mom introduced me to them a while back after she moved to FL. I still get some stuff from them online!

:grouphug:pixiedust::grouphug:pixiedust::grouphug: Lots of hugs and pixie dust for your fur baby from us!! You must be beside yourself - I know I would be!!!

A question for those of you who have been on the Magic more recently than us (it's been 4 1/2 years!). We were accustomed to the Disney process of hauling all of our carry-ons (carry-offs?) to breakfast with us on the final morning. Then we sailed on Holland America and Carnival and found we could leave everything in the stateroom until after breakfast and then go gather them. Is Disney still making you take everything with you? Seemed like quite a tripping hazard as families piled all of their belongings in every open space in the dining room.

1. Is anyone registered for event? / Sorted by: Yes-No (number of registrations does not matter, simple yes or no)
2. Date / Sorted by: Oldest-Newest
3. Time / Sorted by: Oldest-Newest
4. Event Name / Sorted by: A-Z

The tastings are messing things up a bit as they do not have dates, so they sort at the top.

Should I be worried that I've updated my info on the stateroom information but its not showing on the EVENTS page?

I have been thinking about DVC, but not sure. I plan to move to FL in 5 years (calling it my 1st retirement - I will only be 40). I need to be happier, I love SF, but I can't just get away on the weekend to go to WDW (sorry WDW fan more than DL), plus living 3000 miles away from family and friends from school is getting harder as I am getting older and so are they. I moved out here with my boyfriend at the time (thought he was the one - only to find out 10 years later he did not think the same) and my goals in life were a bit messed up, I felt I needed to prove to others that I could make it on my own and be successful. I look back now and don't really keep in touch with any of those people I felt the need to impress back when I left high school and college. So time to make me happy. (Plus still not loving earthquakes - I will take a hurricane any day - they can somewhat predict those.) So the plan is to move, buy a house (would love Celebration, but will probably try to find something near by 2 cousins that live in FL - right behind the MK), get an annual pass and enjoy life. Getting a job without a ridiculous commute will be the challenge.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend.

Definitely do what you need to do to be happy. We don't know how much time we have on this earth and should not waste any of it. Go for it - you did when going to SF which even though it did not work out in the end I'm sure you don't regret your decision at that time. Now, it's time to move on.

We are not prebooking. We'll just hop in a taxi when we leave the airport. We've had too many issues with pre-booked transportion (losing our reservation, being late, etc.) This way when we are ready, the taxi is ready. There are always a million (maybe a slight exaggeration) licensed taxis waiting at the airport.

Rene

I actually contacted a company (from a source here on the DIS) but they informed me that they had nothing available and that I should just take the taxis outside the airport. Apparently, three people was not worth pre-arranging.

None of the models in the ad need a miraclesuit.

It always amazes me that they use plus size models that wear a size 14 (here in the states). I would seriously love to wear a size 14!!! AND I wouldn't consider myself plus size at that point!!

Oi, That is scary! The swimsuit try on, at least it's better at home than at some swimwear shops with flimsy curtains in the change room and a 15 year old shop assistant with a tiny waist, great tan and perky ****s! :rotfl:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: SO TRUE!!!!

well friend of mine went to gridaltar and he said it was like a british high street without tax so yeah yipee

from my research

Many of the big British High Street names are here such as Marks & Spencer, Morrison's Superstore, BHS, Mothercare, Evans and Dorothy Perkins, amongst others. They follow british hours of shopping 9-5 instead of spannish though i think saturdays they close in the afternoon

from what i hear its like being at home in the UK

just be warned

British pounds can be used without any problem although Gibraltar has its own pound which is not in return, recognised in the UK. A lot of the stores will also accept Euros, even some will take US dollars but the exchange rate may not be the best

Also for M&S at least you can definately take stuff back in the UK that you buy in there if you find it doesn't fit. My mum didn't have time to try a top on last time so got it and took it back in the UK when she got home and found it was too big!

Makes me proud that you enjoyed Germany, and you listed lots of places in Bavaria... :thumbsup2 And Austria of course.

I have a tip... Next time you visit, come to see my hometown: REGENSBURG.
Maybe not that famous, but not that far from Munich. You won't regret!

Our son, Stephen - who is cruising with us, would love to tour Germany. Since he starts HS next year, maybe we will do it for his HS graduation... I may have to hit you up for info! He is a history buff, and Germany has always been of interest to him.

Good Morning to all that travels West. On our last TA trip they never had football on the lounge TV. Is this something they don’t show or was my timing just off?

TA2

GO Pats

Awespme picture!
last September there was lots of football on! They had college and pro on - and I think that we watched Monday Night Football at the pool!

Gibraltar is a VAT free jurisdiction.

WOOHOOO!!!!!! That cuts out all the thought... I can get a couple bottles of wine from Spain, and leave the rest to Gibraltar... I may even have to take back my VAT rant on my blog... That was a doozie!

Anyone know if Morrisons takes Euros? Trying to plan out how to spend what I have... (Listen for the thud... Yes, that was DH falling off his chair... me making yet another plan to spend money... :rotfl: )

So, with all this talk about being sold out, I thought I would try again on the DCL site to see if there is anything available. This time they did show CAT 11 and some oceanview (I didn't check the category available here).

Anyway, after booking the first day available for silver people back in October 2008 (in a CAT 11) I have found that after paying the fuel surcharge (and of course not getting it refunded), after two years - I have saved a total of $10.50 by booking early!!!! :thumbsup2

Bonus! That's like 1.75 Drinks of the Day. :woohoo:
