For those of you who read Laura's report on the Aerobus, are you considering changing your plans from a taxi to Praktik Rambla to the Aerobus instead? At 5.05 euro pp that's a heck of a lot less than a $50 euro taxi ride (for 2 of us). Marc's not too hot on it as we arrive at 9:30 on Wednesday evening, but.....(I'm getting real cheap in my old age).

Just FYI. 9:30 is not late to come in. Busses run 5:30 am to 12:30 am. Very easy to spot. And while it might, repeat might seem like a cattle call, we only wait <5 min to go thru line which included buying tickets to boarding. I was very scared but turned out so much easier. Only a 20 min from airport to Pl Catalunya and that included stops. BTW, it's 10:15 pm and we r just getting ready to go eat dinner. Gotta love the nightlife in Barcelona. Also, taxis are the size of a small sedan almost the size of a Toyota matrix. Some were hatchback some weren't. And price was per taxi not pp. Hope it helps and really with my gutter Spanish most everyone is more than happy to help.

Oh yeah. Almost everyone smokes over here but it's usually outside. Inside is good

DONT FORGET YOUR WASHCLOTHS!!!

Gotta run oh and we use the new terminal to come through customs was a breeze in and out in 2/3 min.

Hola Amigos!

Estamos en Barcelona! :woohoo: a long, tiring couple of days. On cell phone. Keyboards sucks so try to forgive autocorrect it's usually not nice to me.

Anyway, reason for my post: for those sweating transportation problems. ITS SUPEREASY, I mean supereasy to grab a taxi to the port. Taxi signs are everywhere. Follow them down and hop a taxi if your coming in the day of. Approximate cost: $20-30 euros and extra for extra or big luggage.

Also, FYI, the first stop on the Aerobus route is Pl Espanya, where the Magic Fountains are. You will know it by the big, red arched. At night u will proceed up thru the arches if walking or get dropped off and the big fountain 1/2 up the hill is the spot. Very pretty during the day

Ok fingers tiring. If u have any questions FB is easier to get onto. U can ask there

Oh yeah. We r safe, arrived safe and my lost baggage was awaiting us when we finally got here

Safe travels my friends.:teeth:

Hi Laura .... wonderful news that you arrived safely after your traumatic beginning! Thanks for the heads up on the aerobus ... we will definitely be taking that option.

We are taking the aerobus to the Praktik Rambla ... should be straightforward !

I would be very happy to do a personal trade; better for both parties! It wouldn't be much, as I only need pounds for Gibraltar and I pre-paid for the SkyWalk Combo.

I am happy to bring a few ££££ for you .... I still owe you for the House of Blues voucher remember .. if you like I can pay you in £££ instead of $$$

Has anyone changed money on the cruise ship before? Do they have a service fee and such? I wonder if a personal exchange would have a more favourable rate for both parties?

For example, I just had a quick look at some online sites (Marks & Spencer in the UK, Travelex.com in the US)

M&S will give me $1.48 for £1
Travelex wants $1.70 for £1

The Currency App on iPhone shows the rate of $1.54 for £1.

We probably could come up with a better exchange rate as I think the places that do it charge a fee and that is why we are seeing different rates.

I would be very happy to do a personal trade; better for both parties! It wouldn't be much, as I only need pounds for Gibraltar and I pre-paid for the SkyWalk Combo.

Maybe we should put this in the navigator.

Have dollars, need pounds.

Have pounds, need dollars.

Etc.

But, I would only want the monetary pounds, not the kind that show up on the scale!!

Someone many pages (and probably parts) back in this thread gave a really good tip about how to buy a gift certificate or onboard credit for the cruise on the Disney Visa to get 0% interest for 6 months.

if I didn't pay for the cruise on the card?

Getting really excited, but still SOOO not ready. Trying to kick into gear!

Thanks!

You can add OBC and prepay your gratuities in advance, and I believe it still comes through as a DCL transaction that qualifies it for 0% interest. I've done it with grautities and it's worked. Haven't tried it yet for additional OBC.

Ok, no pools? But the splash zone is good too!
BUT... I thought one of the Mickey ears is for not-potty-trained little ones?

The toddler spash area was added during the 2008 Magic drydock (and 2007 Wonder drydock) and at that time they converted the one mickey pool ear that been a splash area back into a swimming area for the kids. The splash area is quite nice with different water fountains that squirt up and some that squirt down, and its all coated with a relatively non-slip surface that is much safer than the Mickey ear was.

Here's a picture I found out on Photobucket (since I don't have any splash pictures loaded.)

Top of the Rock to St. Michael's Cave: 900 meters ~ just over 1/2 mile
St. Michael's Cave to Apes' Den: 750 meters ~ just under 1/2 mile
Apes' Den to Great Siege Tunnels: 1500 meters ~ just under 1 mile
Great Siege Tunnels to Moorish Castle (Tower of Homage): 600 meters ~ just over 1/3 mile

Most of it is down hill, since the walking starts at the top! From the Moorish Castle, it's an easy walk into town.

Thank you!

So DH says to me this evening - we must get organised for this vacation :lmao: :rotfl2::lmao: Yes dear we must ;)

:lmao: Brilliant Julie!:thumbsup2

I woke up this morning all ready to go into work, excited about the day and all. Then I got sick. :( This is twice in one week that I've had a stomach bug...I'm not liking it at all. I can't afford all of this down time right now!!!! :(

I had a few crackers and some ginger ale and now I'm back off to bed...

Poor Amy! I feel for you as I've been suffering too all week....lets hope it all goes away soon

Yes - we`ll try the Aerobus, thanks to Laura`s report. I`ve been studying the maps and it seems straight forward.
I`ve always been cheap by the way, its not just happened in old age!

I love your story!! John said to tell you our story about people with excess luggage. We were checking into the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando and the couple next to us had nearly as much luggage!! All were matching Louis Vuitton including golf bags. They were very loudly dressed in bright yellow matching outfits and wore tons of gold jewelry!! No Chanel or St John for those two!!

As an aside, I always wore St John in the 1980's until the prices became sky high.

That is funny - you can buy anything but good taste.

I wore St John too - until my thighs made wearing St John knits a sin. Val

According to the ferry booking agent, the cruise ships and the ferry share the same port. The actual address is on Waterport, which is the primary road from the port to the town.

Thanks for this. This is really helpful.

Can't get any shapewear, and I went to get my 'formal' dress lifted on the shoulders to be told the seamstress is on holiday and it would be 2 weeks. Anyway she will do it the morning she returns to work and it will be ready the afternoon before we leave. Why do i leave things to the last minute? One reason was finding somewhere to do it. Our normal place closed down, and the dry cleaners only do hems and the like, so it took a while to notice this place.

I hope that you get your dress back in time.

Connie's son is also poorly right now. He has been for a good week or so, with a sinus infection. She said on FB yesterday that his is still sick and has some more antibiotics and hopes he is well by Tuesday when they fly. So do we Connie!! That might be a painful flight for him if he still has sinus problems.:sad2:

I hope that Patrick is better in time for their flight.

When you are almost 60, you will kill to be as we call it in America, carded!! My sister was going gray at 25 so I know what you mean. My hair didn't go white until I was in my late 40's. Now I am completely white in the front and have to add dark highlights to my blonde hair to give it definition.

I started to get significantly gray at 14. Now I am about 80 to 90 percent gray and I am still only 35.

Noel, or anyone else who might know - Regarding the Skywalk tour in Gilbraltar, did you buy the return ticket or the single? How long of a walk is it back down the rock? Are the other attractions on the way down? As always, thanks for your help. Val

We are doing the Skysurf combo and will get the return for the cable car. It only ends up being EUR1.50 more. We just want to go up and take a few photos (and maybe see a monkey or two) and then do our dolphin tour.

Hi all,

Lauren and I leave for London on Monday!! :cool1: Looks like it will be raining during our entire stay. Can any of you Londoners and UK residents help me with a little cloud clearing? Thanks in advance!! :thumbsup2

If it does rain, we are not going to let it ruin our visit!!

Daniel

I hope that the weather is not too bad for you and that you will have a wonderful time.

Laura is still at JFK....she says it is crazy there with the weather coming in. They keep getting bumped and may look at flying into Madrid and take the train to Barcelona. Will post as I know more......

What a complete nightmare.

Well, just as I thought we had our FE gifts sorted, Becky has just made something really cute!:cutie: So I'm commissioning her to make another 15 for my FE friends!:thumbsup2:woohoo:

I am hoping that you will post photos after the cruise.

Just did a check of available categories and found a slew of cabins available.

Cat 12, 11, 8 and 7 are available but GTY
Cat 10 had 8 cabins to choose from, all on deck 1
Cat 9 had 3 cabins to choose from, all on deck 2

Don't have time now, but might make another call later today to try and move my cabin. They probably won't be able to since cat 11s are GTY, but hey, its worth a shot at least for the amusement factor to see what answer I would get as to why they couldn't move me.

Good luck if you decide to make the call.

Why do you have to be so orginized?:worship:

I have always been pretty organized. There are a couple more things that I could cross off today and there will be even more tomorrow/

Thanks for keeping us posted. We heard of this at work and to be honest, it did not think in that this is where Paula is until I came on here.

Just had a letter from Disney telling us that we need to bring with us the ESTA application response as a record of our application number and to confirm our status.

No problem with that but the application response we have from ESTA only has the application number on it & the expiration date on it, but no details about who it relates to.

Is that OK ?

The application response also states that you are not required to present a copy of your authorization in order to travel & therefore why is Disney asking for it.?

We got the same letter. I had just copied the reference numbers, but now have gone back to print out the confirmation that shows the number and the validity. This just has to be good enough.

I thought they may ask for that. I did our Esta`s a couple of months ago but only had the numbers. DH re did them a couple of days ago and printed out the confirmation page with all our details on it.
You can redo them, in fact they are starting to charge $14 each from the 8th.
I just didn`t want to have something else to worry about.

I am actually surprised that it lets you do this. I don't deal with ESTAs, but with ETAs (the Australian equivalent) and it won't let you process another one of those until the previous one has expired.

well i posted last night the bank had taken out a Standing Order that they should not well its all sorted and i did not get any charges

now back to packing

clothes have been altered SO THIS WEEKEND I CAN DO FINAL PACKING !!!

13 days then my holiday begins !!!
jason

I am glad that you get it all sorted.

Nothing available for Laura to get to Barcelona.....looking at maybe Valencia.....stay tuned :surfweb:

More bad news

Yes - but I did wonder if they would have the facility to do that at the port in Barcelona?
When we check in for a flight here in the UK it shows we have filled in the Esta. I read the fines for a carrier are very steep if the passengers don`t have the right documents.
Corinna will know for sure.

Well, as I said, ESTAs are not my area of expertise as my airline does not fly from Europe to the USA. I know that DCL are a participating carrier so they should have a way to check that an ESTA is in place. I know we have a very quick entry that we use to check ETAs.

As for fines for boarding somebody who does not have the correct documents in place, for airlines this is around $6000. I assume it is very much the same for cruise ships.

They are on and in first class!!!!!!!

That is wonderful news.

Hello Everyone, I am FashionistaGirl, HoagiePie's daughter. I finally was able to get accepted into the boards!! Yeah:banana::banana::banana:

Hi Abby, I am glad that you managed to get this sorted and welcome to the thread.

Thanks all for your concern, prayers and pixie dust!

We actually live in Christchurch so are right in the middle of it, we are considering ourselves terribly fortunate that we have no damage other than some broken items in the kitchen - mugs, casserole dishes etc.

Other parts of the city are not so lucky, I have two friends with their chimney's now in their homes. Robert's Mum has her neighbors chimney on her lawn - it just missed the house.

We are still having massive aftershocks and tremors nearly 8 hours later and this could go on for days if not weeks.

A state of emergency has been declared and the city is off limits as many buildings are damaged majorly. I think the airport is still closed but they are hoping to open it soon. They might have to evacuate some neighbourhoods soon though so its not over yet.

Luckily with it happening at 4.30am, there were few people out and about - it would have been much worse if it happened 12 hours earlier when people were in the city on a Friday afternoon!

On the bright side, its a gorgeous day and we have power to our home - much of the city is still without. Water could be an issue in the next few days though!

I am glad that you are all safe.

Update: the specific location of the ferry dock is on the north side of the coach park. See my map from a couple of posts back.

Thanks again. This has really helped with our decision. Skysurf package it is.

Thanks. Now, just need to grab some pence on board, as I heard the post office won't take Euros. Also, I have to figure out where 104 Main Street is, unless you can direct me there!

I am sure that people from the UK can help you out.

At DCL that is... Watchout, major vent ahead... Feel free to press the page down key now...

How many months ago did we reach out to them for tastings? 4. What was I told? Not a problem, send me the lists in late July. What happens? I send the lists only to learn that my contact is on vacation for 2 weeks!
Now here we are, 11 days until we fly out and I still have nothing confirmed. DCL stateside says the ship is working on it. I still have nothing more than what I shared about not being able to fill the standard DCL seminars wtih DIS people... So, I am now writing to DCL DAILY! and what did I learn today? That my main contact is sailing on the last MED trip - so she is going to be on the ship!! And we still have nothing.

So, today I wrote her back and asked if this was going to happen and the reply was that the ship has been notified and is tryingto fit us in. So, I am reaching out to the concierge on Tuesday to see if she can help me out.

I did finally tell them that we are a highly organized and motivated group of experienced DCL passengers. I shared the web site (which they thought was great!) and I also mentioned that I was preparred to board and go directly to GS with my lists and take every available ticket there was for each event we were interested in, and get everyones tickets.

I mean, really? Seriously? I played by their rules and am finding out that it really didn't matter... UUGH! Hope to post something more positive on Tuesday... I am not giving up, just letting you all know where we are with the tasting seminars.

Come on DCL - get your act together!!!

I am so sorry that they are giving you the run around. Thanks so much for trying to sort this out. I really appreciate it.

Glad you are ok Paula.

Talking about houses shaking we had a bit of that here last night.

The UPS plane that crashed in dubai last night went down about 800m from our house. It want straight over the top of our place about 5 seconds before impact.

we heard it but didn't see it - however many other families around us also saw it and saw the flash of the impact. What makes that even worse is we are a compound of airline staff and most of the kids who saw it have dads who are pilots so it has really unnerved them.

It was so lucky that it was a cargo plane so only two lives were lost and that it was a UPS plane with well trained pilots and well maintained equipment so they were able to maintain control long enough to get past our houses and crash into the desert. If they had gone down just five seconds earlier then it would of been a very different outcome.

The pilots were heros to be able to do that. Our thoughts are with their families. R.I.P.

OMG, I had not realized that it was so close to residential areas. The update we had on our system this morning said that the plane crashed in the middle of the desert. I am glad that you are all OK. Is Chris at home at the moment? I agree that those pilots are absolute heros and they and their families are in my thought and prayers.

Argghhhh :scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:
This packing thing is just not happening for me, I have everything I NEED out, and it just won't fit, It's not the space, It's the weight! I have my luggage scales and my kitchen scales in the spare room trying to make it work!
I have 5kg's of just Tim Tams, then 8kg's of Bella's sweet bag's, plus who know how much in Caramello Koala's for the candy swap, FE's and bags and bags of extra's for friends and CM's!!! Add to that my FE's and random gifts, Disney pins, kids activities, etc.....BUT.....The good news is most of that stuff won't be my problem a couple of days after we board the ship......it will be yours, Bahahahahaha, most of it is FE's and gifts, Bahahahahah!!!!
I don't have any room for clothes, what's that old saying? Less is more, well that is going to be my motto when dressing everyday. It's all worth it so I get to shop when we get to America!!! YAY!!!

That sounds like a lot of stuff. Still, I need to be very quiet. I shipped 20kg of magnets, FE gifts, Secret Mickey gifts and jewellery making tools yesterday.

We are sleeping in our living room tonight - we have setup the couches near the table for safety and are having a "sleep over" - dogs included. Its just simply too unnerving to be even thinking about going to bed. There is comfort in sitting up with a blanket instead.

We are having lots of after shocks and have had more than 20 today that have been over 4 on the richter scale. Its quite simply terrifying and we are all a bunch of nervous wrecks.

The after shocks are varying from gentle swaying which you can barely feel to jolts like someone has just picked up the house and dropped it - its surprisingly noisy too and sometimes you just hear or feel tremors.

I hope that this aftershocks will stop very soon. This must be so scary for you.

OK so were dog sitting this weekend for my sister so can't do any packing. So instead I got an email from Crocs UK mentioning a sale! I just spent £30 buying 2 more pairs of flip flops one of which is identicle to the pair I have but means if mine gets damaged while Im away I have a pair for when I get back. Oh well! Hope they arrive in time! It said 7-10 days! Fingers crossed!

Thanks for this. I see a little trip to the Croc shop in Manchester coming up tomorrow. I could do with some flip flops.

Ok, no pools? But the splash zone is good too!
BUT... I thought one of the Mickey ears is for not-potty-trained little ones?

When we first cruised in 2008, one of the ears was a splash zone, but the ship went into dry dock straight after and they installed this very neat dedicated splash area.

I have a question that I don't think has been addressed here: does anyone know if DCL is going to have special pins for this sailing? When we were on the EBTA, they had a set of pins that featured the Canal and each port.

When we did our Med cruise they had one pin on sale for the EBTA. There were also two pins for the Med cruise. I was hoping for one per port.

Things are starting to come together here. My package was picked up by the courier service yesterday morning and had already left the depot again within a couple of hours of getting there and is now on its way to Barcelona. I will spend the next few days tracking this until it has safely arrived in Barcelona. In the end, the package was 20kg. I sent most of my magnets, Fish Extender gifts for 25, the jewellery making tools and my Secret Mickey gifts. I am glad that I decided to send this to the ship. There is no way I could have put this in my luggage and it would not have been much fun to carry an extra 20kg on public transport across Barcelona.

The custom components for my last Fish Extender gifts have arrived as well. This was super quick. They took less than 48 hours to get from the Netherlands to here. They look absolutely wonderful and I can’t wait to get my creative juices flowing. So I will get those assembled tomorrow. Unfortunately not everything has arrived for a little bit of Pixie Dust that I intend to spread. With a bit of luck, everything will be here by Monday and then I can spend an evening or to getting this sorted out.

I received a PM from somebody that I cruised with last October. She is going to do the EBTA next year and has asked for a report about our cruise. She also mentioned that we have a wonderful group here. This has really brought home how privileged I have been to share the best part of two years with you and even luckier that soon I will be able to share two amazing weeks with all of you. I honestly feel closer to this group than I do to my own family.

Calling all jewellery making people

As the cruise is drawing closer and I am in the process of tying up some loose ends. Could you please send me a PM with the following information:

When you are leaving for your vacation?

Are you bringing your own tools and if so which tools are you bringing?

I am hoping to finalize all the details over the weekend and then I post an update on my info post on this thread and on thread 10. I will also send everybody involved in this a PM.

Corinna

That is funny - you can buy anything but good taste.

I wore St John too - until my thighs made wearing St John knits a sin. Val

I still have loads of St John outfits that I wear for special occasions. What I like most about them for travel in the winter is that they do not wrinkle. Another plus is you can easily hand wash them with Woolite and they dry pretty quickly. I think they are way too heavy for summer wear however.

What I use to especially like about St John dresses is that you could take off the jackets and they were often backless for evening wear. They were dressy for day and could be made sexy at night with the right jewelry and accessories.

Now they have become so pricey that I don't even look at them at Nordstrom unless there is a big sale.

We are all so busy packing and posting we didn't even notice that Steffi (FrauP) should have got a pirate for the 3,000 post!!

Oh I'm sorry. I so hate being sick. You have my sympathies. Take care and feel better quickly.

So sorry you are not well!! Hope you can fight this bug off quickly!!

Thank you! The ginger ale and crackers I had earlier didn't turn out too well...I just took another sip so we'll see what happens now. The worst part of all is that I'm on call at the store tomorrow! I hope this stops soon!

OK, I feel so sick but this totally made me laugh! Thanks for the laugh!

Yes right. I think for the BIG change  I wouldn't do it at the pool. But maybe for changing from swimming diapers to regular ones.

I justed wanted to know if anybody might be offended by our naked little fellow

FrauP - You need to go back and edit this post to add a Pirate picture since it's a 000 post!

I am hoping to finalize all the details over the weekend and then I post an update on my info post on this thread and on thread 10. I will also send everybody involved in this a PM.

Corinna

Corinna - I'm sending this here since my PM box is full and I don't have time to tidy it up just to send out a post. We're leaving on the 15th. I hadn't planned on bringing any tools. Did I miss it somewhere where we were supposed to?

We are all so busy packing and posting we didn't even notice that Steffi (FrauP) should have got a pirate for the 3,000 post!!

I was just posting the same thing up above. That was the first thing I checked when I saw we were over 3000 posts - wanted to see who got the Pirate.

We probably could come up with a better exchange rate as I think the places that do it charge a fee and that is why we are seeing different rates.

Maybe we should put this in the navigator.

Have dollars, need pounds.

Have pounds, need dollars.

Etc.

But, I would only want the monetary pounds, not the kind that show up on the scale!!

Sarah could this be added to the roll call on the website?

I still have loads of St John outfits that I wear for special occasions. What I like most about them for travel in the winter is that they do not wrinkle. Another plus is you can easily hand wash them with Woolite and they dry pretty quickly. I think they are way too heavy for summer wear however.

What I use to especially like about St John dresses is that you could take off the jackets and they were often backless for evening wear. They were dressy for day and could be made sexy at night with the right jewelry and accessories.

Now they have become so pricey that I don't even look at them at Nordstrom unless there is a big sale.

They have a St. Johns outlet here in Orlando and even at the outlet, they are too expensive. They never wear out though so I can still wear my St Johns little black dress. (I just have the one.) I am retired so I can't wear it to work but as you say, you can dress them up at night.

Back in the 1980's, they were about $200 or so each. I felt they were such a good buy as you could wear them for either daytime or evening. Yes, you are right, they don't wear out!!

The outfits I own and still wear are still shown on the website even today as they are classic styles.

I'm PACKED !!!!!! Except for last minute items and my purse (rather LARGE purse). So the stressing has subsided. The only thing is the tshirts. I still have not been able to get the logos to resize. My DH will be back from his 'around the world' trip on Tues so he can take care of it then. Poor thing got food poisoning in Dehli. He's in Paris now so hopefully he can enjoy the food.

Wow! Can't believe we had little or no activity in the past few hours. We were half the way down the page so I thought I'd throw in a post to wake everyone up.

I just realized when you look down at my ticker for this cruise that the nose of the Magic has gone off the edge of the background. We must be getting close!
