Hi guys! Long time no post!

We got back yesterday from camp. It was really nice at times, and totally understimulating at other times. We were assigned a cabin with one large bed and a small narrow bed, a one bedroom. It had a little kitchen and a bathroom. This is the same cabin where all the kids came to see me as the camp nurse so we had zero privacy, but it was ok. The mattresses were about 2" thick, so my back was not happy, but DH likes granite for a mattress so he was ok on his little skinny bed (little one and I shared the double). I tended to lots of scrapes, fuggly feet, blisters, splinters, headaches, tummy aches, earaches, etc. I earned our keep that week!

The big kids were enrolled in camp, proper. They slept in steamy and smelly cabins with counselors, swam in the pond, did crafts, went spelunking in the caves onsite, hiking, horseback riding, and had a great mosquito-bitten Ontario time. We are certain to return next time with a few more activities to keep DH and I amused (but I did take tig's suggestion and we bought Bananagrams on our one trip to town - we liked it a lot!).

WOW ... that camp sounds like hard work ... and you do it for fun !!!
Only kidding ... kids love that sort of thing, wish they did it over here.

Fair rant!
I've told DD Lilly that she can't even get her ears done until she's sixteen.

lol, well I must say it took only minutes to dry after swimming today :rolleyes1 I would like to stretch it out a little longer though,....;)

Yes, me too Marilyn thanks! (well afternoon coffee but you know what I mean...):rotfl2:

Oh Mrs D makes me laugh!:rotfl2:

us too!:)

Well, at least if I do wear the same thing I shall make a joke of it!!!:rotfl2:

Oh dear.......must admit my dd pierced her own eyebrow at 15 and hasn't really stopped since.....she has multiple piercings, including her septum and stretched ear plugs, plus she's just had her second tattoo....:rolleyes1

Can't say I love them (the piercings and tattoos I mean) but by now she's old enough to know her own mind. I always think it's not the worst thing in the world, she's a good, caring person and isn't into drugs etc so appearances don't really phase me....

Just warn your niece to keep it very very clean...dd hasn't had her tongue pierced but her lovely  father let her get her lip pierced at 16 and it got infected and the ring got stuck inside her lip....she had to have it surgically removed in the end...:scared1: (obviously it didn't put her off)

:littleangel:

I agree, it doesnt make her a bad person, but she already has a scar on her eyebrow where a percing went wrong, I think they grow up way way too young these days, I know I am pretty old fashioned !!! just think 14 is too young. They stretched ear thingys >> I have to force myself not to stare at them.

Today is a laundry day: really gross kids' camp laundry. Last night I scrubbed all the kids and de-grossed their feet, and we all slept in clean beds.

The kids have been put to work today with the promise of seeing Despicable Me tonight if they do good work, cheerfully. Ok, they don't have to be cheerful, just not rot our patience with endless complaining about being hard done by and it all being "unfairrrrrrrrr!"

We're really looking forward to the cruise! This morning I am also adding a couple of more items to our FEs and getting them sealed up for packing. I've made our lists, have checked them twice, and are starting the hideous practice of packing. We started a countdown chain and will get that finished and up today, hopefully.

I managed to keep on top of most of this thread via my iPhone which got slow service whilst we were away, but some service nonetheless.

Whom do we contact for linking early dining?

Whom do I contact regarding joining the Champagne Girls?

Re: Praktik Ramblas picture meet on Saturday - that works for us!

Re: Disgroup group photo - anytime should be fine as long as it goes in our mini Navigator! Will the times for all the group tastings and activities be in there too, once we get times? And the Palo tea? I'm worried I'll forget it all and won't have an internet connection to look up our thread to keep me on track.

welcome back.

I do understand, as you say 14 is very young still........and I find the ear plugs really wierd too, espceially when she sticks a pen through her ear!!!

I think I'm probably a little sensitive to these things as Becky was judged very badly by the way she dressed and looked when she was younger especially.....and I went through the same thing myself......makes me a little tetchy sometimes!:thumbsup2

What day are you flying back? We're staying in Florida until the 8th!

lol you get one more day than us then....we fly back on the 7th!:thumbsup2

Have dates been determined for the following? It's quite possible I missed it if they were announced.
  • THOSE GOING TO THE MAGIC FOUNTAIN ON THURSDAY, what time do you want to meet up to go together from Praktik Rambla (or an area in the vicinity)? The first show is at 9:30 and runs every 30 minutes. I suggest we meet at 8:30 or 8:45 for the first show because I believe we have some munchkins going with us, so the earlier the better. Additionally, most of us will still be dealing with jet lag. Thoughts?

Doh! I've missed a lot b/c I've been so busy with work and just skimming posts. I guess I completely missed the discussion about the Magic Fountain. :confused3 I don't want to invite myself :crowded: if this is a private event but if it's open to all, where are you meeting? 9:30 am/pm? I have an event scheduled in the evening but will probably be done by 9pm if this is a night event.

I also just want to say: :disrocks:
I simply can't wait to meet everyone!!!! I really think this is an amazing group of people who are working so hard to make this a trip of a lifetime!!! Thank you!!!!!! :cloud9:

Regarding the DIS photo at the Praktik Rambla, that's a brilliant idea! What does everyone think of about meeting on the Terrace Saturday morning before the bus arrives or others head off for sightseeing? The bus should arrive around 9:00. For those of you not taking the bus, is 8:30 too late for us to get together for the photo before you are off touring? We'll also know who's still in bed sleeping so the bus can get rolling on-time!

I  the idea of a group photo before we board the bus for the port! 8:30 works for us! :yay::yay::yay:

Need a slight chuckle this Sunday morning?

ZEN TEACHINGS

1. Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me for the path is narrow... In fact, just take off and leave me alone.

2. Sex is like air. It's not that important unless you aren't getting any.

3. No one is listening until you fart.

4. Always remember you're unique. Just like everyone else.

5. Never test the depth of the water with both feet.

6. If you think nobody cares whether you're alive or dead, try missing a couple of mortgage payments.

7. Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

8. If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

9. Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

10. If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably well worth it.

11. If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.

12. Some days you are the dog, some days you are the tree.

13. Don't worry; it only seems kinky the first time.

14. Good judgment comes from bad experience ... and most of that comes from bad judgment.

15. A closed mouth gathers no foot.

16. There are two excellent theories for arguing with women. Neither one works.

17. Generally speaking, you aren't learning much when your lips are moving.

18. Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

19. We are born naked, wet and hungry, and get slapped on our *** - then things just keep getting worse.

20. Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

Funny! Thanks, Marilyn! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

MMC Shirt- I vote for everyone on the same night. Just cant be the last night we have Palo and would prefer a night not at lumineres (we re linked for late seating)

The Fountain- Can we come also? I would prefer the 8:30 also. I read that the fountains are a major pick pocket area so i would prefer to do it in a group.

I've been skimming- this is the last week of classes so i after Aug 3rd im all DIS and cruise planning until classes start againg on the 25th.

Can anyone suggest how to get from the airport. We can take the Aerobus the drop is in front of our hotel but i'm concerned about losing stuff.

Ok will try to keep up but with Finals this week i wont be on again until after Aug 3. Hopefully Annette will keep up and let me know. She only has 1 Final this week i have 3:scared1: What was i thinking?

I didn't think it was private - but maybe it is private to all 136 DIS families we are cruising with!! :lmao: And this means you are IN!!! I have to agree - this is a great group and we are going to have a great trip! I am not sure how we will top this one!!

See above note on the fountain... I do believe you are in the group as well!!

We have opted to do a taxi van to our hotel. We were quoted 50 euro for the 4 of us and all of our luggage. Let me know if you want to know who we booked through.

Good luck with finals!! Sounds like you were thinking about how many Drinks of the Day should I have instead of how many classes with finals will I have... :rotfl2:

I think it is just turn up wherever is decided - not private or anything. I was also thinking there is more safety in numbers too!

I've been having great "catching up" intentions, but I'm behind again. I have been reading for 2 hours this morning and I'm still 20 something pages behind. Sigh...

A few things I've missed completely... "Champagne Girls"? I love champagne... What is it and how do I get involved...

"Villans Night"? I love Corrina's fascinator. I have no clue what villans night is though.

Would love some insight on those 2 things. Will try to read more tonight. We will never be unpacked in our new house if I don't get started today!

Thanks for the kind welcome back! My mom and I comment all the time about what a lovely bunch o' folks you guys are, really we do.

I wanted to add that we are going to the Magic Fountain in Barcelona on the Friday at the first show. We'd love to go on the Thursday but we are just getting in that day and I don't think any of us will survive a long, late night. We are planning to go to Poble Espanol on Friday evening, eat dinner near there, and then catch the fountain show. We would welcome Dis company should Friday work for anyone.

Champagne girls I believe the idea is to wear pink, tiaras and feather boas and meet up for champagne lol. I think people are going to buy a bottle to bring onboard.

As for Villians night, one night on the cruise they have the new Villians show. That night there is a masque ball in the evening so people are thinking of wearing like villians clothes or at least black/purple etc
